I think you guys are underestimating Sage more than little abit here. Gall has had three pro fights, none of the guys he fought have won a single pro fight. The combined record of his opponents is 0-3.

Sage's opponents have actually won a few fights including winning records. He would be a huge step up for Gall and a step to far imo. Think Sage lights him up on their feet.

Well his dad says he is getting over a staph infection that has hospitalised him so there is noway he will be ready for UFC 205 in Nov.

Could be that.

He's already used that one though when he lost to Barbareno, I think his dad is coddling him. Especially when pics surfaced of him being absolutely fine 2 days after he refused it.

So creepy.

Sages dad has groomed him to be an 'athlete' like some nutcase pushy parent who was never good enough themselves so lives through their off springs accomplishments.

His dad even put a bet on that he'd make the NFL when he was two that would have netted him a million dollars.

God knows what sort of bizarre supplements he's been feeding sage since birth.

Why'd you think he's refused the fight then?

Because Sage doesn't have the sway to turn down fights yet, but he does know that the Gall fight gets him nothing. Or, at least, nothing good.

If he wins, he beat a 3-0 semi-pro who is ranked much lower than him. If he loses? Then the lustre takes a further dent.

I'm not sure I follow you here, you mean he doesn't have the sway so he got his dad to do it as his manager, is that right?

I agree, Sage is in a lose-lose if he fights Gall. Especially with all the rumours of him just being fed cans at the gym, them valuing him looking good every day over getting beaten up in a tough gym but learning.

Yeah, losing that would probably see him cut. The UFC have a team that trawls all of the MMA sites and social media aswell, so they will have instantly seen him absolutely fine on instagram 2 days later. He's on a fortune too compared to some, he's on $50k show $50k win right now.

Interesting fight as I assumed on limited viewings of Alvarez that he was a smothering wrestler, much like Chad Mendes. His last fight though where he smoked RDS put that theory on hold a bit though.

Conventional wisdom has a wrestler being a bad match for Connor, and Mendes was doing very well until he gassed. Level McGregor at now though there aren't any easy fights.

Another good test for him though and a fight I'm looking forward to seeing.

I've always seen Alvarez as the prototypical wrestleboxer, which is a great combo. He's more vulnerable to a sub game than a standup game though, so Connor will need to work hard. Alvarez has done tons of five rounders.

Still, really glad to see Eddie get the biggest payday of his life after Rebney and co. stopped him being able to earn for so long.

Finally caught up with 203. Dat crowd for the main event!

Punk was kind of sad and kind of inspiring. Brought to mind all the keyboard warriors (not here I hasten to add) I read saying shit like, 'I'd do better than X' or 'X is a pussy' or whatever. No, no you really wouldn't. Gall is a kid with potential yet he absolutely ruined a guy that's fairly strong (years on the pro wrestling circuit) who's had a crash course in MMA. Sure a higher grade of belt might have been able to fend for longer, but all but a very small section of Joe Public would get made into mincemeat by most of the UFC roster. After that match the respect I have for fighters went up a few notches - obviously we know these guys are good, but when you see the gulf in class so blatantly, it makes you realise just how good they are.

Glad Stipe won, and still not sure why Browne wasn't stopped on a TKO? The less said about Tarverdyan the better, and post-fight scuffles are thankfully rare but do admit to enjoying seeing him getting punted.

Any legit news source for that ?

I can't find anything tbh. Seems unlikely, the reason the UFC signed him in the first place was so Bellator did'nt get him.

They still have him under contract and if he wants to fight again I'm guessing right now the UFC are trying to figure out what to do with him.

this sums up the UFC dilemma with Punk, he's good for business.

if Punk brings a broader crowd to MMA, who then stick around has he been bad for the sport in general ?

He could be one and done and clearly is a long way short of the caliber required to be on a PPV again any time soon but if UFC wanted to get more from him, have a UFC film crew document a stint in an affiliate / regional league as he attempts to work his way back up to a Fight Night in Chicago. The Embedded style vids are really well done by UFC, and for such a scenario they'd have a ready made story, being sold by a guy who is good on the mic. UFC gets some good Fight Pass footage, and can also shine more light on their developmental leagues, while utilising Punk's value and further supporting his ambition.

That said, while UFC is still short of household names so they'd be daft to risk Bellator swooping in at the minute, I guess they will also feel a need to protect their brand and avoid being labelled as a 'freakshow' again, a tag they've long-since moved away from, back when MMA was still viewed as human cock fighting. Putting Punk in the farm leagues is somewhat responsible but would also depend on Punk's ego and whether he really wants to prove himself, or is just looking for perform in a decent-sized arena before his star fades. The average Bellator attendances are comparable to WWE / NXT house show crowds, some of the bigger PPVs on a par with a Raw live show, so if it's the latter, he could achieve that ambition with them.
