apparently Overeem was sick and in hospital with food poisoning in days right up to the fight, Dana White said he refused to pull out and he'd been certain the fight was getting cancelled.

 

very impressive to do that to Hunt if you've been taken out with food poisoning - that shit lays you very low

loved Dana White before the event telling fighters to stop moaning about money fights when they aren't the money fight - he even specifically called out Woodley on it.

 

I thought Cruz was excellent, really technical and breaking things down - I've no doubt he's Rogan's long term replacement (maybe even short term). Anik though has to go, he's just horrible.

That was a terrible main event. Judges got it wrong as well but nonetheless it was absolutely rubbish. I liked some of the other fights before but unfortunately Woodley and Thompson concocted a stinker for the ages.

Just back from my first "submission wrestling" tourney and i got beat in my match. Was pretty disappointed but it was wrestling with a few subs not BJJ so no guard and no being on your back etc so its not my area but it was good to go and give it a shot anyway.

The noise when Overeem connected was loud. I noticed his weight is creeping back up to - 256lbs. We might be seeing the return of Ubereem.

Caught up with the rest of 209 main card and really enjoyed it, Woodley/Thompson served up such a stinker it warped the perception of the other fights.

The Wonderboy thing doesn't surprise me - I know its not a huge data set to go on but remember Machida looking amazing as he originally worked his way with his karate style stance then he became gun shy at the top level and was in some total stinkers too - maybe its just not a style that can be effective against the top of the tree elite guys at championship belt level ?

It's still an effective style, but not so much on a beefy wrestler with power in his hands who can take a shot. I think Woodleys permanent RBF makes people forget how tough he is.

In fairness to Wonderboy he has a decent chin, because some of those shots would have KOed other WWs. But Wonderboy is the Liverpool of MMA. He looks great against open fighters but if someone sits back, he doesn't quite have the power to turn the fight into anything other than the cagey affair we got yesterday. Have Wonderboy and Cerrone go to town on each other and we'll likely get another highlight KO for someone.

 

Woodley's two moments of offence were supremely effective, I'll give him that, but his talk of establishing himself as the greatest WW of all-time looks very hollow when he asserts himself only fleetingly. Bellator's WW division certainly looking a little more appealing at the moment.

It's hard to see who to put Woodley in against to try and relieve him of the belt. Maia already has a fight scheduled but even so, you would fear that a fight for him against Woodley could be another 25 minute stare off.

Agreed - I enjoyed most of the card!

 

No idea what happens for WW here. Woodley is in that Benson Henderson position where he's only champ by the skin of his teeth.

 

The sad thing is that *should* create an atmosphere where anything can happen, and the belt's up for grabs. However it doesn't feel exciting, it feels boring. And he gets less likeable every time out.

 

Hopefully Maia can be the hero we need.

I think even Dana is fed up of Woodley banging on about money fights, he has no position to ask for one after that shitshow. Could he be the first reinging champ to be cut? Im maybe being drastic but anything can happen in the UFC!

He won't get cut, but his first fight after losing the title might be on Fox Sports.

 

Like others I enjoyed most of the 209 undercard, just a shame it ended on a sour note. Wonder if DC will make 210? As much as I'd like Rumble to win that one, I'm also keen to see Jones DC 2, and Cormier picking up a win. I like the guy, can't understand why he gets booed like he does. Also looking forward to The Ultimate Fighter for the first time in a little while, should at least be spicy.

Cormier gets booed because he is a jock cunt that stole your lunch money or beat you up at school because he was ridiculously athletic, but a bit thick.

 

He doesn't come across as genuine most of the time and on top of that everybody knows he's only keeping the belt warm for when Jones can get his shit together for long enough to take it back.

I'm probably in the minority, and pretty sure it wouldn't happen, but I'd love it if Cormier beat Jones whenever they rematch. Maybe I'm in opposite world but always thought Jones is an utter, utter dick.

Dana is his pal, they get on well..don't read too much into their little back and forths. That's just websites fishing for stories. I do like him, out of the two in the cage this weekend, he pulled the trigger the most and never looked like losing.

When does TUF start? It should be good, it certainly needed a shake up. I dont get DC being booed either, other than against Anderson i cant recall him being dull, if Rumble wins at 210, DC could be Jones return match maybe
