The new direction from the new owners is either going to be ruinous or we'll just end up as the old men in the crowd after the premier league was formed talking about Don Revie & Chopper Harris and how this isn't proper football.

Spending a bit of time on sites like Sherdog, MMAU and Bloody Elbow makes it clear that a lot of people who like MMA don't traditionally like 'sports'. This is probably a move to make things resemble the other big franchise sports, but it's probably time.

People can say that Goldberg's great to fire out the slogans and give something for Rogan to bounce off, but it's irritating to fathom that someone so unknowledgeable can be at the top of his profession. It's a joke, and there are many better options which won't make them look bush league.

I enjoy drunk Bas as much as anyone, but he belongs calling openweight Minowa fights. Him cutting loose probably doesn't really fit with WME's vision of the sport.

Bring on the new era, I guess!

Just imagine how the old UFC fans felt when actual rules started turning up, and it wasn't just one-gloved boxers fighting in a glorified car park.

I think it's time to fully leave the 'rebel' era behind. Mainstream professionalism (hopefully) results in and end to: Dana White's behaviour, rankings that are meaningless, title shots falling by the wayside, and poor fighter pay/representation.

Also hopefully Face the Pain, but this post is already packed with too much wishful thinking.

embedded for 206 started but going to need something special to get much interest in this card going

Cerrone sporting a lovely huge new neck tattoo of the letters BMF (think thats the name of his ranch/training camp and stands for bad mutha fucka) - sure that will get him lots of Fox media work in the new shiny family friendly UFC. Also he picked up a shiner in late camp training, doubt it will make him miss the event as must be a few days out being on first embedded.

Also Holloway always sounds really punchy and slurry to me when he talks and is only a young fighter

God that title fight on Saturday was infuriating. That fight was there for the taking for Elliott, instead he's telling his corner 'he's got nothing', clowning around like he's the 3rd Diaz brother and putting up zero resistance to takedowns. DJ bounced back well obviously but Elliott could and should have made his size count.

Edit: also that Cejudo/Benavidez fight had the most bizarre scoring I've ever seen. And Joe B had the balls to claim it was spot on!

I miss the zuffa gladiator.

All the intros and music since the reebok deal have been total ass. It's supposed to be Gladiators fighting in a cage, so all the gladiator stuff was completely appropriate.

The new themes are like something you'd hear in a game while managing items.

I like Cerrone as a fighter, and a devil-may-care extreme sportsman, but the guy comes across as a gold-plated bellend if stories are true.

I think it was on Bloody Elbow where I read that he habitually started fights on shady grounds (going after people's girlfriends, throwing racial slurs) just to get into a "what are you gonna do!?" scenario with some poor schlub.

After Donald joined the new Association, Dana's rebuttal mentioned him paying 100k of his own money to get Cerrone a criminal defense lawyer following an altercation on a boat. I'm not one to take Dana at his word by any means, but I have trouble picturing anything other than Cerrone essentially bullying someone that he shouldn't have.

Same, like Cowboy as a fighter but he does come across as more than a bit of a helm.

Anyone see Rousey on Conan? Looks much more in shape already than she did against Holm, when, for a fighter at least, she looked under-trained. Not her biggest fan but good to see her looking ready. Dana must be crossing everything hoping Rousey wins; a rematch with Holm is about the biggest non-Cyborg fight he can make for Rowdy / the women's divisions.

UFC fighter Bobby Green said Cerrone was drunk at a UFC fan meet and greet and was being a total wanker to everyone. Groping women infront of their boyfriends/husbands and laughing about it saying they wouldn't dare fight him. Threw some racist stuff at Green too who is black. Heard a story years back about Cerrone and his buddy locking another fighter in a room backstage at a venue and screaming in his face daring him to "do something". Think it was Jamie Varner. Been a few other odd stories about him backstage over the years.

Great fighter to watch but I do enjoy when he gets fucked up. Favourite moment of his was in the Nate Diaz fight. Going into the last round Cerrone is beaten up badly and looks disheartened. He raises his hand just before the round starts to ask if Nate wants to touch gloves as a mark of respect. Nate responds to this nice gesture in the way he knows best, he flips double middle fingers at him and mouths "fuck you". Cowboy just nods his head sadly and goes back to being Stockton slapped around the cage.

Yeah a few people have said that about Cowboy. I'm not sure what to believe, I enjoy listening to him in interviews, I like him on his Rogan appearances...he seems a pretty relaxed but thrill seeking guy. But I've said this for many a year, and witnessed it plenty in person...the minor celebrity you see on camera and think 'aw, what a nice fella', is an egomaniac off camera and a nightmare to deal with.

Slightly off the wall example...Ant and Dec, who I like. If you watch them on celeb jungle, they're fun, warm presenters, and very genuine. But if you switch over to ITV2 afterwards and see them interact with the 'B' team presenters, Vicky Pattison, Chris Ramsey etc...you can really see where the power lies. They are INCREDIBLY powerful in television, whatever they say goes. But these B team presenters that we see as submissive on TV are pretty much always rampaging egos (believe me, I've dealt with a lot of them). They will have incredible demands of their own and be utterly awful if you, say, met them at a bar with them doing a personal apperance. When away from their overlords and masters, they suddenly think they're the bees knees.

Bringing me to my point. Donald Cerrone..we see as a B level UFC fighter...never held a belt, not really a main card headline act. We see him and think aww, well I like this guy, good honest pro. But once those cameras are off, and he's not PRing himself...he could quite well be a rampaging ego nightmare. Walks into a shop, hey..gime 6 beers, do you know who I am? Everyone in his ear is telling him he's great, and on top of that...these are fighters. He could kick the living fuck out of 90% of the everyday people he meets, he's literally a trained killer. That must add a fair bit to your ego too.

So I don't know..I would like to hope he is as he portrays, but I've heard these stories, and the counter stories. The Bobby Green racism thing was supposedly made up by Green. Or maybe that was a PR team on maximum smooth-over. I don't know. Sometimes I see him off on his adventures and think well there's a guy who loves life, but he also might just be a shallow adrenaline junkie who abuses his girlfriend then picks up a new model. I just don't know.

PS. I do know that tattoo absolutely stinks.

Just for reference with the Goldberg / Rogan stuff. Rogans contract ends August 2017. Goldergs contract ends around the same time. I can see the new commentators being Brain Stann and some unknown. This is ALL just to cut more costs to pay off the 4 billion dollar loan.

Personally given the option I'd prefer Goldie and Rogan over Stann and an unknown.

UFC without Rogan just feels wrong to me.

Rogans the ground guy, Goldie the colour commentator (???) but every so often they had a third and it all worked surprisingly well - I recall Randy doing one and it was ace. Getting rid of them in this way seems like a complete backwards step.

No, goldies the anchor, rogans the colour commentator. It means he's the one who gets to go off on tangents while the anchor gives him a framework to do it in. Be 'colourful' as it were, while the the other plays it straight.
