Okotta
9.0 on IGN. They even say it's the best looking Halo game yet I'd still like to play it but I'm saving my money for Uncharted 2 so ODST will have to wait. Unless, of course, Gametrailers decide to give it 10/

Lucky Gonk
I went over to my sister's house yesterday afternoon and played a little bit of Firefight with her bf. He's never played a Halo game previously but he seemed to enjoy it. We were playing on normal difficulty and we both found it to be pretty challenging. The game is weighted for four players. You really need to go in with a full compliment, otherwise it gets tough very quickly (I think the furthest we got was wave three). I found it very easy to lose sight of my teammate, but that may be because we're not familiar with the maps. Friendly fire could be an issue - I know I accidently offed him on one occasion and he did me a couple of times (fnar). Once the Covenant get in among you it can quickly turn in to an epic clusterfuck. And the Covenant will get in among you - they're incredibly aggressive in this. I remember in Halo 3's campaign they had a tendency to hang back for the most part, but in Firefight they'll definitely bring the fight to you. A word regarding the enemies you face: Grunts and Jackels are easy enough to take down. Brutes aren't too bad (once you've popped their shields). Brute Chieftens are cheeky, the flying things - Drones? - are fucking annoying, and the Hunters - oh God, the Hunters - the Hunters are absolute BEASTS in this. You have to focus you're efforts on them, otherwise they'll cause you all kinds of misery. There's also another enemy I've not seen before called the Engineer - they seem to function in much the same way as the Kantus in Horde. They won't attack you, but they give a health boost to any enemy in the vicinity. When they appear you need to focus your efforts on them, otherwise you're making life doubly difficult for yourself. The silenced SMG and the Automag pistol compliment each other nicely - the SMG is great for taking down shields, and the pistol is fab for pulling off headshots. I found the SMG to be surprisingly effective at range, but the recoil is pretty brutal. The pistol is similar to the Covenant Carbine in terms of functionality - you can spam the trigger, but ultimately it's a precision weapon and if you fire it indiscriminately you'll burn through your ammo pretty quickly. The numbers of medals you can rack up in the course of a game is frankly insane. I'm looking forward to giving it a run out as a possibly not so awesome foursome. At this point I wouldn't like to say if it's better than Horde... I certainly don't think Firefight is so good that Horde is now obsolete, but it's early days at the mo'. englishbob
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-halo-3-odst/56111 Was looking pretty good as a purchase and then....woah there, the FIREFIGHT mode doesn't allow match-making games? You HAVE to play with friends or on an invite-basis only? WTF? It was mentioned a few times during the review that the characters and dialogue were good, and I couldn't make my mind up if he was being sarcastic or not? I guess the US version of a good dialogue driven game is different from ours!? All I heard was cliche crap.

This is JUST like their fucking retarded decision to not allow for searchable Custom Games in H2 & H3. Seriously so stupid...So, If I want to play FireFight a few months down the line ive got to pester 3 other players to join in? I can't just have one friend and search for other players? If people want to play CoOp ODST, better get playing it NOW! before everyone has moved onto the next big thing. Well done Bungie for shooting themselves in the foot, this will really prevent Game trade-ins after a couple of weeks.

FlowerOfInfinity
I though the main game was superb. But yeah Firefight as friends-only is rubbish. Although, you *can* play by yourself but it's a bit fffffffuuuuuuuuuu- trust me, I tried. Add me if you want to play; GT "Giraffetastic". Anyone up for scheduling a game or two? KYUSS
Argos claim they have delivered the game! Even though its a 'signed for delivery' and it sure as shit wasn't signed for here! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. This does not bode well for my MW2 pre-order, so much for saving money.
Karzee
6-8 hours sounds about the same as Halo 3. Which I felt short changed about. Never mind, it's just following the trend of FPS's of shortening the single player game and upping the multiplayer element.

Sounds like the single player is nowt new whatsoever. From peoples reactions its not gonna keep me interested for long. Putting in some TV stars just cheeses it up more. Compare this to MW2 in November.

scottcr
I shall rent this - sounds like it's mainly focussed on multiplayer. I'll blast through it on Heroic over a weekend. I don't like the way FPS' are going...

englishbob
I am a bit pissed off that Gametrailers, while I give them kudos for mentioning it, didn't really take it into account when giving a final score. A bit like all the other reviews so far with very high scores. I guess now you know why there is a self-imposed review "embargo" when this kind of game is released, to hide this type of thing. By the time youv'e thought "I don' t like the sound of that", your pre-order copy is already winging its way to you!
Chaz
If it's any consolation, Lovefilm didn't quite deliver the goods (quite literally). Probably Royal Fail are to blame though, since plenty of other Lovefilm people got theirs before Monday.
geldra
It's no consolation at all Chaz, I wanted it yesterday like "everyone else". I don't suppose Bungie will add the option to play with randoms in FF even if a load of people complain. I don't imagine I'd play with randoms but I can see why people aren't pleased. Uzi
Left 4 Dead or Gears 2 Horde are similar game styles that I have never and will never ever ever play with randoms as the element of teamwork, communication and lolz is essential in those games (especially as you have a shared pool of lives in ODST) but the option should be there, those other games have it and this should too. The lack of a choice is bad even though it doesn't effect me personally.

By the time youv'e thought "I don' t like the sound of that", your pre-order copy is already winging its way to you! Nah, it's old news - it was originally announced back at the beginning of August. I entertained the idea of posting about it but figured no-one would care. I agree it's disappointing though. As others have said it won't be an issue initially, but I really don't fancy my chances of finding three amigos to play it with a month or so down the line. Will I get my money's worth out of Firefight? I hope so, but I'm not convinced. Part of me wonders if Bungie are selling Firefight in installments - I imagine when Reach hits next year we'll finally get a Firefight mode with matchmaking added in.
