That was all kinds of brutal. Robbies lip and Rorys... er... face. Have to wonder how many wars like this he's got left in him. Robbie is a freak athlete though.

Conor looked absolutely giant next to mendes. They didn't even look in the same weight class. I'd be very surprised if mendes isn't mentally broke ater this. Two losses to Aldo and now a loss to conor. Maybe a drop to 135lbs is on the horizon.

Again I'm a complete MMA noob but I would have liked to see the Conor fight go another round. Chad looked tiny compared to Conor and I guess I'm used to supporting the underdog as I found myself cheering him on every time he grabbled Conor to the ground. Still what a win for Conor you can't argue that he doesn't back up all the talk. The hype train goes on.

every fight was superb in its own way - Lawler v MacD started quite slowly as they were feeling each other out then just became one of the most brutal championship fights I can recall watching - MacDonald actually looked disfigured at the end, almost Cigano levels of grotesque. Hear it said afterwards that it was the kind of fight that changes people and wouldn't be surprised if both of them had several fights taken off their remaining career because of it.

Conor did look excellent on his feet, almost showing disdain for Mendes' stand up - he peppered him with great kicks and shots, I do think that Mendes blew it though, I wouldn't want to watch it but he was so dominate that he could have just ground Conor into the mat with elbows and his top game, Conor only escaped when Mendes pushed things looking for a sub.

Dana White claimed afterwards this was the top card they've ever done financially, topping even the legendary UFC 100 card headlined by Brock Lesnar and anything GSP did. Anybody who gets to fight Conor is guaranteed a payday, he's a one man hype machine and if he can generate that level of sales the UFC will hope he stays on his winning run for some time, nobody else at present comes close to his level of mass market appeal.

I also don't think the way this card turned out is a fluke, the level of interest and crowd ferocity Conor generates carried the whole card to this level of epicness.

He really is. My two flatmates who give zero shits at all about mma (ones a cricket guy, the other football) started asking about mma and how conor will do. My opinions changed somewhat as my usually response was ' Aldo should destroy him'. Given his massive size advantage though I think he stands a good chance of beating him now. He'll have over a stone on aldo come fight night.

Even Sky Sports and BBC Sport were making articles and posting about him on Facebook. They haven't given a shit about it before.

Do you think we'll see the Aldo fight this year?

End of the year probably, if not Jan I reckon.

Its going to be huge.

Still very impressed with Mendes and the sportsmanship he showed.

You'd want to see the mcgregor effect here in Ireland. I was just in Iceland getting some ice cream and the chick at the till says to me, completely unprompted "were you watching the mcgregor fight last night? Everyone's buzzing off it today."

As for the fight itself, usually I'd watch them on my own the next day or whatever, but I was out last night and arranged to show it on a projector in a room upstairs in a club after closing on the qt. There was probably 20 people there, most of whom had never really watched much mma, but everyone knew about Conor. It was a total blast, huge fun. Knackered today though.

BTW - if you pay for the stream on ufc.tv, you don't get the prelims! Stingy bastards.

The build to Aldo vs Conor is going to be even more mental now. If this fight beat 100's profit that fight will smash it.

Really chuffed for Robbie but felt bad for Rory by the end. He fought so well but Robbie caved his face in. The staredown between them at the end of the 4th was amazing.

Rest of the main card was fantastic. I know the show is pretty much dead but get Conor and Aldo on The Ultimate Fighter. That would get me watching it again.

Hard to believe that night happened to be honest. Unbelievable atmosphere.

This was my view of the cage. Place was absolutely nuts afterwards.

I need to watch the card again though, hard to take in everything when you're there. Was fucking terrified when Mendes got his takedowns.

Edit: just remembered I was also in the same room as Arnie and Iron Mike last night. Life achievement unlocked :)

Don't think you're close enough, kingpin ;)

Can see Dana White prancing round even. My mate was tenth row and he said you could hear Rory yelp when Lawler landed that bomb. I'm dubious as it must be mega loud unless they pipe up the ring audio?

Yeah, it's crazy. I'm in Crumlin and everywhere I went yesterday (fish shop, butchers, fruit & veg) people were talking about.

It's noisy but it sounds noisier on TV. I had the little radio thing so I could hear commentary and that thing made the room sound much noisier than it really did as it picks up everything. You can definitely hear stuff from the cage like the slap from a leg kick etc.

That was crazy. Was completely out of breath after the Lawler/MacDonald fight, it had everything. So glad Robbie won. Apparently it was 3-1 Rory on the cards, can't say I agree but that's judges for you.

Mendes/Conor was good too. Mendes had the upper hand on the ground but even though he was occasionally catching Conor standing up it was only a matter of time before the reach came into play. Bring on Aldo...
