The roughest part was when Punk got taken down and was rabbit punching while Gall was properly striking straight through his guard.

I'll give CM Punk credit for stepping into the octagon, but he was never going to win. Not unless the UFC got the can of all cans to step in there with him. Joe Rogan would easily beat up CM Punk. And Joe's smart enough to know he wouldn't stand a chance against a professional MMA fighter with the advantage of youth.

Punk does deserve a lot of credit.  He got in there despite all the naysayers and (regardless of the outcome) it gave us insight into how an average guy would get on in the UFC.

I'm getting irritated by all these wrestling fans mentioning Lesnar in the same breath. Lesnar is not an average joe, he's 6'3, 300lbs of muscle, a division 1 wrestler and he played Pro football.

I think wrestlers are tough but it's a different type of tough. Lesnar compared wwe to being like a stuntman which seems about right from when I watched (attitude era); it takes balls to jump off a steel cage onto your back, but as Bruce lee famously said ' boards don't hit back. '

Yep, never doubted how physically tough pro wrestling is (I have seen THAT Louis Theroux) but didnt know you could excel at it without a competition wrestling background, always assumed it was based on something of a wrestling background.

in reality the stuntman analogy is bang on, a live action stuntman working a 150 nights a year.

Nice read. He's spot on about Browne being a dirty fighter and generally just a cunt. Between Browne and his/ Ronda's 'trainer' Tarverdyan you've got battering a woman x2, fraud, lying under oath x3, theft x2, and probably a ton of other shit we don't know about. They are the vermin of MMA for sure.

Agreed, but I'm amazed Faber gets such a free ride when it comes to that sort of shit. That was as intentional an eye poke as I've seen in a long time (I seem to recall him doing the same in another fight relatively recently but I can't put my finger on it) and the low blow seemed suspiciously accurate too. It seems like he just throws his toys out of the pram when he knows he's losing.

Edit: heh. Finger. Pun not intended.

what I have learned from this though with Punk is that I had always assumed all the WWE guys had a high level of competition wrestling in their background somewhere, like college, olympic etc

he didn't seem to have even that

A few will have legit wrestling backgrounds but not as many as you'd imagine. It tends to be either bodybuilders who just looked the part (less so nowadays), kids who grew up wanting to be pro wrestlers or people with various backgrounds in other sports. (mainly NFL/college football but there are even two former goalkeepers in the WWE training program)

The number of people in WWE who have legit sports backgrounds has decreased a lot since Jim Ross got fired a few years back, he was very keen on scouting wrestlers with legit sporting backgrounds or athletes who were not yet in the business and convincing them to be involved with the business.

I could probably make a list of post 1995 pro wrestlers who were athletes before becoming wrestlers (not all due to Jim Ross but still involved with WWE at some point).

Spoiler

Brock Lesnar (amateur wrestler)

Charlie Haas (amateur wrestler)

Jack Swagger (amateur wrestler, literally his pro wrestling gimmick)

Dolph Ziggler (amateur wrestler)

Kurt Angle (Olympic wrestling Champion)

The Rock (American Football Player)

Shelton Benjamin (amateur wrestler, roommates with Brock Lesnar at college)

Mark Henry (olympic powerlifter)

Ken Shamrock (MMA, but you already knew that)

Wade Barrett (Bare Knuckle Boxer)

There's always been the John Cena/Randy Orton/CM Punk breed of wrestler who got into the business as wrestlers but for a long time having some kind of background whether it be football or amateur wrestling or shoot-grappling etc has always been a thing people in the business would like to have from their talent, it makes everything look more legit.

The broken neck he competed with during the 1996 olympics would have been a big hindrance had he done MMA which is probably why wrestling was a better choice, he now has a bionic neck like but he did pretty well for himself where's in MMA it would have held him back.

I would'nt call Del Rio decent. He was pretty rubbish and only beat cans on small shows. I give him props for getting in with a prime Cro Cop though. That was a great KO.

stevedave plenty of better American Footballers than the Rock have been crushed in MMA. Just being 260 and jacked is no guarantee he can fight.

I absolutely hate faber, the worst of the pokers. He was whooping and making hand gestures after his fight, shouting "Sacramento...love you guys". He's a fake nice guy, a jock poseur who constantly kicks in the groin and paws peoples eyes. He open hand slapped Rivera and literally has given him a fractured retina, something basically causing permanent sight issues..yet he's classlessly whooping and hollering, shouting out his buddies and just being an arse.

Even aside from his general douchebaggery, he's a spent fighter..he has no game plans any more, all he can do is stand flat footed and trade. They need to get rid of him.

The last interesting fight he could have had would have been Dillashaw who I think wrecks him now.

Theres a UFC fight night in Dec in his home town Sacramento he wanted on. I think they might push for that to be his final fight tbh. He is 1-3 in his last 4 and 37 years old.

Faber should get a long suspension and all his earnings from this fight to goto rivera. It was a illegal move done with malicious intent. A vetetan like faber knows what hes doing. Eyepokes of that caliber are more dangerous than fighting a juiced opponent so it should be punished accordingly

I'd love to see him beat Sage. I don't think Gall is ready at all, but I like the idea of him running with the randomness of the CM Punk fight to build his career. Plus I really dislike Sage Northcutt (WTF sort of name is that!?). He's like a science experiment created by his weirdo sted head dad.

Edit:

Sages dad has already turned down the fight citing an ' infectious disease ' yet two days ago sage posted a pic of himself jacked at the gym and going mud riding in a jeep. I believe this might be the very definition of ducking someone.

If someone told me a month ago Sage Northcutt would be ducking a challenge from Mickey Gall I'd say who? oh yeah him fighting CM Punk lol no chance.

I would, it was an obvious win over punk, and an obvious (but smart) call out.  Northcutt is a poser, Gall would take him to pieces I reckon.
