Are you suggesting that an acute, painful illness can't strike at any time?

Mitrione will be the most gutted person about this. Was possibly about to get the biggest name win of his career.

I just thought it must be something really bad to have such timing. Turns out it was a kidney stone, which is bad, but it's really frustrating for all concerned. I don't think he's 100% not at fault either, they ignored his pain during the week, and if they'd paid attention, they would have had time to bring in a replacement. I have sympathy for him, but surely they have a responsibility to locate the problem sooner, for the fans who paid for tickets for one.

Im kinda in the middle, kidney stones are pretty hard to predict their occurrences but to pull out the day of the fight is bullshit. Surely they had prior knowledge and could have done something other than this which is the worst possible outcome for all involved

He probably thought he could make it. Didn't want to miss the payday, the opportunity, or let the fans down. For some fighters, there's too much at stake to bail.

I can imagine that so many fighters have fought through pain - and it's worked out for them - that they do it as a matter of course. It looks like it had to hospitalise him to get him out. Tough, stubborn fucker.

It's a dangerous culture, but I can't see it changing.

Exactly, if that was the UFC I'm not sure if the result would have been the same. Any sniff of a pain or problem, they should have been all over it and had a replacement.

Still, hopefully we see Derrick Lewis blasting Travis Browne tonight.

Here's a weird one, in the gym last night I was talking to a woman who said her partner is an african UFC fighter (recently signed), I forget the name, and she said she's best pals with Glenn Mcrory the boxer. I'm no expert on him, I know he does Sky these days, alI remember is my late dad saying he was an idiot, so I kept that quiet. She said this guy is on a 28-0 record which I presumed is in kickboxing, she said he was Thailand and Phillipines based, and is dropping muscle mass to come under the heavyweight limits. This may all be utter horseshit, which is why I'm putting it here for the more knowledgable to shed any light on it.

Apparently they knew 3 days before but it flared up on the day. Fedor was offered a few options (Sonnen and Oli Thompson being two, no surprise Kongo didn't enter the conversation) but preferred to wait for Mitrione. Also everyone was offered refunds prior to the event apparently.

So, it's shit but I think Bellator dealt with it about as well as they could.

The UFC only have one African Heavyweight listed and thats Francis Ngannou. No one in the recent signings matches either. Maybe she meant signed for a UK company and was confused calling all MMA "UFC". Sounds like she may have been BS'ing tbh.

Glenn Mcrory got fired by SKY last year for a drink driving/road rage incident. Where he shouted "do you know who I am ?" then beat the shit out some guy. I remember the thread on boxrec where alot of British guys who have met him said he is a dickhead.

Yeah I looked it up and I couldnt see anyone matching, but she seemed genuine, was saying the UFC had bought out the asian UFC market (mixing up her terms there I think), said her bloke had been training Mui Thai and had been signed by the UFC, was currently in Nigeria and joining her soon in the UK.

Nice to hear my dads old opinion confirmed, cheers.

Only Ngannou matches that description.

I see pig rigg made weight but still came in 3.5lbs heavier than lombard. No clue how this will play out. Neither have their magic vitamins.

I dont think it's him, seeing as he's moving from Nigeria to NE england in a few weeks, and she knew the talk enough to not be lying (as well as having fake pneumatic breasts, expensive looking clothes/watch and a day glow tan.

Its maybe a UFC owned organisation? Or Cage Warriors perhaps? Its pretty easy to pick up BS so as you say Angel the truth is probably in the middle somewhere.

The Lombard/Hendricks fight could be a slug fest or a total bore, Lombard to steam out attacking then collapse in a heap exhausted so Hendricks to win.

No idea what will happen with Broon and Lewis, Travis obviously needs a win and an emphatic win at that. Desperation can sometimes provide a Jake Ellenberger vs Matt Brown performance or can lead to getting pummelled. Brown vy TKO.

Fuck me you're not wrong. Horrible. His head was on the mat and hands by his side, took at least 5 or 6 too many shots. Sick burn in the post-fight about Browne's domestic violence though, great fight overall.

Also Grisham* and Stann are the blandest commentary team ever. I can't tell which one is talking.

*Edited because I initially wrote Anik, I was confused by the beigeness of them all.

The commentary was terrible, Stann is normally decent enough but no chemistry at all even with 1st show nerves taken into account it was poor.

If Lewis had landed some body shots he could have taken out Browne earlier but nasty finish after being hurt to the body.

that was probably a better card than 208

Lewis is not very refined, has suspect cardio, and I don't think he can survive at the top title level, but has the sort of raw power that gives him a chance against anybody on his day

Hendricks Lombard was just a curio of guys who don't really matter anymore in the title picture, especially at MW. No way either of those 2 have a chance against any of the top guys, both are just welters who can't cut weight and don't belong in the division.

Bad stoppage but I don't think Yamasaki or anyone should lose sleep over it  - travis browne's a prick. Hopefully steve mazzagatti refs his next fight.

They were talking post fight like hendricks is now in the mix at middleweight. Hold your horses. He just beat a fellow welterweight. It's certainly opens up some fun fights - Hendricks vs Tim Bosch would be interesting.

http://www.mmafighting.com/2017/2/20/14666796/derrick-lewis-appreciated-referees-late-stoppage-of-travis-browne-fight

Quote

Lewis, in his post-fight Octagon interview, intimated that he enjoyed the knockout because of the 2015 allegations of domestic violence against Browne. And in case anyone thought that was a joke, Lewis doubled down later at the post-fight press conference.

“I appreciate it,” Browne said at the stoppage. “Where [Yamasaki] at? I appreciate it, I appreciated him letting the fight go a little longer than what it should. I just wanted to get my anger out on Travis’ face because he likes to hit on women. So I appreciate him for doing that. I keep it real.”

Browne, who is currently in a relationship with Ronda Rousey, was never charged in the alleged incident with ex-wife Jenna Webb. He was suspended by the UFC and then reinstated following an investigation.

There doesn't seem to be any fallout for his sledging of Browne. Wonder if they're happy to cast Travis out to Bellator now. Certainly can't imagine any need to keep Taverdyan on side now that Rousey is old news.

Also, they've let Krylov go. RIP LHW.

I missed half his interview in the slurs, but it was hilarious once you re-listen to it. "where's rondas fine-ass", "I've been getting a lot of sex" and "I gotta do a no.2, I just gotta boo boo". I love Derrick Lewis, he's always hilarious. That's how you do real charisma, just be honest. He's always been funny on the MMA hour too.

Very odd. 21-5 and 5-2 at light heavy in the UFC. Something's gone on there.

They won't drop Browne unless he loses another. They want to keep ronda sweet.

That Derrick Lewis stuff is pretty funny. Syrprised they cit Krylov even more surprised they dropped Lorenz Larkin to. Bellators WW division is getting pretty handy these days.

Good fights on the prelims except the headliner the rest were entertaining, plus Randa Narkos is well sexy
