I think because of the cunty persona people have always slept a bit on how good McGregor is and how hard he works at the fighting - he's an utter shite but I do believe he's very smart and knows that all the other business is still driven somewhat by his fighting 'brand'.

I'm not saying he's a GOAT or anything, but he's very very good and will give most people a good tear up, he's also game as they come and surprisingly gracious in defeat.

I don't think anyone slept on Conor's talent. If anything, they overestimated what he was capable of.

He has great hands, great movement, and great psychological warfare. That is it. He belongs nowhere near a GOAT conversation.

Oh man, Max pulled me back in last week, and I suppose I've got to watch this one now. Dustin is absolutely a more rounded fighter, but Conor has beaten fighters who are better on paper numerous times. It won't happen, but I'd love Conor to get wrecked, and usher in space for a new generation of stars to demand fair pay.

Main event spoilers

Spoiler

I had punts on Dustin outright and a Dustin finish in rounds 2/3/4, so that was nice. That it went down that way wasn’t a big surprise to me, considering how little cage time Conor has had, and how much of a beast Dustin is.

Where does Conor go from here? In his post-fight he talked about being active, but I don’t believe it. I don’t think the desire is there deep down to slug it in the LW shark tank. He’s made his millions, he has a young family and it’s going to become more difficult to motivate himself to keep training for achievements he’s already hit.

I think we maybe see one more, where depending on how that shapes up, he goes for the Nate trilogy. I can see him wanting to retire on that fight (assuming he won).

I agree with you.

Spoiler

It’s probably going to be “event” fights from now on - Diaz, maybe something in boxing - but I do agree that he’s done as a real contender.

That said, I thought Conor did well in the first. Didn’t take damage when taken down, got back up and the back and forth grappling looked composed.

I thought he looked tired after it though and for someone who said other fighters were flat footed in the past, there was very little spring in his step and he ate the calf kicks.

Great win for Poirier- I hope he gets to squeeze all the juice from this win.

Chandler looked very good too. If Khabib stays retired, the coming months in LW could be a lot of fun.

For better or worse, there are very few fighters where I don't blink when I watch, and MacGregor is one of them.

Spoiler

Very interesting fight while it lasted. Conor totally neutralised Dustin's sweet spot landing bombs against the cage... until he didn't. The leg kicks were very clever, and incredibly effective.

Also, we shouldn't really overstate the value of a win over a fighter who not only fights rarely, but also doesn't evolve his game anymore. His rangey punching was still as stunning and precise as ever, and until halfway through the 2nd he was touching Dustin's chin at will.

I look forward to a series of entertaining, if irrelevant exhibitions from MacGregor over the next few years.

Well done to Chandler for not falling victim to the Hype curse. Excellent debut.

Didn’t watch because of BT’s shameless PPV, but rarely been happier to be completely wrong about a fight.

Think the repeat is on free later in the week. Looking forward to watching the main card, given there were four finishes and a JoJo win.

Chandler/Poirier v Oliveira for the belt, (interim or full). Ferguson v Conor for a laugh. The UFC need to sort of Khabib and the belt, Khabib says he's done so he's done until otherwise. Considering how fast the ufc stripped folk like Ferguson, it needs to be sorted asap.

Psyched for JoJo :kub: she looked very solid and aggressive, Eue did very little of note. DC mentionned it but im glad judges are not putting emphasis on cage pushing and takedowns where theres no progress or damage

Conor has to be steaming. He obviously so badly wants that rematch as he seems to genuinely believe he’s always a tiny mistake or moment from winning (which to be fair is often in MMA) but that chance to avenge the Khabib loss is long gone now unless Khabib fancies some easy money.

He’ll have to make peace with that fact and that won’t be easy for him I don’t think.

Yeah i was surprised they mentioned it also. Previously they might have said Strikeforce or Pride Champ which the UFC owned but cannot recall a Bellator or OneFC acknowledgment.

Conors stopping and starting his career can only be a hindrince when mma moves so quickly and just for cage sharpness.

I really liked their new camera stuff. Very effective, very cool. Nice production value.

Yeah I noticed that too. Looked 8k.

Usman.. I don't know why i didn't rate him too much before. He dismantled Burns with that piston of a jab, christ he looked sharp. Burns looked a problem in round 1 but Usman just stepped it up.

His respobse to being rocked was great, waited consilidated and then asserted himself with that brutal jab.

The other side of that is Birns going to his pack rather than pressing forward was wrong to me. But hes the toptier fighter so...
