Official Mixed Martial Arts Thread

Took me til weds to catch up with ufc on fox (terrible), knew somethng was going down in MMA as this thread kept updating. Be nice to see Bisping win this weekend, Anderson's turned out to be a flat earth denier as regards his cheating, his manager even phoned bispings coach to ask him to stop mentioning it (source: arial and mike on mmafighting walking through london). The Conor thing is weird, depends which Nate shows up, he was a world beater last time out and versus Cowboy, sometimes he's so on, but sometimes (vs RDA) he looks like he doesn't belong. Strange it being at 170, and Nate walks around a lot bigger than you'd expect these days. There's a slight chance he subs Conor if he's not careful. I think Tate might upset Holm too with a sub of some sort. Interesting fortnight.

It's bullshit this card not being on bt sport btw.

Yep. There is no reason for it apart from greed on the UFC's part. Surely BT's deal is for every event?

As bad as the Premier League are, you wouldn't catch them pulling a game from the schedule a week prior and putting it behind their own personal paywall.

That's actually disgusting.

'Exclusive fights for the UFC right here on BT!!!!'

I use a stream and I actually have a legit bt login, its just easier. PM anyone who wants it.

Its not entirely un dodgy, its one of those bloody hunt the tiny X's to close the ads, but its pretty reliable, i've used it to watch all fight pass and main cards for the last 9 months or so.

I thought mike was more active in 4 and didnt take any damage really, it was that cut from the knee giving a bit of a false impression.  If he hadnt fucked up looking to herb and taken the knee, he'd have taken it even more so, that was a really dumb error. Kind of a little bit dirty from silva I thought too...he knew he was trying to get his mouthpiece.

Yes, agreed. I was reading a few people say a draw was fairer and I'd go with that too.

I've always been more for scoring damage done / significant strikes over volume as I believe point fighting is what ruined boxing -hug, jap, hug jab. It's boring and obviously has far worse long term effects.

really enjoyed the Bisping fight, I gave him the first 2 clearly then the next 3 get messier to score, Anderson has always had this style where he can appear to totally switch off whilst on top and think he really let Lisping off the hook by throwing nothing at the start of 4. I didn't think the knee was that dirty actually, was all split second in that he was winding it up, then Bisping looked away and the buzzer went.

think we've had the damage/scoring debate in here before and I never know how that actually works in practice in a close fight, if say one fighter has a swollen eye and the other has a bad cut which scores more ? How do you compare a badly bruised thigh from leg kicks to facial damage ? Clearly last night Bisping didn't look like somebody who had won a fight, but it was far closer than the damage would indicate.

for what its worth I'd have nudged it to Silva but wouldn't have argued with a draw and don't think its by any means a travesty, very close fight.

Rockhold murders both of them in the same night.

Anderson switched off in the 4th so you have to give it Bisping. He might not have done anything significant but he was working the whole round, Silva did nothing until the end of the round. I'm with Angel. 1,2 and 4 to Bisping.

There's no way it was a draw. You can't change the system just cause one fighter does more damage in one round. The 3rd cant be a 10-8 either as Bisping was winning that round until the last 30 secs.

Anderson only has himself to blame. He could have finished it at any point in the last two if he'd have gone for it.

Definitely the right decision for me, and a thoroughly entertaining fight.

In a way, it gives Bisping the career vindication he deserves, without giving him massive relevance in the division. Silva is probably either going to retire or do exhibitions where people hope to see him uncork something spectacular.

I assumed that I'd feel short-changed by the fight in some sense, but I don't at all.

Mousasi, on the other hand... yes, he made Leites look like garbage, but he really can't pull the trigger in the UFC. Put him in there with some more really violent HWs (Romero on return?), and push him.

McGregor has the fabled 'points on the PPV' deal with the UFC and whoever he fights he shifts over a million of them, with that and sponsorships I'd imagine he's piling it in at the moment, and good luck to him too, he actually sells fights and generates money so nice to see he's getting a good cut of it.

People like DJ and Cain (to name a couple) simply don't deserve to earn big as they just don't draw income, DJ barely scraps a hundred thousand PPVs and think Cain Werdum only did about 300k.

Nailed it. His style just doesn't translate to decisions,  he's always looking for the spectacular KO and not throwing much in between. He gave Bisping a 2 round head start, if he hadn't got that knee who knows how it would have ended. No real controversy on the decision in my opinion.

The Pickett fight on the other hand was a proper robbery. Embarrassing.

Only if rockhold loses, and even then doubtful.

This upcoming week is getting too much for me to stomach already. I've watched C Macs fights live every time since the start, I was cheering him KOing mendez, then absolutely going mental at 5am when he smashed aldo, but I'm just not feeling it lately. I know hes a star, I read a lot, but actually seeing some youtube vids of him being escorted through crowds of people, seeing him perform interviews with glazed eyes spouting his rhetoric, it's all getting a bit too over the top for me now. I think he could well be in danger of losing, maybe not to Diaz, but soon. He's got that textbook Rousey perceived invicibility about him. Supporting him doesnt feel like a pleasure now, it makes me feel like I'm feeding the ego and hype machine. I dont think I'll be all that sorry if he loses.
