But I, being poor, have only my DLC;

I don't like the idea that developers will keep features out of a game with the excuse that 'we'll put it in the DLC'. I want a complete game. Look at all the extra content made since Motorstorm was released, which really should have been in the game since the start. I don't much care for microtransactions, either.

If other companies start following the GTA4 model, where the DLC is hyped up months before the game is even released, we're gonna be in trouble. Look at how much seems missing from that game (vehicles, weapons, Coney Island funfair), all stuff which will inevitably be in the DLC content. There's a chance they could have purposely left stuff out, with the intention that it'll help push forward sales if GTA4 leaves you wanting more. And besides, they need to have cool stuff to entice people to get the DLC, so why not chainsaws and skateboards and car customisation?

Clearly they've had big ideas for the DLC from the very start if it was enough to make MS pay $50 million to pay for exclusivity. Rockstar heads mentioned they were gonna advertise it like a proper game.

So, is this gonna the future? Are all games in the future gonna have DLC to drive up profits? You may speak now.

By the time the GTA4 DLC comes out, I wont even care anymore. GTA4 isn't even the 'Special' game it was supposed to be, that's why my copy is now on Ebay, having completed it.

DLC should be reserved for multiplayer, for example Infinity Ward could have a team of people regularly creating new maps and weapons to make COD4 last until COD5 is completed, instead of handing over COD5 to some other lame company, whilst Infinity Ward get to work on COD6. This should apply to Forza 2 also. The problem is not enough content is coming out quickly enough..

If you keep it for multi-player only then you just risk splitting up the user base. It's bad enough having to pay for Xbox Live as it is.

And if the DLC turns out great, you'll be buying the game back again.

This. I really don't see what else needs to be said on the matter.

Vote with your wallets, folks.

exactly - i don't see what the fuss is. either it comes, and is good enough to justify whatever cost it has, or it isn't, and people can give it a miss.

I think the argument is that, if there are features and content of interest to someone, more often than not people will buy it and because of this, game companies see the huge potential & in turn decide to milk the sale of a game even further by drip feeding content that arguably should have been in the main game already.

Lot's of game developers do this now, Pain on the PSN is a prime example. You buy it, load it up, get the choice of two characters to play with & if you want to play as any others you're required to make an extra spend!

The thing that pisses me off about it is the characters you have to pay for were released at the same time as the main game, so it's pretty obvious that they could have included them if they wanted.

I like some DLC. More maps for Halo 2? Yes please. It keeps the core game and just expands upon it. Think of the Tony Hawk games, yes they have had some nice add ons but a lot that have ruined bits of the game. If you just had the original game and then addons/extra levels a great original game could be made even better. Rather than worse through follow up games.

no it isn't!

If you get the free DLC, but not the paid for one, there's a tonne of markers on the map, that if you walk into, say "you need to buy the dlc to play this!!!". It fucks everything up.

Beautiful katamari isn't how to do it either. one or two of them seem added, but the rest could definitely have been in the game from release. the whole supermarket area especially. I love katamari so I did buy them all, but 1500 points takes the piss a bit.

Multiplayer maps is fiiiine really.

I don't think any of those things are missing. There are less vehicles than gtasa but none of the missing ones would be appropriate in the environment, what weapons? and the coney island funfair is obviously very dilapidated, I doubt they'd just have it suddenly opening as a completely new area. What would you do there anyhow except for go on a rollercoaster and play mini golf? there's nothing there.

I'm not going to waste my time arguing with someone who thinks that more mundane vehicles, weapons and activities in a videogame is more desirable because its closer to reality, as opposed to ones which are more exciting and put a giant fucking grin on your face.

Wake up. The Fun vs Reality debate already happened, and Reality got its ass kicked.

I can't say I've ever played a game that genuinely felt short-changed or reduced in scale in order to sell features as DLC later. The two examples you cite (GTA4 and Motorstorm) are both substantial games in their own right, and don't feel intentionally slimmed down or anything like that.

TBH such complaints say more about gamers and their childish sense of entitlement. If what is on the disc on day 1 of purchase doesn't seem worth the asking price, don't buy it.

Crackdown is how to do DLC - especially in the way it doesn't split the userbase into have and have-nots.

Absolutely. It's all about try before you buy.

Slightly off topic, the new Civ demo is brilliant for this- I felt like i'd been allowed a proper crack at the game, and it's left me wanting more. I have no problem paying for DLC as long as it's worth the money, but it's when buying blind that I end up bitter.

Don't know about the rest of you, but when i'm given a generous portion of a game to play with for free before having to fork out i'm more likely to end up paying for it if it's good. Naked War's another good example, actually.

use it as a hub for a set of missions starring a thinly veiled (or not so thinly since they have used the license previously) version of 'the warriors'?

The poor quality of the over-priced Halo 3 DLC has prompted me never to sample this form of purchasing again. For those prices, they should have been fully realised 1-4 player campaign levels, not shitty-little multi-player maps (all of which are inferior to the ones that came with the retail game).

Purposely leaving things out to offer later as DLC is shit, but a proper expansion pack (like Shivering Isles) as DLC is brilliant.

This gets one of those ASCII high-five thingies from me. Console games getting parity with something that was traditionally PC-only is a good thing.

How the fuck do I get hounded if I post anything at all but this vile trolling cunt continues to be let loose to spout shit on this forum?

When are the mods going to wake up and kick this little wankface to the kerb and ban his ass.

All he has done with GTA IV is troll, troll, troll and yet he persists and is still here. Fucking hell.

Because you choose to defend yourself rather than ignore it. As the creator of GTA says, if you ignore the people that complain and moan, they will disappear quickly, if you try to defend yourself you'll make things worse.

Just post Phelan, i like your topics and just ignore those that moan and try to derail the thread.
