The rumour is his partner is pregnant, nothing has been annouced by him or his partner. He might just be burnt out and need a break. He might just carry on, who knows.

Jon Jones defense seemed to be a team mate handed him a unknown "dick pill" and he just took it a few weeks before a fight. No checking what it was or what was in it. He is an idiot but he is not that stupid.

Going back to the anticipated McGregor announcement, isn't it just that he's taking a year off due to his impending fatherhood?

Dana's said it's something 'out of leftfield' and McGregor has said what's been reported up until now is all false. And we know how both hold the truth dear when speaking publicly ;)

Ooh, maybe Conor's starting a baby's MMA division? CM Punk currently looking for adult diapers in the hope of picking up some experience.

I thought USADA were pretty serious though and wouldnt accept him knocking up some sex pill supplement thing, I imagine they'd need receipts and whatnot, find out if it was true or an after the event defence.

So do we (here) think he was basically roiding, or just reckless?

With that much money on the table, I don't think many people would expect a fighter to take risks like that.

It's just the perception that 'I was stupid and horny. And I'm sure I can find/have a pill manufactured with the substance in question' is a better defense than 'I was a calculating cheat who miscalculated.'

No Jones until August, perhaps no McGregor for a while, Rousey clearly has few fights left and GSP not entering the cage anytime soon. The UFC has some interesting times ahead. They need some star power to sell ppv's in America.

Prime opportunity for someone to step up to the mantle. They don't have to ape Mac's style, but the company needs a few more people that can sell themselves and generate a bit of hype prior to events. The company can probably tick over without anyone doing so, but after the $4.2b purchase, safe to say 'ticking over' is not really an option any more.

Feels like too many fighters are focusing on McGregor's antics without seeing them for what they are: classic showmanship, and then playing along. They don't have to cut stellar promos, right now even being competent on the mic will raise a fighter's status. I get plenty are just in it 'to fight' but put an extra zero on their paycheck and none would refuse, so find it hard to understand why very few fighters are choosing the showman route and exploit the opportunity. UFC is not like boxing where records can be padded to the point of being mystical because there are just too many ways to lose, so unless you're one of the company's special projects, which in itself can backfire (Northcutt), hype has to come from the fighters themselves. Ferguson just beat up RDA and had prime airtime to call out someone the week before his division gets put under the brightest spotlight it's ever had at 205... and instead went for a cheap pop from the home crowd before scurrying away.

It's a shame CM Punk got torn to shreds, as that's the calibre of talking and charisma modern fighters should aspire to. Letting their fists do the talking is admirable but UFC is too big business for that to be enough to sustain and grow.

Cm Punk tried to play the "I'm trying to be a serious MMA fighter, I respect everyone." game.

It was rubbish and he was rubbish. He is now a joke in MMA circles.

Conor is what the young fighters should aspire to be if they want big money. Talk shit but back it up. Insult other fighters and camps but still appear likeable to the mainstream.

Also surprised he needed a dick pill to fuck his wife. When I am training I am horny AF.

I'm the opposite, I'm way too sore and tired. Besides the  chemicals found (Clomid) are prescription only (and carcinogens). No way they could get that stuff into a boner pill (Clomid is a specific chemical unlike test precursors and viagra generic derivatives of which there are many). That would get the company shut down.

I wanted some 40 minute build show today on UFC and I think I love Joanna. She is amazing.

Karol one is also Super cute but I don't think she has what it takes to dethrone j.

Ko or decision.

Decision probably yeah. Agree, Kovalkievic (spelling disaster probably) is really fit, she dresses like a Britney Spears video or something, litle grey skirts and long legs.  She's super cute, and she could kick your head in.

I just remember it has 'walkie' in the middle and then it all falls into place.

JJ on the other hand I have no idea.

As for the fight, probably JJ but to be honest I still haven't seen enough of KK (I can only really remember the Namajunas fight). Also I didn't know about their amateur fight (everyone else probably does), that's pretty cool. Adds another layer of intrigue to it!

I've barely seen her fight too. I saw maybe one highlight reel and it did look impressive. She looked to have a steady, forward pressure style that takes advantage of her range. A lot of left, right, left, right, left. JJ definitely seems more sophisticated but also seems to fire with worse intentions that KK. My reservation was that KK didn't seem as fast and explosive. But again, haven't seen much of her. I'd be stoked for any JJ fight though and this one has a great narrative.

Meant should aspire to in terms of on the mic alone, but should have clarified to say more his WWE levels because he was fire. But yeah nothing else warrants aspiration. Agree Conor has provided a blueprint, obviously only a few could even manage the same levels, but surprised to see so few try, instead preferring to snipe.

And you make a good point, backing it up is another aspect. I think MMA fighters get a little more leeway due to the likelihood that even the very best will have numbers in their loss column, so can afford a little bit of hubris to drum up interest.

Thought more about JJ Vs KK and think 3rd round TKO by the champ. She's a beast of a fighter who knows she belongs at the top, whereas KK, while very good, doesn't appear to have that nasty streak her opponent does.

Cm Punk in the absolute best case scenario ever would have fought under his real name in some low key org and picked up a wi against a bunch of cans, then used his name for a UFC fight. The guy is athletically and technically appalling. Plus nobody over 30 knew who the fuck he even was. Bizarre move.

Do you really  think that, so long after Anderson's apocryphal sex pill ban, that that's actually what happened?

Sex pills are the spurious scapegoat de jour.

Conor looked the most relaxed I've ever seen him at a pre-fight presser. And WHAT an outfit and entrance. I hope he floors Alverez.

About to watch the full thing but my word Woodley is a twat.

Conor is quick witted isn't it? 'Imagine how much a chair would have cost me' - quality

I don't think anyone has gone from ok dude to complete twat quicker than Tyron Woodley. Just woah.

That thing on the basketball court the other day where he was trying to get fans to shout 'I got your back' and they all shouted 'Wonderboy' was the best and worst thing I've ever seen.

Hard to know if it was the waiting for his title shot and then initial dodging of WB that turned the fans against him, or whether he's always been a twat and we never noticed.

The Wonderboy chant was brilliant. Sums up how disinterested the fans are in him.

I reckon he's always been a bit of a nob but it's been covered up by sympathy with his injury setbacks and guys dropping out of fights - which casts him in a totally different light. To then be gifted a titleshot and start acting like you've run the division for a decade is completely off putting.

Woodleys always had a chip on his shoulder, and once Hendricks dropped out against him, it became a massive steaming potato.

Predictions time..

Mcgregor TKO rd 2

Wonderboy UD

Jedrzejczyk TKO rd 4

Romero UD

Gastelum TKO

Tate UD

Stephens KO (please please please)

Johnson TKO

It was when Condit injured himself and Woodley acted as if it was a stone cold TKO.

Then sat out waiting for a title shot off the back of it.
