I presume that is the last we will see of Silva in the UFC. Awful way to go out. Talk about damaging your legacy.

Will it be though? UFC has shown it is willing to gloss over drug failures if the fighter is important enough. It'll probably be changed to a no contest, he'll get a year ban and after that it'll be as if nothing happened.

It was strongly rumoured he was seriously contemplating retirement anyway so I'm guessing this is it. What was left for him anyway? Beyond a so called super fight with a semi retired GSP, not a lot.

Just about everything in regard to the UFC, from the very top to the bottom needs severely overhauled. They can barely put on credible events on consistently and the PED problem is gathering momentum. They are between a rock and a hard place having big name fighters banned but having stretched themselves so thin I have little sympathy.

Bendo has his 170 debut (supposedly a one off) against Thatch this weekend. Thatch seems to be a reasonably bad man, so it should be fun. Thatch is also a tall WW at 6'2, so we should see how Bendo deals with being small in a division - even against (what seems to be at this point) lesser-skilled opposition.

Also, Manheof vs Shlemenko in Bellator. Would expect Shlemenko to batter the one-dimensional Melvin, but you can't sleep on Melvin's striking...

Would love to see Melvin start taking things seriously and pop over to 170 in the UFC for a second Lawler fight.

I reckon Silva's been juicing his whole career. Got the Maia fight on at the mo, just watching him move, superhuman. Even if there's no retroactive proof, his whole history of fighting comes into question.

Wouldn't be surprised if Aldo was on gear, too. Don't think he is but the way he moves.

Wiedman is def' suspect in my eyes.

I don't think that Thatch came out of the fight looking bad either - it was win/win from a promotional standpoint. Thatch is marketable, but needs a little more seasoning. Not that falling behind in a 5-rounder to Bendo is anything to be ashamed of. Bendo will have some trouble with the better grapplers at WW though, if Thatch's early ragdolling of him is anything to go by,

Holloway looked alright, but will need to look better against Miller-level opposition if he's going to advance.

That HW fat catchweight bout was fucking awful. Reminded me of the Rob Broughton/Phil DeFries matchup.

Manhoef/Shlemenko finished as expected - too many miles on Manhoef's clock. Shlemenko looked ok, but Bellator MWs are always so small. Makes it hard to imagine they'd compete at anything above 170 in the UFC.

Speaking of Holloway (who I think has loads of potential), I don't see him getting past Cub in his next fight. Big step up in competition for him but on his streak, he deserves a top ten guy.

Bendo was really impressive I thought but Thatch was so poor after he got taken down. Giving up his back so easily to a black belt of Henderson's quality is a terrible move. Still, I agree about it not being a terrible result for him, I look forward to his next fight.

Thatch ground game wasn't great, you could tell he was trying to escape from the position but landed himself in a worst one. Just small openings like that for someone like Bendo is all they need.

Plus Bendo and toothpick...again??!!.

Still the best fight I've seen so far this year though, was proper back and forth.

I secretly love the toothpick thing, it's amazing how a guy can be so ludicrously cool until he opens his mouth (to talk I mean, not to put a toothpick in).

I honestly thought Thatch would smash Benson due to the size difference.

Personally it wasn't one of the best fights this year, but like I stated I'm mega happy Benson finally got a win.

That toothpick is crazy, its an old boxing technique but its also incredibly dangerous for himself. Still I agree, he's one bad mofo.

Benson often has a toothpick in between his teeth out of the ring and on Saturday, as well as in the Nate Diaz fight, he actually had it in during the fight. He tends to hide it until he gets a bit cocky, or until there's a break in action.

It seems to be his thing, but I'd certainly hate to see him catch it in his throat or something. Maybe it helps him keep his jaw tight or something.

Been looking at the upcoming events... UFC 184 is looking pretty weak after the Weidman/Belfort and Jacare/Romero cancellations. Rousey/Zingano could be interesting but then there is a barely ranked women's co-main (as an aside, is that the first main/co-main women's combo in a UFC event?) and Ellenberger vs Koschek. Bleurgh.

I think you're confusing "steroids" with "the star from Mario Bros".

That's not to say that tons of fighters aren't on PEDs, but using 'movement' as evidence is Angel-grade nonsense.

i thought we were discussing things normally here but you have to go and be condescending again. just get lost, basically, youve got no class.

Your condemnation is about as close to a Seal of Correctness as the Universe can muster. I thank you for it.

I'd make reference to what other people seem to be noticing about you, dear Angel, but you've already got your attention fix for the day.

On a much more interesting note, Anderson failed his post-fight test too. It's as if everything's gone into stasis/extreme denial surrounding the topic and nothing has really moved on from it. I'm not really disappointed in the guy, as I expect that many of my favourite fighters have used PEDs in their careers, but it's like the MMA world has temporarily stopped a little.

Faber/Edgar got announced, which is a really interesting fight. It looks like it'll be at 145 (though both were offered a 135 shot at TJ, apparently), and is probably the second biggest fight you can make at that weight. Would've easily been first had it not been for MacGregor bringing more eyes onto the division.

After MacGregor/Aldo, the biggest fights in the division will all be MacGregor/whoever. Unless he gets repeatedly battered.
