It's going to be great. I know who I want to win but I've been wrong basically this entire year. -.-

Predictions?

Predictions it is:

Conor v Nate.  I'm going Conor, I love them both, I just feel that with all the resources spent on this by him and the UFC, he will be in ultimate shape, he'll be around 170lbs in the right way with more cardio. I'm saying Conor TKO round 3.

Glover v Antony. I say rumble takes it, he hits like a truck and he's been killing his cardio since the Cormier loss, KO round 1.

Rick Story v Cowboy.  Cowboy all the way, he looks fantastic on his way up, only at the top does he falter. Probably late TKO or UD.

Prediction for the main event: Diaz wins via submission again.

I love watching McGregor (indeed he's one of the reasons I've developed a wider interested in MMA) but just keep coming back to the 1st fight and can't see what he will have improved enough to avoid a repeat. Nate's base cardio and ground game is superior, his striking is comparable and he has a granite chin. Conor has fearsome power at 145, and probably 155, but although he wobbled Nate, he wasn't close to knocking him out last time around, and don't think he has a hope if doing so at 170. As soon as Diaz connected with big shots, Conor was rattled, and eventually went for a desperate takedown that only served to deliver his neck on a silver platter (or more specifically, a blood-stained canvas).

If Conor has upped his cardio, maybe he can grind down Nate to a TKO or decision, but as much as he likes to call him a punchbag with eyes, Nate is as durable as fighters come and also hits back with some potent strikes. Think these will set up a takedown and that will be that. What happens after that will be incredibly interesting.

Don't forget it's not a real 170 fight, those guys come into the cage approaching 200lbs, Nate and Conor will probably step into the ring at 170 and a few lbs, if that. I still see it as a 155 fight with no pressure on making the weight. Conor will still have pop against Nate, where against Lawler it would resemble a dwarf attacking a golem.

I forgot how bad he looked at 145lbs. I don't think anyone wants to see this Conor again.

Yeah but that has been one of his key advantages in his career so far - his ability to make weight. Weight seems to have such a significant advantage in MMA and his ability to get away with those insane cuts gave him a big leg up against a lot of opponents. I think Nate will win simply because even though Conor has had more time to adjust to a heavier weight, Nate is more natural at that weight. I really think it will go the same way as the first fight. Would love to be proved wrong though.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Remember Jon Jones vs Shogun/Machida? Neither of them belong in the same weight class as Jones. Utter madness.

When they finally do something properly about weight cutting (same day, weekly weigh ins ala boxing) so many champs will be gone.

The end of that press conference was mental. Nate stormed out for no reason, then him, Nick and his entourage started hurling water bottles at the stage, then Conor started hurling them back. Dana was like fuck this mess "shows over folks".

Anyone still not hyped yet?.

Not super hyped actually. I'm going to watch it of course, stay up have a drink like I said. But it's not like the Aldo fight..that felt like a real event, can he back up all of the talk? What a payoff that one was, at 6am, bouncing off the walls.  This is more like a silly grudge match that backs up the division for a year.  I mean, interim belt when then champ isn't even injured? It's a bit daft.

I've never minded Nick Diaz (I think he genuinely has a lot of issues) but the put on gangsta nonsense Nate comes out with is really grating. I'm now in the camp that wouldn't mind seeing Conor get the KO.

Reminds me of this burn from the last time:

"I like Nick's little bro, I do. I honestly like Nick's little bro. I mean, how can you not like him? He's like a little cholo gangster from the hood, but at the same time he coaches kids' jiu-jitsu on a Sunday morning and goes on bike rides with the elderly. He makes gang signs with the right hand and animal balloons with the left hand. So you're a credit to the community."

As for the fight, nothing's changed for me. Hoping for Conor win but distinctly de-hyped at the moment. Not sure why everyone is losing their shit over the presser, it's not exactly DC/Jones is it?

I agree. They should call it the 'Yoel Romero defence' at this point.

I don't think the UFC are daft enough, and Dana certainly doesn't give Jones any leeway. If they're found in his supplements, that's that, USADA are no mugs. Listen to some of Chael Sonnens stories on them for evidence of that.

They were estrogen blockers not steroids, sure some steroid users take them to kickstart testosterone but they can't cheat the system by running out and buying some supplements with them in. Tainted supplements might sound a cop out, but it is totally common, the market is unregulated, cross contamination is real. Like I say..you can't fool USADA, Novitsky and so on by just popping down to Superdrug and claiming tainted. He'll have to fully declare everything used and they'll go through it.

It basically IS his fault, but more in that he was cheap with his supplements, didn't inform USADA fully, didn't pay for any testing and he ingested them himself. If this comes to pass we're looking at 6 months from time of pop, and ready to fight by end of the year.

I agree @angel, UFC have gone far beyond the minimum that they needed to in regards bringing in this drug testing program to clear up the sport and to protect not only its reputation but the fighters themselves (PEDs allowing them to hit harder for longer are not good for fighter brain trauma, not to mention the damage they may be doing to themselves in taking them).

I don't think for a minute with the lengths and costs that they've gone to bringing all this in that they'd be complicit in aiding any fighter to clean up a positive result and fudge it to a minor slap on the wrist.

Its actually an area where I think they are taking a very sensible long term view in cleaning up the sport, whatever the short term pains are in terms of messed up cards and fighters getting caught.

Yep, sums it up, it's cost UFC money but it's given them an integrity you can't put a value on (weird occasional match ups and title shots not withstanding). Jones will be ready to fight in December, probably versus DC near the new year would be my guess.
