Some US bookies are favouring Bisping as GSPs return fight. It's a story I could definitely see play out:

- Bisping gets injured

- Yoel vs Jacare for interim belt

- Bisping's injury clears up moments after the bell, setting up a huge money fight with a rusty, beatable legend while the other two recover

- Win win. Whatever happens. It'd probably be catchweight too, so no complications with defending a title while an interim is in play.

Fantasy booking ahoy.

The worry for me is GSP was saying he felt undersized at 170 by the end of his run. The top guys at Middleweight are monsters nowadays.

I'd much rather see GSP come back against say Nate Diaz at 170 to shake of the rust. Then go for a title shot with the Woodley/Wonderboy winner. If he wins both fights then vs Conor in probably the biggest UFC fight of all time.

Bisping vs GSP is a decent fight but I'd much rather see Bisping/Romero which has a real nasty edge to it and GSP at 170.

I'd prefer to see Bisping fight romero or jacare. He's had his time in the sun. The middleweight division is losing credibility with him at the top while the best fighters are 'contenders.'

GSP said he could make 155 and I've got a feeling he might test the waters there for a super fight with conor to top up his bank account. I don't really buy into all the stuff he said about being undersized for middleweight. It was all excuses at the time to avoid the Anderson Silva matchup he was offered. GSP walks around at 200lbs while Anderson was about 210lbs and also fought at 170lbs. Suddenly Anderson is out of the picture and GSP can make 185lbs. O'rly.

Me too, a relevant fight would be preferable, though GSP would be fun to see. Bisping won and defended the belt, nithing much more to do/prove

GSP at 155lb would be massive but thatd be a huge fight, put it in Canada and watch the $$$$$s roll in.

Defended is a bit of a stretch. I like Bisping but he's been dodging Yoel and Jacare at every turn, both of them have done more than enough to get a shot. Hendo was a gimme, a thanks for all your hard work (for both guys), now Bisping needs to face the music.

I never got the GSP love, he was a good fighter obviously, but played everything so ridiculously safe after the Serra loss that you could tune out after round 1...you knew it was going to a 5 round decision win. Also I don't think you can take such time off away from the sport and come back the same. I know Cruz did it, but he was fighting injuries all the way, whereas GSP chose to leave on his terms. I honestly see him getting smashed by the current top 5 at least. I think Woodley would rip him to shreds, even after a tune up fight. I don't see this going well at all.

I never got the superstar status and love for GSP either, he was an amazing safe technical fighter with huge dedication to the sport, I'm not doubting his quality for a moment. What I never got was how such a safety first and polite non-gobshite turned that into being one of the only guaranteed 1m selling PPV stars, I'd argue DJ is more exciting to actually watch as a fighter now and he can hardly sell out a phone booth.

Can only assume he was a 300-400k fighter in the US and 600k Canadians bought every fight.

GSP was phenomenal at the beginning and when he was motivated agaisnt BJ he crushed him and he tried pretty damn hard to get the arm bar against Dan Hardy. It was when Greg Jackscon started sticking his oar in that he became dominatingly dull. Things have moved forward so much its hard to reccommend him coming back.

I guess his popularity was partly due to being such a good ambassador for a sport with a horriible perception. Plus being French-Canadian kinda gave him minority status i suppose.

GSP was the first long-term champ to effectively monetise it with endorsements. He became the template for a man who would be a savage on the way to the top, but play it safe because he had so much to lose. Conor's advanced the formula by never actually putting his titles on the line.

With GSP it also not least because he was aware of the effects of head trauma. And didn't want to jeopardise those good looks.

He was just being a smart guy. Although with the talk of alien abduction, he may still have taken more damage than  he'd like :(

GSP was fun to watch at first but that KO destroyed his confidence. You know his tactic now; takedowns until the fighter is shattered, then a few punches to make it look like he has standup while they're breathing heavy.

The thing that really really pissed me off during his 7 fight decision run is he only went for a finish twice... that's a 175 minutes of fighting and only 2 attempts. Crazy stat.

He doesn't just make it look like he's got stand up though. He's an absolute master at controlling distance with the jab.

Or was, at least. Who knows what he is now.

I don't think he's got any confidence issues though - he just knows how to win, stay wealthy and stay healthy. A guy making millions in endorsements and risking it all by swinging for the fences when he can win on his own terms is not a smart guy.

Yup, but Randy got KO'd and wound up bitter and in Bellator. No big Under Amor deal, no leverage for 8-figure comebacks.

Not to mention that Randy, innovator of Wall & Stall, had plenty of boring fights. At least GSP broke Koscheck's face.

Yeah, GSP is smart, unfortunately it doesnt always make for a fun watch. Randy was horrible, his gameplans of one takedown followed by 5 rounds pressing someone against the cage. Thrilling, cheers Randy. I do remember that Kos fight, I was hyped after TUF (back when it was watched by anyone) and GSP jabbed him into oblivion.

My fav randy fight was against Tim Sylvia. That was a grind fest but he still won despite the age / size difference. Amazing stuff.

GSPs best fight is still against Matt Hughes. He was such a dominant champion and it really felt like a proper significant moment in mma. Like the first full changing of the guard. I don't think there's been a moment like that since as no two champions have been dominant in sequence.

Do I want to stay up and find a stream for Bellator? On one hand its a decent card on the other I'm tired now and if fucking Meathead beats Fedor thats going down as one of the most depressing loss's in MMA history and wil ruin my Sunday.

Yeah man what a disgrace. I mean how sick can Mitrione actually be 2 hours from the fight, stomach bug? It's absurd.

Are you suggesting that an acute, painful illness can't strike at any time?

Mitrione will be the most gutted person about this. Was possibly about to get the biggest name win of his career.

Annoying. Didn't check Twitter last night so the first I heard of it was when the torrent title was 'Thomson vs Pitbull'. Bleh. I can sympathise but still grates.

The new main was decent though, Thomson looked fresh considering his age and inactivity. Hope he fights a bit more regularly now but that may be wishful thinking bearing in mind he is at AKA.
