The Dark Knight Rises - Summer 2012 - New Trailer Post #1230

Johnny Depp as the Ridler sounds good to me, if anyone can live upto Heaths performance as the villian of the rebooted films, it's him.

I strongly disagree here. There is nothing in his filmography that points to him being a good choice for the Riddler (I realise you could argue the same point with regards to Ledger being cast as the Joker). Not only that but he has been rubbish for over a decade now. And before anybody mentions Jack Sparrow I'd like to say that overacted performance is absolutely fine in a film like PotC but it has no place in any of the recent Batman films. Of course he might recapture his form from the '90s that made him one of the most interesting young actors to watch and Nolan might create a Riddler that is suited to him but just because he has a history of playing strange roles does not make him an ideal candidate. There is also the question of him carrying far too much baggage off the back of the PotC trilogy.

I've said it before but if the go with the Riddler then Cassey Affleck seems like the ideal candidate.

What? :) I bet there are currently hundreds of hot Hollywood actresses begging to wear a ridiculously tight catsuit to play that role, and you want to deny me the pleasure of looking at them? A pox on thee, sir!

Hey now. I never said I had a problem with leather-clad temptresses in general, but just that it would seem ridiculous in the "realistic" Nolan films.

I love leather-clad temptresses in general.

I like Mr Freeze (great in the animated movie: SubZero) and I think he could be done semi realistically. I think the best idea is a different take on Knightfall although I wouldn't want to see Bane unless he was radically redesigned. Either that or something based on Arkham Asylum.

The proper Bane is ridiculously intelligent. He's studied all kinds of science shit, speaks multiple languages fluently, has a photographic memory, as well as being hard as fuck.

To all intents and purposes, he's Batman's equal. Only he grew up in a harsh caribbean prison, whereas Batman grew up in a posh house with a butler and shit.

Added to that, both men do what they do because of their Fathers. That would be an interesting similarity to explore if they use the proper Bane in the next film.

No Two-Face for the sequel - Interview conducting by ComingSoon/Superhero Hype

Eckhart laughed about how he tried to ask if there was a chance he was coming back and was good-humored about the deadly fate of Dent.

CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?

Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.

CS/SHH!: So he's not coming back?

Eckhart: He ain't coming back baby!

CS/SHH!: I was hoping he would.

Eckhart: No. I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, "You're dead" before I could even get the question out of my mouth. "Hey Chris, am I?" "You're dead!" Alright, cool.

CS/SHH!: That's not a problem in comic book movies. You could still come back.

Eckhart: I think in contract negotiations it's a problem.

CS/SHH!: So you were never signed on for another film?

Eckhart: No, I'm not coming back. I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn't work out. I'm nobody. I'm a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff. I'm sure that there's so many other characters that they could whip together.

I'll always stick by the idea that Harvey Dent died, not Two-Face, and that's what the funeral for Harvey was all about. Especially since Batman villains always come back.

Still, I'm glad to be spared a full film of the awful CGI half of his face.

I still prefer the idea of Casey Affleck as the Riddler or some villain, he'd be perfect. I think shouts of Depp are a bit poor as he'd essentially be too similar to Heath

Given the immense success of the film I imagine WB will attempt to get him to start a third film...

I think they'll kidnap him, chain him up in a room, and refuse to let him go until he signs up. That's how nailed on the third film is. I can't wait, personally. Nolan will be in that fairly unique position where he can do whatever he wants with whatever budget he wants.

The only mild note of caution is that the Wachowskis had the same blank cheque from Warners for the Matrix sequels, and we all know what they did with it. Let's just hope that Nolan is surrounded by people who know how to say the word "no".

I'm glad they aren't going to bring Joker back. As amazing as Heath was, there are 2 problems: 1 - No one could fill his clownshoes and 2 - Where could the joker character go? TDK implied all he cares about is organised chaos. Another 2 hour film of that would be dull. They kind of backed the Joker into a corner imho. Let Joker lie. THat was an amazing film, an amazing performance and an amazing rendition of Batman's archmemesis. Don't sully it for greenbacks.

Not that odd really. Batman is on the run at the end of TDK so it isn't too much of a leap to assume there will be a price on his head. Plus the parallels between the lives of Deadshot and Batman feeds into what Nolan was doing in the first two films. He probably isn't a big enough name to be the headline villain but I could see him playing a part in the third.

See tha's an excellent idea. I wanted to see Deadshot in the thrid film, not as a main character but as a minor role. That is a perfect setup to bring him in. Batman on the run, big reward.

Also with the Joker, he's obviously in Arkham so to bring in Harely Quinn would be a nice touch. You wouldn't need to see too much of the Joker and have him mold her into doing his bidding

I can't see another one for two or three years.

Still adore Insomnia and The Prestige, so another independent flick would go down a storm.

For a moment there I though you were talking about Bale. It was well confusing.

I think the entire film should reference back to the Joker. Hey you know what would make this film better, when Joker's not around, everyone can stand around and say Hey Where's Joker"

That won't be awkward.

They won't just ignore The Joker, he'll be at the very least referenced in the third film. They could have a few scenes with him in Arkham, either using a combination of cgi/another actor, keeping him silent, or even have him found dead near the start of the movie. I think once the dust settles on The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's death, everyone will be able to accept another actor portraying The Joker as a cameo.

I'd love to see Harley Quinn adapted to this universe as a minor villain, and The Jokers influence over her can be implied and developed without us having to actually see him.

You'll be glad to know I've crossed your name off my list now.

I've always thought The Mad Hatter would work well on film, he's nothing more than a crazy child killing paedo.

Crazy child killing paedo? Other than in that Grant Morrison Arkham Asylum comic, has he ever been portrayed like that? And why would a crazy child killing paedo work on screen, especially in a million billion dollar blockbuster?

From /film

We’re pretty sure some type of “clarification” will be sent out shortly regarding the following statement from Michael Caine, but for now, it’s the first confirmation from someone involved in the Batman franchise about new villains and casting choices. And it’s HUGE. The ubiquitous rumors about Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin will undoubtedly escalate after this. Here’s what Caine told MTV’s Splash Page…

“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make [a sequel to The Dark Knight]?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘Shit, they’ve done it again!’” [Laughs]

Fuck Johnny Depp.

They need a serious actor for The Riddler. I like Depp, but he'd be too big for this role, and too similar to Ledger. It would be camp and hammy.

PSH could be good as Penguin, but the character is fairly boring. It's too soon for me to believe any rumours, even if they fall from Michael Caine's mouth.

Mmm. I'll bet if Nolan makes this he'll be swamped with executive producers telling him who to cast, to be honest. He'll have to be resilient or he'll end up with a comprised mess. PSH only ever plays PSH and Depp? All wrong, in my opinion.

My flatmate said he read an interview with Eckhart where he says that Nolan had the next film mapped out, but with Ledger gone it puts the whole thing into question.

If anyone would rather do no film than a bad film it would be someone like Nolan.
