Weigh In's rather chaotic. Cerrone/Gastelum off. Gastelum missed weight and in NY you have to be within 5 pounds of each other. Thiago Alves also missed weight but told Jim Miller early so he reweighed in so they were within the 5 pound limit.

Everyone else good to go.

Gastelum is a joke and needs kicking out the UFC - his attitude to weight cut is seriously unprofessional and thats the 3rd time I think he's missed weight.

Shame as I love watching Cerrone

Jacare vs Cowboy, make it happen Dana.

It's not even cutting water weight (though I'm sure that'll be the excuse) Gastelum and Hendricks are just fat.

Thiago Alves isn't really a discipline issue it's a 'I fucked my body up' problem. He struggled to make 170lbs because he was roided to the gills (the guy was an absolute tank) but said steroid use has now made it harder for him to fight at what would be his natural weight. Wonder where he goes from here?

at 170lbs against Hughes.

Missing 155lbs this morning.

The only weakness Ronda has shown so far is the inability to close distance on someone who's amazing at keeping distance, circling out, avoiding the cage, avoiding the clinch etc. The striking got the points and the KO but that's where the real work was done - avoiding Ronda while dipping in and out of striking range. Nunes doesn't have that. So unless Ronda decides to try and box Nunes I see her doing exactly what she did to everyone - rush in, take shots to the face if she has to, clinch up, trip takedown, work the armbar.

The only weakness, seriously? Her strikings awful, I question her heart, I doubt her BJJ is all that hot...tricky to judge from what we've seen. she's got a lot of weaknesses but her kick ass Judo covers it all up.  That and her aura of invincibility.  Saying that I still think she beats Nunes.

embedded footage is often quite a good chance to assess the mental states of fighters, really don't see that any of Conor's schtick has got to Alvarez this time, was obvious how under Aldo and Diaz's skin he got, Alvarez though seems well prepped for it all and definitely isn't walking into the fight beaten.

also I want all female title fights to be between these crazy Polish ladies, JJ is plain nuts.

Yeah I've been quite impressed by Eddie. Not Aldo-esque quiet, but not acting out of character to try and match Conor either. Pretty hyped for tonight now, amazed the card has come through relatively unscathed.

Anyway, predictions:

Eddie by decision (scrappy)

Wonderboy by decision (clear)

JJ by KO (brutal)

I was surprised too. Alvarez has been a bit of a powder keg in the past so I was expecting Conor to do his head in.

I find JJ quite attractive. I don't know why, my female friends think she looks an absolute state (they of course think Ronda walks on water). Maybe it's the angry accent.

I'm edging toward Alvarez too because of his demeanour, surprised when I had a look on Betfair how close they got it too, Conor a narrow favourite.

JJ definitely has something 'going on' she's funny and a bit batshit crazy and very self assured without being arrogant and off putting like the sneering Rousey.

I agree her striking isn't great however, Amanda is  a pressure fighter, in bursts. She might have balance but she does consistently and frequently commit herself to big strikes and leave herself pretty widely open to being clinched, struck, double/single legged or grappled. That is why I feel Rousey's striking isn't that much of a factor, instead I see the fight being on the ground ultimately.

As for her BJJ, she does train with Rener Gracie.

I couldnt disagree more. What eddie is doing (and I dont think he realises it) is trying to draw strength from negativity. Conor promotes his fight with trash and plays mind games in the pressers and twitter, but when it comes to training..its all about positivity, learning, focussing on the goal. He's bouncing around having fun, working hard, he never mentions Eddie at all unless it's into a microphone. As he says, the opponent doesnt matter.

Alvarez is getting punchbags made  with Conor on them, he spends all of his embeddeds and interviews focussed on and bad mouthing Conor. He's drawing on negativity, and that doesn't breed positive results. It might not entirely determine the outcome, but it certainly puts Eddie at a disadvantage. He's a good fighter don't get me wrong, but when it comes to the psychology of the game, he doesn't get it at all. It's sports phsychology 101, you don't focus on negatives, you focus on yourself.

We'll see how it plays out, but I think Alvarez is very old school, and not in a good way. His attitude is all wrong, he should be embracing his heel persona and focussing on himself, not slagging off his opponent when he's not even there. Conors attacks are all mental warfare, in public, designed to unsettle Alvarez. I think they're working.

Cheers fella. I'll pop your guidance on a tweet to the only man  to hold titles in both of the current top 2 US orgs.

I'm sure he could use this push in the right direction.

This is called money bags.

I think Eddie defends the belt. I get flashbacks of the Mendez fight, and Eddie is much larger and stronger version of Mendez, so keeping Conor down would not be as much an issue. He will certainly eat shots but his durability will come through for him.

To run with the upsets, I also feel Woodley successfully defends against Wonderboy.

And JJ will mess KK's shit up no doubt.

In short, no belts are changing hands tonight (or tomorrow morning).

Never said he's not good, but I don't like using negativity as a motivating factor for success.

Working early tomorrow so I sadly can not watch live.

Which means complete internet shutdown for me, I am lucky that I wont need to go online for anything. I have downloaded a couple of random podcasts, will listen to them on the way to work and back. Get a 1080p torrent of the prelims downloading as soon as I get back, let hat finish whilst preparing snacks, then download a 1080p torrent of the ppv and let that finish as I watch the prelims. I usually work weekends so my anti-spoiler game is tight.

Four great fights so far.

I'm watching on fight pass now, but the ppv is blacked out in Ireland because eircom are massive cunts. I've got kodi but the streams i've found are inconsistent. So I paid £4 for a sportsmania.eu sub. It's bogey but reliable, i've used it before through kodi and it's rock solid.
