I see Aldo has finally cracked and requested his release.

You can understand his frustration, the UFC president laying down the law on one hand and then Conor comes along and basically does what he wants.

I can see why Aldo is so mad. He gave the 145lb title legitimacy. Conor comes along, wins, doesn't defend, then goes on a world tour of weight divisions.

Reminds me of the light heavyweight division after Liddell lost. Took a few years for the 205 title to mean anything again.

Conor looks big against Alvarez. I think he knocks him out.

I don't think Alvarez has ever even been KOd, has he? And he's been against some big hitters. He seems more vulnerable to subs.

Part of me wants to see him succeed, as megastars put eyes on the sport and raise the bar. That being said, we might fight out quite soon that he's not anything more special (fighting wise) than any other 0 defense champ.

Alvarez can operate as a great pressure fighter against the cage, can KO people, and a while back was on a hot streak of subs. He's also had more 5 rounders than you've had hot dinners.

That all being said, out of RDA, Khabib, and Eddie, I also agree that Eddie is Conor's best shot at the belt.

So disgusting that they could shit on such a dominant champ like Aldo.

Conor and Dana has made the UFC a bit of joke now. This relentlessness switching back and forth trying to manufacturer a two division champion.

I honestly hope Eddie just lays on him for 5 rounds and derails their thing again.

Alvarez has only gone the full 5 rounds twice (think someone called him out on it at the 205 presser). However he does have 11 1st round KO / TKOs (Vs Conor's 13), so the fight will likely be short but explosive. Don't blink, I guess.

Conors not a legit two division champion to me. This will be his third fight without defending the belt that would make him a two division champ. WTF.

The thing is that anyone running the promotion really has to make this fight. Not doing so would just leave money on the table. I don't really understand the stance of wanting Conor to lose to take the sport back to legitimacy.  It's never been a pure sport, its always been a promotion. Even the history of it, Pride, the early days of man versus giant, James Toney vs Couture, it's littered with this crazy stuff.

Getting rid of Conor and going back to the old 100k win 50k bonus paydays for champs would be like disbanding the Premier League and going back to the old division 1, with no more Sky TV, back to videprinter score updates at 4.45. What a lot of the fighters seem to refuse to understand is that he's raising the game for everyone, money wise, exposure wise, presentation wise, the whole lot. I love Jeremy Stephens but my word he got smoked by Conor. Compare their outfits. Stephens had a mismatching Jacket, Trousers and some off the peg cheap shirt combo. Conor is always immacculate, with clothing companies, watch companies all lining up to give him their products to wear.

It's a 50 year old template too, Ali started all of this and we celebrate him. It's exactly the same, a sharp talker with a quick wit is making a mockery over all of these simple sluggers, these "I'll fight who ever the UFC wants" types. Even if you're tuning in to watch him lose, you're still tuning in.  I showed my mother the 205 press conference, I've shown her his fights before, and she agreed with me, having seen it before herself with Ali. Conor just runs the show, he's hilarious.

I agree he's taking MMA to the next level, not in terms of ability, purely in terms of how well he talks / promotes. He's Chael Sonnen 2.0 with a better fight IQ.

I do think Conors due a big fall though as he isn't at the skill level of Anderson Silva / GSP. It's just a matter of time before this happens imo.

Much older, Ali borrowed his shtick from pro-wrestling.

Maybe not invented, but popularised.

I'd not underestimate Conor, he said something in the 205 conference I liked. When Alvarez questioned his cardio, he pointed out that he just beat a triathlete who was 30 pounds heavier, over 5 rounds (exaggeration by Conor but I take his point, Nate is naturally heavier and looked much bigger).

I always thought Ali's shtick was more Jack Johnson than it ever was Gorgeous George.

I do agree with Angel and Steve though. Conor is so far ahead of everyone else at promoting himself atm its scary.

Case in point last night - Fake Cowboy misses weight by about 5lb, lands numerous 12-6 elbows without any sanctions, then scores a late KO and decides to follow it up with assorted taunting just for good measure. I'm not a massive fan of Brooks but if you miss weight by that much you suck up the insults and try and be humble. What a dick.

I came into this fight wanting to see Lineker lose, but after the 3rd round I was cheering for him. Usually I don't mind this kind of style (Alex, Gus, Silva) where a guy will back up and then counter, but, Dodson was just sliding sideways and not doing much countering. If you're gonna back up the whole fight you need to be doing some nice damaging counters to justify it IMO.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer fellow, really.

Materla is legit though. At least not for someone that is watching something more then UFC. And as you may, or may not know he was a main sparingpartner for Luke Rockhold for his last camp, and will be for his next
