Everybody seems to be going in big on this Ngannou, even Dana White talking him up as a future champ. One thing with Arlovski is that he can always bang a bit, even when wobbled (and it doesn't take much to wobble him nowadays) - this could be a fun but short fight.

Having ignored the card a bit it actually looks quite interesting.

Anybody know why heavyweight has an upper weight limit, never understand why it isn't unlimited under the Nevada Athletic Comm unified rules. All I can think is its to stop freak shows like having Butterbean or Bob Sapp fighting Cain or the smaller end of the scale, but I want to see that. If a heavy is good enough and can climb the rankings then its all good.

Still seems weird to me you can have a guy weighing 206 fighting a guy fighting a cut 265lbs dude. I think Crocop and Fedor were 230lbs most times. Maybe a 230lb division and a 230 to 300 plus division to be better.

Just been watching the promos. They've totally changed everything it's very strange. Joe Rogan isn't even soundbites anymore just one word blank stat statements.

Rogan did let slip on his podcast recently just how stupid the new guys are. He said they were talking backstage about how nunes was a can and Ronda would walk right through her - thus ploughing all the airtime in the buildup to ronda. These guys clearly have zero clue it's mad.

Impressive they got the number of rounds right.

Also more amused than I should be that Guillard still can't win, he's a proper berk.

Im not sure they did to be honest. Might have been ten. I just said five cos its right.

Absolutley agree that they need to break up that division weight-wise as its an insane difference. The new owners love interim belts so much why not create new belts instead?

Its mad and its sad to. I love mma and it was the ufc that made me fall in love and i dont want it to get its soul taken away. These wme guys are just like any venture capitalists, money hungry twats. At least if wme run it into the ground the Fertitas can buy it back cheaply and rebuild it. Again.

I reckon Rogan will quit commentary before his latest contract is up, he seems pretty disillussioned and has said many times fight companion is more fun.

Glad this is on early tbh, Caceras Knight well worth a watch but Arlovski needs to stop. Just the way he stands and his striking offence is dreadful, horrible front and foot-flicking kicks, awkward stance, poking out token jabs. He looked like a lamb being fed to a lion, cut him please. Thankfully Ngannou looks a serious prospect, he absolutely clobbered him.

Maasvidal looked great, exposed cowboys limits at this weight class I feel.

Sure that should have ended at the end of the first. Herb Dean was blocking Masvidal before the bell went.

Cowboys weakness is always the same. If you have good hands and a good chin. You just need to land a few and Cerrone will crumble.

Yeah it was close but I'm not sure about the audio sync on the stream, I give Herb the benefit there.  To be fair Masvidals boxing was high quality but yeah, Cowboy has reached gatekeeper status I think.

Struggling to find motivation to see Pena fight, apart from see her lose. I find her unpleasant and dull.

Total domination, great takedowns and gameplan. Pena thought she could just muscle out the win but she got completely shut down tactics wise, and a great sub.  I think Pena would have beaten Rousey, that's how far these other women have moved on from her.

Rogan will be crushed over the Cerrone loss. He seemed to think the guy was unbeatable at 170. Might watch the fight companion of that fight later for a laugh.

Cerrone says stuff like "I don't bother watching fight videos of my opponent" and "I don't need to do any sparring". Then Rogan repeats it on his podcast like thats a good idea. No Joe it is'nt. Theres a reason why pretty much every great MMA and boxing champion do those things.

despite being a thoroughly unpleasant individual I do enjoy Cerrone as a fighter, his plan though in this was nuts, just stand stationary in front of a boxer and eat jabs on your nose for the majority of the first round.

although I like his octagon exploits I also get some pleasure in seeing a bully boy like him so thoroughly and comprehensively beaten up.

he is looking like a gatekeeper, but then again we all said that about Bisping before his opportunistic run started

I think Herb Dean stopped for the round too, but the corner or doctor could have stopped the fight because Cerrone looked glassy-eyed in the break and he took needless damage thereafter.

Beautiful submission by Shevchenko to earn her title shot, but quite a noticeable size difference between her and the champ, who looks like she could move to feather without too much drama. There's a UFC PPV scheduled for Brazil in June, so guessing Nunes and / or Aldo will headline.

I fucking loved Shevchenkos performance, the throws she did while Pena was kneeing her were fantastic and the arm bar was beautiful. She should be fighting for the FW belt not Holm.

Arlovski is a legend and can still beat a lot of guys but wobt be winning the title again sadly. Ngannou looked great as much as you can in a 60s fight anyway but he looked composed for sure

I thought Herb's second round stoppage was very unusual, and mostly done to make up for not calling it in the first round. Cerrone was out, and putting him back in put him at risk. Stunning showing by Masvidal, but again, he needs the right opponents to look good.

Ngannou is incredibly powerful. I wonder who they give him next? If Browne picks up a win in Feb, I'd enjoy seeing that fight.

It seemed to me intially that Herb stopped the fight 1/2 second before the buzzer. Then the replay looked the otherway its hard to tell if youre not there live. The real stoppage seemed not quite right so i agree it was to save Cerrone who wasnt upset at the decision.

In other fights the buzzer sounded a bit all over the shop, and there were a few issues with audio throughout. Guessing Herb Dean could hear the end of round clearer than coverage, like you say hard to tell not being in the arena where there wouldn't be any delay.

Would love to see Browne get mauled by Ngannou. Win that and a bout Vs a #2-5 ranked fighter awaits. The guy is a beast, a perfect example of how MMA fighters are evolving (Shevchenko looks that way too) to take the sport to another level.

Felt bad for Arlovski but as soon as I saw Ngannou on the the countdown I was like 'bye andrei.'. A true 260lber is rare. Future champ for sure.

Cowboys attitude I like but he keeps getting to title contention and fucking up. All that pissing around he does is the difference between him holding a belt and him never holding one.
