Infamous by Sucker Punch

OK played through the demo and it's "clicked" for me - the platforming became more enjoyable when I found the double jump on walls to get a little extra height and the combat just takes a bit of getting used to. Looking at the pause screen I think the character we have in the demo is quite powered up compared to how the game will start so I think it's now a purchase for sure.

Well done Sony for hyping your game up poorly though - I mean beta codes for a demo - this should be on the PSN right now for everyone instead of having people jump through hoops to get it.

I think it's been confirmed that the demo will be released the day before Infamous releases. This is just a sneak peek

Why release a demo the day before your game launches though by that time people have put their cash down for other games and maybe can't afford this as well. Honestly Sony's marketing dept should be taken out back and shot.

The handful of gamer geeks on here and GAF that already own PS3's don't count - chances are most of us would probably have bought it anyway.

So what would you suggest they do. Release a demo for the people who don't own a PS3?

I've been getting excited about it in the last month or so. It still looks a bit dodgy though doesn't it? The combat at least. I'm a bit clueless of late though, what's this demo all about? It's a beta right? Any chance of me getting a pass still?

Or release it to the general populous that don't spend their day surfing a games forum - they do actually exist you know.

I do wonder why they're not cramming the demo down everyone's throat as soon as possible and for as long as possible prior to release. It's a MARKETING TOOL, a free sample, not a bargaining chip. I will never understand why demo releases are used in this way. Unless the interest in the game is so high that people will do anything to play it (see a Halo release, for example) than why wouldn't you want to advertise your product to as many people as possible?

The very positive impressions of the demo here and elsewhere suggest it's an excellent way to get undecided people on-board with a day one purchase, it's a shame that won't be capitalised upon. Releasing the demo to the public a week before release when it's been ready for a month is lunacy.

I own a PS3 had heard of the game but had little interest in it. If I enjoy the demo it'll go on my to buy list. I think they should get the demo out on PSN quicker than the night before release though, a couple of weeks in advance to let feedback filter through the usual channels. I don't think this game ever looked like a system seller no matter how good it ever turned out to be though.

I must admit I have thought for an exclusive title ther has been very little interest show in it by most, and I've seen many mags carrying previews of it so it's not lack of publicity. I think something about the game just isn't catching peoples eye, or imagination.

But why hold it back till then is what I'm asking - what's the sense in it.

Because a week is about perfect to get people excited. By the 21st I will be bloody bored of the demo and probably not get inFamous on day one.

Bollocks - you're saying that you'll play the demo solidly from now till release  The sooner they get it out there the easier it is for people to budget for the game. Most folk can't afford every title that appears and a decent early demo can make all the difference.

No I'll play it for a few days and then that will be it. And because of the long time between the excitement of the demo and the release of the game I probably wont be that excited about it by release day.

Obviously everyone is different... but if you think giving the majority a taste now is better than a week before release then fair enough. But that is rarely how it ever works.

They should release the demo onto the PSN asap. For me this was one of those games that I would have waited till either it dropped in price or somebody on here or NTSC-UK sold it on cheaply but after playing through just the train section this morning I'm sold.

It really is a fantastic game and fills the void that completing Crackdown created.

I think that all comes down to the quality of the demo. A really good demo gets people interested, talking about a game and the hype to increase. The thing is a really good demo is a rare thing, many a really good game has been blighted by an average or poor demo.

Unfortunately this is a damn fine demo and gives a really good impression of how the game could be.

Ah right - that's why if you read the UFC thread that it's managed to convert a good few folk to buy it based on an early demo.

And people haven't been converted in this thread? And you don't think people will be converted on the 21st when everyone else will get the demo? Or can you only be converted if you play a demo a month before release?

Not to mention that one is a very limited beat' em up demo whilst the other is a free roaming sandbox demo. I'm pretty sure I remember people saying the Crackdown demo (which came out a month before release) was far too generous so they probably wouldn't end up buying the full game.

The thing is a really good demo is a rare thing, many a really good game has been blighted by an average or poor demo.

Bionic Commando is a good example.

It was commercial suicide releasing that demo, killed the game.

I'd assume all devs think they've got a really great demo, so want to put it out there. Except in the case of Infamous which is actually a really good demo and they seem to want to keep it a secret.
