Surprise, surprise, Wanderlei is out of the UFC 175 fight against Chael Sonnen. Missed a drug test and failed to apply for a Nevada licence.

It's one of the 3 fights that's been on my UFC radar (Gus-Jones and Vitor-Weidman being the others). I'm disappointed. I seriously laughed out loud when, having read it on a Bleacher Report Facebook announcement, this popped up:

Wand was brill in Pride smashing cans but as soon as he came over to the us and started getting plastic surgery, wondering around with the rocky hat on (?) and being everyones friend you knew he'd lost it.

He's become a primadonna, as he ironically called vitor for 'avoiding' him. Really Wand? he nearly killed you first time and now you suddenly think you'll do better against ultra vitor?

NO.

Thanks for the memories, don't do a tito.

On the other hand: http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2014/5/30/5765188/ufc-wanderlei-silva-posts-video-statement-regarding-removal-mma-news

"Last Saturday, a guy showed up at my gym with several papers in English saying that I had to sign the papers. I asked him if all the documents were written in English and he said yes. He did not show me any identification. So I told him that I can't read English very well and I would need my lawyer present to able to sign any documents. Then I had to leave since it was the day of Barao's fight and I was very busy here in Vegas."

He also says since the fight isn't until July he was going to sort things like licenses after getting back from Brazil this weekend. I don't really know what to think about all this.

It appears to have been a random drugs test and basically instead of hanging around to get somebody to read the papers over and get checked wand got on the plane to brazil.

I think based on this, not signing the contract, not signing a bunch of other fight contracts, he's cycling and knew he couldn't piss clean.

I'm hearing Jones won't sign to fight Alexander. What a huge disservice to the fans and the company.

Saw it linked somewhere that Gustaffson posted on his facebook that he had signed and the contract had been sent to Jones but he hadn't signed it. At the time of that post it was 4 days, that was about a week ago, no news almost certainly means no signature yet

Jones is getting smarter. Now people are willing to pay for 2 contenders who (seemingly) could realistically take him down. Or at least the current hype trains suggest so.

Feuding with Dana in the background can't hurt either. Two big pay days coming up - he either wins then gets the second fight, or loses then gets a bigger money rematch.

I would prefer to see the DC fight first. I'm excited for that match-up but have a bad feeling about it actually happening. Gus beating Jones would delay a DC title shot until at least mid-2015 depending on rematches. Given that Cormier is 35, and Jones is eventually expected to move up a weight class, the window for this fight is a bit tight. We've already seen Gus/Jones and it was a great fight but the Mauler has a longer shelf life than Cormier.

In other news, I've secured my tickets for UFC Dublin in July. Just hope my seats are half-decent, it was a pre-sale allocation thing via my gym. Shame LaFlare is off the card, that fight with Nelson would have been great.

I got one today as well on the newsletter presales after 30 minutes of trying. Ended up being a good but expensive seat. I wanted two of course, so my mate's disappointed and i'm sitting on my own. Ticketmaster are such dickheads. Still, looking forward to it. Kind of glad Brandao is in instead of Miller against McGregor, should be a crazier first round if nothing else.

Fucking hell, one of the worst UFC decisions of all time last night. Ross Pearson battered Diego Sanchez in his hometown for 3 rounds yet somehow Sanchez came away with a split decision win (one judge scored it 30-27!). Not sure whether it's corrupt or just inept, fucking unforgivable either way.

That Pearson decision was a travesty, Sanchez was shit and didn't even have the good grace to shut the fuck up and be a bit humble about being gifted a win.

I know the UFC don't control the judges or rules but need to bring pressure on the 2 things need sorting in MMA, the scoring system and gloves that enable so many pokes

Yeah, that was terrible. Pearson's management have lodged a complaint with the state athletic commission but I doubt that'll result in anything.

Does anyone know who Hednderson was shout at after the fight?

Worst decision ever.

Lost count of how many fights I've seen go to the cards and been like 'WTF' at the judges.

Scoring criteria needs changing - should be damage done, that will stop all these shit decisions - and they need actual mma guys in to judge fights not 60 year old karate instructors from primary schools and arm chair boxers.

As the dudes at sherdog have pointed out over the years, people watching tv are in a better position to judge than these fools. You can see some of them not even watching the fight sometimes and chatting ffs.

This is nothing to do with scoring criteria changing (though that could be a good idea), this is just bad judgement.

It's the kind of decision that makes me want to stop watching for a while - it just removes the sport's legitimacy.

I understand that Sanchez is an exciting fighter (well, was, now is just a brain injury study waiting to happen), and that he's got about a dozen FOTN awards, but he seems to get given gift decisions more often than most. I'm still bitter about the Kampmann one.

On the up side, Bendo and Khabilov had a great fight. Khabilov is as legit as they come, and Bendo got a much needed finish, but the fight was competitive enough to warrant a rematch one day.

I wonder when Nurmagomedov is next fighting? He's even better than Khabilov. 155 is getting very interesting, and it's never been this stacked with legit contenders.

Haven't seen a Cain Velasquez fight since October. This is what sucks about UFC - have to wait over a year to see one of your favourite fighters compete, Bisping's fighting Cung Le in August, Bisping, who's a mainstay but completely boring, and Cung Le who hasn't fought since 2012. Weidman's had a 9 month break since defending his title against Silva. It's crusty.

Velasquez and Weidman have had shoulder and knee surgery recently respectively. And I think Velasquez is now doing TUF with Werdum.

It was easily the biggest win of his career, and I'm really glad that he'll get the chance to build on it.

Dana needs to care less about the locker room bonuses though, and simply start withdrawing events from territories with shit AC judging.
