Robert Rodriguez - Red Sonja

Recommended Posts

The original was campy trash, there's no denying that. I imagine Rodriguez will go down the much more hardcore blood & guts route. This has come together very quickly, especially considering the couple were set to remake Barbarella first (McGowan is quoted as seeing sets built). They're doing a Q&A at Comic-Con so once that goes online I'll post the link here.

Ok, turns out Rodriguez ISN'T directing, Douglas Aarniokoski is. Rodriguez is still under contract with the Weinsteins and his next film will be for them.

She looks like she's had a stroke in that second poster.

needs more machine-gun prosthetics.

anyway, she was in a car crash a while ago and some glass fucked up her face, around her right eye - she had surgery, but it still looks wonky.

This is now officially dead in the water. A German company put up $70M but wanted Rodriguez to shoot and edit the film in Germany but he turned it down so as not to be away from his five kids.

Talking to MTV

"It came to the point where [a company from] Germany offered us a $70 million budget, which would have been by far the biggest budget I ever would have had for a movie," he explained. "But I had to shoot it in Germany and post it in Germany. Nothing against Germany, but I have five kids and I was like, 'God, I don't know if we can do that. I don't know if I can be away that long.'"

He continued: "It was a real bummer. We had all this artwork and screen tests of what it would look like. It was a really cool, R-rated, sexy — almost like that [1981 animated] movie, 'Heavy Metal'—version of a 'Star Wars' movie. Something that no one ever could get to see. It was gonna be really great."

If its based on the Gail Simone set of comics from a few years back it could be ok.

I hope they don't include the being raped by a gang of bandits aspect of her backstory though. It doesn't add anything to the character in any of the comics I've read.

Now Bryan Singer is attached to direct. He was dropped by his agent after his earlier trouble and apparently his lawyer is sorting this out for him. lol
