Oldboy Remake - Spike Lee directs Josh Brolin

Recommended Posts

It looks pretty faithful, with a few new stylistic flourishes. I don't suppose I'd mind that much if all new films were Oldboy instead of Lindelof penned special effects non-events.

One major thing I saw in that trailer and I'm gonna post massive Oldboy spoilers...

He saw his child on TV in the present (and tied up)... Doesn't that make the whole incest twist now out of the game? I suppose it could just be an actor pretending to be his daughter which makes it less obvious but it still makes the story less elegant and more contrived.

Maybe it's not going to include that twist. Which would make it even more pointless.

It'll be a fake out.

He'll be presented with the footage of his "daughter", go on his quest for revenge, hook up with and sleep with the Olsen girl and then at the end the twist will be that the daughter is an actress and Olsen is the daughter.

Odd, after all the suggestions that this would be a different interpretation of the source material, and quite different from the Korean version, half the shots in that trailer are just inferior versions of shots in the original version. Odd approach to take for a remake.

Brolin doesn't look intensely mad enough to me.

He did, though. In the trailer he has a beard while in the prison.

Then I suggest that the poster is misleading.

I've also realised that this is one of the few trailers that I can justify watching without it ruining the plot...

The original manga of Oldboy didn't contain the famous twist from the Korean movie version.

Ah ok, I thought the twist was one of the best things about it and tied the story up really nicely.
