Memorable gaming speech.

When I was a young un me and my dad used to play a golf game all the time, I can't remember which one it was but I think it might have been a Links game.

Anyway two bits of dialogue that have stuck with me to this day

'Looks like he hit the tree Jim!'

'From my advantage Jim that looks safely on the fairway!'

Can't remember the game either, but I do remember the speech. Amazingly clear considering it all came out of the PC speaker!

Every piece of English speech in SNK arcade games tends to have a certain tragic charm to it. Terry Bogard's "tut tut, GET SERIOUS!", the Metal Slug announcer's "Rocket LAWNCHER", and Geese Howard's "RAAAIZING STORRRM" all stand out as favourites of mine. The theme song from Psycho Soldier is memorable too.

I never knew what the hell they were talking about in the intro to Forgotten Worlds on the Amiga:

"Did you find the guy?"

"I'll finish you today for sure!"

Cheesiest speech is the ultra-camp Ridge Racer announcer (who sounds like he's talking while holding his nose closed), after you finish the race:

"I got it all on camera so you can watch it later, huh? You're the GREATEST!" *Shit happy hardcore music kicks in*

Personally, I find it impossible to say the word 'Careful!' without saying it in the style of Adams Family Pinball.

Careful!

That game is the Nuts.

Now you've done it....

Dont torture yourself

Feeeeel the Power

Thats it thing- lend a hand

I remember Novalogic's Delta Force being one of my first online proper gaming experiences, and the tense atmosphere of creeping through hideous blocky voxel grass peering at tiny specs in the distance through a scope, waiting to see if they were scenery or soldiers, then taking your shot...it was all livened up by a euphoric cry of "(it's) hard work being this good!" Alternatively, the "Quit screwin' around!" line was as useful as an enemy taunt as it was to wind up team-mates...

It was never original or witty but, for me at least, it was memorable.

My personal favourites are mostly found in Rock 'n' Roll Racing...

"The race is set, the green flag drops!"

Mind you, the sound design for that game all round was immense... I still prefer the RnRR version of Paranoid to the actual recording, hah :)

Did anyone ever play Revenant? I didn't, but I recall me and my brother being hilariously shocked by the voice acting in the demo - the main character insisted on sounding super important during even the most mundane of conversations...

One that's stuck over the years was the protagonist melodramatically exclaiming to a shopkeeper: "I'M going to look arouuund A BIT."
