Sound the interim title klaxon!

Whittaker vs Romero at 213. Bisping holding out for GSP it would seem, using the knee surgery recovery as an excuse. Worked out perfectly for the latter two, wouldn't surprise me if they had coordinated the whole thing.

Garbrandt/TJ also officially off but that's been common knowledge for ages.

They're now going for Dillashaw/Johnson in August, apparently! I hope DJ messes him up, takes the record and then the UFC start marketing him aggressively. Would be a perfect time to head up to BW and cement his HoF status too. Although he's probably already got it.

So they're going to have a standard MW title fight after an interim fight has taken place? How the fuck do you do that without making the GSP fight non-title?

Ah well, at least Romero or Whittaker is gonna get paid.

Rogan said it on his podcast on a plane after the recent PPV that the UFC aren't respecting the hierarchy of the championship belt enough at the moment - I think what they are trying to do is that old crap boxing thing of having the main title holder then some rubbish 'intercontinental' lower grade belt - but they aren't formalizing any of it and you just end up with the weird possibility @schmojo mentions where the interim belt holder doesn't get the next fight against the champ solely for PPV reasons.

Gutted about TJ/Cody being officially off but the potential of DJ/TJ match is very exciting.

Whittaker v Romero should be pretty interesting to even if it doesnt make much sense in the grand hierarchy of champions and challengers.

I like Whittaker, he's a game and wily slugger, but I think Romero should outclass him.

To me, Whittaker is like latter-day Lawler: no great demonstration of a varied skillset, but cracking to watch and can find the chins of more well-rounded fighters.

It's a stupid idea. When GSP won the interim belt (first guy I think?) he basically said it was a nice door stop but wanted the real belt. Same with Mir (just gave it to his mate) and Carwin etc.

If even the guys who win these belts don't respect them how can they promote the interim belt like it means something. It's utterly ridiculous.

Interesting fight on sunday, 4pm prelims in the UK, not sure whose gonna win but i think Gustaffson has more tools and a bettet chance to be champ at this point.

I hardly know anyone on the undercard, Chris Camozzi and Nick Hein and then....

Big fan of both Gus and Glover. I think Glover has the better chance of beating DC as he's stronger so I'd like to see him win and get a title shot again - basically the only reason he wasn't in the UFC competing years ago is due to visa issues. Crazy really, he would have definitely held the belt during that era.

Gus needs more fights full stop. Not against top contenders just against mid level guys so he can build himself back up. The UFC really did throw him to the wolves in terms of matchups. Get him on a decent winning streak again and then see about another title shot.

Yeah its a shame that we couldnt see Glover when he was a bit younger as you say because of beauracracy bullshit. I recall Rogan said it was hard for him to get fights as people kept avoiding him which didnt help aswell.

Its been longer than i thought since his last fight and looking at it coldly his record isnt great the last few years for a top contender, even though i thought he won both against Jones and DC.

Similarly like both Gus and Glover, so just hoping for a decent fight in that one. Oezedemir v Cirkumov could be a cracker, and keen to see how Darren Till does after injury.

Blagged tickets through work, so hoping it's a card like London: average on paper but delivers on the night!

Roy Nelson's gone to Bellator.

I'm not his biggest fan, and there really wasn't anywhere for him to go in the UFC, but it's another known name. I really hope Bellator is managing to make money at the moment, and isn't just spending to speculate on the future.

funny one Roy Nelson - he was never getting near the belts, was in the wrong division, lost as many as he won but was a proper fan favourite and I never thought about hitting ffwd or skipping a fight of his, seemed a down to earth bloke too.

him leaving doesn't really impact the overall HW division but somehow makes the UFC feel a tiny bit 'less'

He lost me on the occasions when he overstated his value in spats with Dana, kicked Big John, and stopped using any of his excellent BJJ.

That said, he was a unique figure, and almost certainly a draw for a section of fans.

Roy could have been a contender at 205lbs or 185lbs. An iron chin like that at the lower weight classes? he'd have been unstoppable.

His lack of discipline cost him but he's still an ultra entertaining fighter. These are all great signings by Bellator. Coker is a pro.

Just been watching some TUF - TJ vs Garbrandt.

I really can't stand Cody. Poser with shit tattoos. Exactly what I hate about 'new gen' mma.

When Roy was coaching on TUF against Carwin and theyvhad to run 400m was awful. Shane ran almost olympic pace and Roy couldnt even get halfway round and thats fucking embarrassing, for anyone let alone a pro fighter. Completely agree about the 185lb or even 205lb divison being easy meat for Roy bar the top few contenders if he'd had the foresight and mentality to achieve it.

I can't stand Cody. All this tough guy shit is really seems to boil down to a perceived sense of loyalty to TAM with TJ being an easy way to demonstrate that.

How do you guys see the fight going? I think TJ's got way more going on as far as weapons in his arsenal but Garbrandt's got that big power.... Hope TJ tags him up.

I think Garbrandt probably wins but given how much of a tit he is I'll be rooting for TJ.

Has anyone seen this btw?

A bodybuilder has said he'll turn up at team alpha and street fight Cody ha.

Jesus, that escalated pretty quick, i wonder if it will actually be streamed? Thatd be rad, but once a figjter gets to the level Cody is you'd be past ywitter wars. Remember when the policeman (Shawn Gannon iirc) fought and beat up some guy(kimbo?) in a basement? Then he got a ufc fight of the back of it and got smashed.

Never mind the main event what about that Volkan KO! did that tiny punch really destroy Misha that quick? That's some bruce lee level stuff if it did. I thought from the other angle I'd see an uppercut or something.

Shawn Gannon is an internet rabbit hole. Thanks!

Stellar performance by Gustafsson. Atmosphere was electric and he delivered. Enjoyable night, Marcin Held's KO was brutal, and the Volkan finish was a stunner; lots of WTF? reactions.

Oh, and I nerded out.

For TV in the Middle East; was only expecting good seats but they kept throwing more things my way. Ended up sat behind Jimi Manuwa; he's an absolute tank. Met Dan Hardy afterwards on the bus out the arena too, he was an absolute gent. Was a crazy night caught between being professional and being a bimbling geek. Loved it.
