A lot of pros are exactly the people who will end up brain damaged from bad reffing. There are pros who say that any fight they lost by TKO was too early.

No point letting em bang, bro, if they can't even write their own names in 5 years, dude.

The Hendo stoppage is no real comparison - he wasn't definitely out, and was already working a single when Mousasi 'pulled' those punches. I like Mousasi a lot, but none of his last 3 landed properly. Gus got utterly beasted for far too long.

I thought the hendo stoppage was bad when I first watched but on a second viewing hendo was definitely out but Mousasi had already stopped punching looking at the ref.

Also, the stoppage pretty much saved hendos eye according to the doctors. We know hendos tough but he needs to hang it up. That fight could have ended so horribly. He would have been KO'd and potentially lost sight completely in his eye.

How did the stoppage save Hendo's eye? What was the situation? (I think I missed something pretty dramatic there)

Looking forward to Anderson's return, and the fact that he doesn't seem to believe that a win over Diaz (an unranked non-middleweight who is arguably not even a top 5 WW) should get him a title shot. And he's right.

Also: Tate/McMann, and McCall/Lineker. I hope that putting Co-Main level fights as Prelim mains is working out for them, because it's annoying having thinner cards as a result, and having to juggle several events to see the fights I'm most interested in.

wow, Gastelum has missed weight by 9lbs and Woodley still taken the fight (Gastelum fined 30%) - that is a big risk for Woodley as its a big weight miss - stories about Gastelum doing the cut and his body packing up so they needed to rehydrate him

also Weidman out of 184 with a rib injury, but Dana White saying Vitor may still be fighting on card

Then he had surgery the next day. More punishment on that eye and it could have been it.

Weidman has now pulled out of more fights than he's been in apparently.

really don't know what the answer is to the weight cut situation at present (it must be the same in boxing) - fighters come to the scales like wrung out sponges then spend 24h soaking back up more than a stone of fluids in some cases.

I know that they 24h in advance weigh in was a response to fighters coming to the ring dehydrated and getting brain injuries

only thing I can think of is that they have to maintain the weight for a longer period, so you have in effect 2 weigh ins, meaning people have to fight in their correct weight classes - even do this 36h in advance and on fight day would stop the situation at present

gastalum sounds in prime fighting shape http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/1/31/7955765/coach-kelvin-gastelum-was-hospitalized-friday-isnt-100-percent

Woodley was very kind about it. Someone else missed weight didnt they? Lineker missed weight and McCall was pissed. If I were Woodley Id be extremely peaved. Especially given how much he missed.

Anyway, good card so far!

The chap Thiago just fought looked wicked! I was willing him to get the win after that forward roll though - bit cocky after that decent performance in the first round.

Im really waiting on the main event. Im like #DIAZ #209 #DONTBESCAREDHOMIE but I think Im going to be disappointed. Excuse my faulty apostrophe key.

good card that, enjoyed the prelims too.

Meisha Tate fight was excellent.

Glad Gastallum lost after the weight fiasco, but Woodley didn't look great in winning.

Anderson looked very tentative, which I guess is understandable after the injury, he seemed to warm up as it went on though. Anybody notice how his left leg was noticeably smaller and atrophied to the right, it was quite visable.

All well and good Diaz trash talking and lying down, but he didn't really bring much offensively and thats 3 losses on the spin now,

Dana White said in press conf that Machida agreed to take the Belfort fight but Vitor rejected it (having said get me a fight on the card the other day)

I'm disappointed Diaz didn't throw much. His speciality is sheer volume but he didn't do a lot for the majority of the fight. Both looked rusty and that's to be expected.

The Mein fight was crazy. Beat the crap out of your opponent and then get finished by a stomach kick? Unusual!

I'd seen the picture, but it still doesn't explain the situation. Mousasi landed one shot near that eye, and 3 glancing ones nowhere near it. It's a stretch to say that he saved anyone's eye with an early stoppage, especially since Hendo didn't visibly react to the eye injury.

Anderson looked pretty good against a guy who is impossible to put away, and there was next to nothing in the size difference. Although there didn't look to only be an inch between them, height-wise. Diaz's trolling about winning, or criticising anyone else for running/not engaging is just moot and boring now. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of MW feature fights (possibly Bisping), but I hope Dana stops spoiling him by giving in to his demands.

Alves's body kick on Mein was brutal, but he'd taken a beating up until then. I think Mein probably wins that one 9 times out of 10, but you just cannot sleep on Pitbull's power.

Tate looked...alright. It's a 50/50 fight, but the third round could well be seen as a 10-8.

Lineker looked great, though he should probably have been a bit more humble about his weight. I suspect that he'll prove too small for BW.

Woodley almost made a fan of me with his post-fight speech, but I just don't enjoy watching him. Here's hoping the loss brings us a new, motivated Gastelum, as he's probably MW-bound, and will likely prove too small there, too.

Yeah Anderson/Diaz was disappointing but in hindsight it's not really that surprising. Silva was never going to go all out to stop someone like Diaz, and Diaz looked out of his depth. There was a hilarious spinning back kick in round 4 or 5 which looked in slow motion, it was painful. I don't know how big a draw Diaz actually is but his fights have been so one-sided recently and for all his 'wolf tickets' chat, he has done nothing to actually attempt to win these fights apart from fuck about and play to the crowd. I know he says he only wants big fights but a few more losses and he'll be a freakshow brawler in the Diego Sanchez/ Leonard Garcia / Joe Lauzon category, he has nothing to challenge the elite guys anymore.

Woodley/Gastelum was pretty crap but I was really impressed by Iaquinta, this kid is going to be big! Oh and on the weight cut issue, I read that Lineker just decided to stop cutting a couple of days before the weigh in and just accept the fine. What a prick. And I think it's like the 5th time he's done it now!

Diaz Bisping is a hell of an idea.

In theory. In practice, Bisping will back off and pick his pitter patter shots, and Diaz will gurn and swing his hands by his waist trying to goad him in. Repeat for 25 minutes. Unanimous decision for Bisping.

The build up would be amazing though.

Bisping is fighting Shogun at a catchweight next. :) Can't wait for that. Shogun finally moving (slowly) to 185lbs.

Think of it this way. His eyelid was torn in half. If the fight had carried on and Mousasi had landed it would have been a mess. Hendo said he couldn't see.

I don't know how they stop this from happening in future. Change the gloves maybe?

Be after that then. I know Bisping accepted the fight on twitter when shoguns manager said he wanted the fight. Either way I just want to see shogun win a few then retire. I don't think he's got a title run in him but it'd be nice to see him go out on a positive note.
