What was that?

You know what I mean though, he's the straight man. Saying that, after a year and a half he still thinks the D in Jedrzejczyk is an O because it's always written in capitals...and pronounces it Ye-Oh-Jay-Check.

Pettis misses weight. I really hope they don't let Pettis fight at 145 again. If a fighters body shuts down because they can't make the weight limit then they should absolutely not be fighting in that weight class.

Now see I like Cowboy, he comes across well, he a straight shooter, I don't think he can fake it for such a prolonged period. Matt Brown has always had a chip on his shoulder, so I think i'm siding with Cowboy on this one..

There's a lot of stories of cowboy being a massive cunt. I like his attitude in regards to fighting / enjoying life but the stuff about him basically kicking the shit out of guys on the beach put me off.

I think after Brown he should fight Nick Diaz. That would be pure fireworks!

wow - after not feeling this card at all in the build up it turned into the best night of fights in ages

every one on the main even was a cracker

despite a great win there is no way Gastalum is a middleweight, he said as much after the fight

Choi v Swanson was just amazing

Cerrone v Brown delivered in spades, cowboy looked amazing and that was an all time highlight reel ko

Very thorough performance by Holloway, looked class. Hard to see where Pettis goes after this

How about this from the prelims

Pettis is too old to change his spots I feel, RDA took his soul.

Word to this.

Pettis since 2011:

Stephens, Lauzon, Cerrone, Bendo, Gil, RDA, Alvarez, Barboza, Oliveira, Holloway.

That is just one bad dude after another.. That said there is something way off with his mental game. He looked special against these beasts up until RDA took his soul. He's looked totally tentative and uninspired in basically every fight since, compared to the guy who trashed Lauzon, Bendo, Cerrone, and Gil in literally UNDER 15 minutes total?

Why not? Kennedy is comparable in size to a lot of the top MWs, Gastelum held his own against the wrestling and bounced back to KO him. In the press conf he was talking about fighting Vitor so I don't think it's all done and dusted just yet.

Anyway, Swanson vs Choi was one of the best fights I've seen in ages. Combined with the post fight interviews which gave me a nice warm feeling inside, it's the sort of fight that reaffirms your love for MMA.

because Gastalum is stocky and said he didn't have to cut weight to make MW - all the best guys are boiled down light heavies that come into the cage a stone plus over the weight limit.

a short fat guy who just can't be bothered to train properly can't survive long against the top 10 monsters, he did well against Kennedy but he was  coming back himself after a couple of years off.

"Vicious body kick" - "It was a head kick" LOL, gonna miss Goldie.

Made me lol. It was clearly a head kick not sure how Goldie confused the two.

Gastlelum destroyed Kennedy. if he could put on some muscle I could see him getting into contention at middleweight. The bigger middleweights like Romero, Rockhold will give him some problems though but hey, Tyson was 5'11 KOing guys who were 6'6 so who knows.

WOW at Cub vs Choi, amazing stuff and a credit to both men and MMA as a whole.

Cowboy vs Browne was good to with a nice finish

Spoiler

Glad Holloway won, i respect Pettis skill but have never really bèen a fan for some reason.

Gastellum looked good at 185lb he should stay at mw imo to

With MMA in the more modern era the stocky muscle bound type fighter seems to be out of vogue, I know there are some like Romero but in general its guys too tall/big for a weight boiling themselves down into it.

Not many walk around within a few pounds of their weight class, why I think Gastalum at MW not going to work

Yeah i know what you mean, Gastellum wasnt fat looking but seemed to have enough spare tire that he should be able to make 170lb and the bigger guy. It makes sense to me to maybe trim down then stay at your fighting weight +5lb ish rather than go way up and have to cut loads. But easier said than done i suppose. im sure there are MWs cutting from over 200lbs so theres some big guys at mw, besides didnt Dana say Gastellum wasnt allowed to fight WW like Linekar is banned from 125lb.

Another point entirely is that there should be more divisions.

Also i cant wait for Dominik the decisionater to fight Cody Garbrandt and hopefully lose. Cruzs movement/technique is indescribable but man his fights are kinda boring.

Long post, lol, but I hadnt posted for ages in here.

Considering the disaster that card was shaping up to be, it turned out outstanding. Goldie's body kick KO comment, smug Tim Kennedy getting smoked, potential FOTY in Swanson Choi, Cowboy's sweet clean head kick, and the demise of poor old Pettis (who I do like, but he's gun shy these days). Shame that Holloway sounds like a mouse when he talks, but good stuff all round. The torrents are shocking for this mind, either a ridiculous 9 part telesync bullshit full of audio skips and missed out the cowboy interview, or a 6gb beautiful 720p rip that's entirely in german.

Pettis needs to move camps, build himself up physically at 155lbs and add some more strings to his bow. He certainly has the talent to win gold again but the fire has gone and his progress is in the gutter. It reminds me of the rut Arlovski was in for a few years but if he can turn things round anyone can.

I don't like to write fighters off but I don't think he does have it in him. He's a decent bloke but he's a playboy, he gets 3 haircuts a week, lives this luxe lifestyle, and everything about him is about being flash. Showmanship is great, but he takes it too far. In the embedded he visits a local restaurant and has them bring out his own personalised steak knife...literally..a knife with "showtime" engraved in it. Its one of the stupidest things Ive ever seen in mma, but it sums him up. He is quite a decent person, but its all about the bling with him. He can't make 145, conor would utterly annihalate him if he ever got near him at 155, just like RDA and the rest did not so long ago. This knife thing, for me, is him crossing over into mma Spinal Tap territory, and I don't think he has the genuine heart and work ethic left in him. He'll post a million hashtags about it like he always does, but I think he's about done.

Reyes v Kim at 199 & Woodley v Wonderboy at 205 were great too but those two that you mention & Swanson v Choi are the standout contests.

Diaz v McGregor 2 was the best for me though because it was such a hugely hyped fight that delivered in such spectacular fashion. The sheer drama & tension of it was like nothing I've ever experienced. I think two losses in a row for Conor would have done real damage to his image & would have meant that he wouldn't have got the chance to go for the 155 title straight after. Despite it being a non-title fight it was arguably the biggest fight he'll ever have & a massive gamble with a lot on the line.

I was convinced he was done by the 3rd & it was just a matter of time until Nate wore him down but the way he hung on & it went the distance as a 5-round war was pretty fucking epic. Maybe not the best example of mixed martial arts skill but certainly the most dramatic & a contest that had me quite literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. I still get chills just thinking about it. It was incredible & will be talked about for years to come.

Bisping - Silva is a great shout, but here's another: Bisping - Rockhold.

I'll tell you why, sure, it ended quite quick, and sure, it could be upset of the year, but I think because Michael Bisping was so much the underdog, because against someone who had such apparent attributes in Rockhold - clinical striking, great technique - against someone he'd already beat, and lost to that person in such devastating fashion, it deserves a nomination at least.

My actual favourite is Mac vs Alvarez, in terms of rewatching and rewatching, and sheer feel good factor. Bisping Rockhold 2 as well, brilliant. In terms of actual surprise and crazy action and showboating, Swanson Choi takes it...the stuff Cub was doing in round 3 was amazing, gorgeous combos, high kicks, playing to the crowd, looking one way then throwing a punch the other...and even a good speech on the mic afterwards. For sheer impact, it's Conor Alvarez but for surprise and full 3 rounds of action..Swanson Choi.
