Urijah Faber has annouced his fight with Brad Pickett will be his last.

I know he and Alpha Male are not to popular round here but the guy has done alot for building the lower weight classes and the California MMA scene overall. He was a real star back in WEC and has had some fantastic fights over the years. Think he still has way to much for Pickett so should end his career on a win in his home town.

I hope Faber retires after. It's a shame he never won a UFC title but he'll be a hall of famer anyway as he carried the lighter weight classes for 10 years straight.

I've just had the GSP interview on in the background. Greedy UFC is greedy. The excuse of 'we'd have to reintroduce him to fans' is laughable. GSP would be fighting in canada and is considered a p4p great.

Faber  definitely a hall of famer. He was a pioneer of the lighter weight classes and paved the way for many who came after him. Might not have got that UFC strap but was always in the picture and had a great WEC run.

Eye poker and groin attacker these days, he finished a fight with repeated pawing at the face then choked out Frankie Rivera without letting him recover (ref missed it), and Jimmy River couldn't see after they fought a few months back, he ended up with a cracked retina. Faber's dangerous in the cage but not in the way you'd want.

Fabers not a prolific eye poker like Jones or Browne so I'll let him off one fight. I think he'll keep it clean for his last fight and they'll make it fun.

Apparently Carwin accepted a fight with Fedor. As much as this would have been kind of cool a few years ago I don't want to see it now. Carwin would smash Fedor at this point.

One fight? Try his last 4 or 5, he's shocking.

I'm in the camp that thinks Faber is a shit and hope he loses every time he steps into the octagon.

Bisping publically claiming he's verbally agreed to fight GSP at 206 and calling on him to sign the contracts - good effort by Bisping after his shock defeat of Rockhold to milk a couple of lucrative more 'freak show' style big money fights, rather than face one of the many killers in the division. He's playing the cards very well if this comes off.

If he is on PPV points which I believe a lot of the champs are, there is no better PPV seller out there than GSP for Bisping to face (only Conor & Ronda rival GSP, and he isn't fighting either of them). The pure fights are obvious in terms of the divisions best fighters, but none of those guys sell in large numbers

Yeah fair play to Bisping, it makes sense. Literally every other MW contender is fighting in November so if he can get through another payday in early December, no one else is losing out.

Edit- I also really dislike Faber. The Jimmie R fight was disgusting and I have no doubt it was deliberate, he was mixing in the low blows too.

If Bisping gets the GSP fight then he's played it like a champ. He's always known how to get paid, and that'll be his retirement nicely dealt with.

After that, especially if it's at 180lbs catchweight, he can 'retire'. Then the big names of 185 can call him out and BAM: actual retirement fight in NYC against Weidman. Where he makes another couple of million.

Strange feelings about Urijah going. I've never liked him but his existence was always interesting. He was a cut above everyone but one person in two UFC divisions - at least he got to hold the WEC belt. But it must be so weird being a Faber, or Benavidez, or Fitch. You can beat basically everyone except that one guy.

Bisping GSP would be madness, so many interesting factors. GSP's return, ie: how will he be post USADA despite all his protestations (the supplement landscape is pretty different now), ring rust, massive layoff, octagon jitters and all of that lot. Maybe he'll have thoughts of the Serra upset, maybe he''ll leave his no risk wrestling strategy behind against the bigger Bisping who has quite a good TDD. It could be a one sided Bisping victory, that's where my money would go if I had to bet, but you can't ever count (no pun intended) GSP out.

And yes, Bisping gets the new MMA blueprint, keep the belt as long as you can, go for the fights that do least damage career wise even if you lose them. Just like Conor came out quite well respected the way he handled the 1st Diaz loss, rather than doing a Rousey and running for the hills.

Faber, filthy late career style aside, I cannot put my finger on as a man. I've seen him on plenty of podcasts where he seems a straight shooter, a friendly guy. But I've also seen him in plenty of animal house situations such as on the embeddeds, where him and his TAM crew are surrounded by women in bikinis and acting like American frat boys. Him and Conor did seem to get on reasonably well on their TUF and beyond, despite a little bit of verbal sparring and that strange bathroom wrestling incident. But he is massively irrelevant now title wise, he looked well off the pace against Cruz, and you can't just make money poking top ten ranked fighters on Fox forever.

It would be insane if Bisping got the GSP fight and wins.

His record would read:

GSP -w

Dan Henderson - w

Luke Rockhold - w

Anderson Silva - w

I think he lost against Silva and Hendo too which makes it more brilliant in a way. It's like when Serra won the welterweight belt.

I know what you mean. Have you seen his parents on the embedded vids?

They were exactly like Gaylords in Meet the Fockers.

I totally have Bisping legit beating Anderson and Hendo. But both were old and complacent, forgetting (or not caring) how the sport has worked for a decade.

Bisping got robbed against Sonnen too. But his win against Matt Hamill was a robbery so there's all sorts of karma in there.

I've always thought that, even as a gatekeeper, Bisping should be HoF for his promotion, being from TUF when it mattered, and the UK eyes he brought to the sport. With these wins, and the UFC records he holds (most wins!), he's got to be, for definite.

As long as he stops dropping homophobic slurs repeatedly. Goddamnit, Mike.

Nah, he clearly won in rounds for both of those, especially against Anderson, who I would argue performed a really dirty move with that knee (I know, defend yourself at all times, but there is such thing as class).

He's done brill regardless of those wins anyway. He KO'd Rockhold who beat Weidman, Jacare and Machida. Speaking of which I would have loved to have seen Machida drop to 185lbs sooner. Style wise and attitude he's one of my favourite fighters. I don't really buy him being a roider either; look at his father at his age, the guy was shredded.

To be honest I think it might be bullshit anyway. None of the major news sites are running with it.

Also I was thinking about the (superficially, not necessarily fight-winning) beating Bisping took from Hendo and whether would be in any shape to fight anyway. He got the following suspension-

Michael Bisping: Suspended 180 days or until cleared by a maxillofacial face and head CT scan; minimum suspension 60 days with 45 days no contact for left infraorbital laceration

So UFC 206 is 10th December. Best case scenario, he can start sparring on 22nd November. I don't really know much about how the suspensions work in practice, are they actually adhered to?

I'm guessing he can still hit pads and is probably well rounded enough of a fighter by now that he doesn't need to train for a specific style?

I don't know why he hasn't taken some time off though. I guess he knows that he'll probably lose against the guys ranked just below him. Looking for that money fight before it's too late.
