Hi there,

I'm fed up of being stung by import taxes. I'm happy to pay the 3 or 4 quid tax when stuff gets delivered, but why the hell am I paying a tenner extra to the courier company for the privelidge!? We already pay for the service of postage, and covering of import charges should be part of the deal.

So, if anybody feels the same way, please do sign this petition:

Many thanks

Jon

Doesn't the import limit go up to just over 100 quid in December anyway?

Wasn't aware of that. Even so, you can still get charged a tenner on £17.50 of tax, which is still pretty ridiculous.

Pick companies who use a different courier then. DHL charge far less for home customers. You don't really expect this petition to actually achieve anything do you?

The only site I've ever used that has offered me more than one type of courier is PlayAsia.

And, if people didn't at least try to do stuff like this, then nothing would get done. How do you think the whole bank charges thing got started?

Have you written to the couriers in question and asked them why they charge the fees they charge?

They obviously have to do some extra work when there are customs charges involved, so they would need to be reimbursed for that. It'd be nice to see their justification of the charges before trying to have them reduced.

You know they're upping the import limit from £18 to over £100 soon, don't you? Making your petition mostly pointless.

And although I hate paying a handling fee (and yes, how much seems to be random), you are essentially taking out a small, unplanned loan with the courier company, so it's only right you pay them for it.
