Baz Luhrmann's epic 'Australia'

I really enjoyed Australia. It's has a good pace to it so it doesn't feel like a 2 3/4 hour movie and while it is quite predictable where the story will go it never felt boring to watch. Definitely the best movie I've seen at the cinema so far this year.

Hey there.

Just watched this again today. Still enjoyed it. Think it could have been very much improved by cutting everything out of the movie after they end the drove and just before the Jap attack. There's a good 20-30 minutes there that could be easily snipped and not be missed.

But still. some great filmmaking on show in the flick. That stampede sequence is fantastic.

Despin out.

I've probably missed a good film here but I had to stop watching after 20 minutes as I feared for the safety of my TV. Lurhmann's films always have pretty larger than life openings but I fucking hated this, and everyone in it, with a passion. The thought of watching another two hours and 20 minutes was just too frightening to comprehend.

Wife absolutely loved it but I think that was more for the scenery than the actual film and its story. She loved spotting all the Australian stars and what not, that aren't internationally known.

Just asked her - she said if you took away the scenery the film itself was just god-awful.

Going through the thread..Two uses of poppycock. Did people say that in 2008? I must have missed it. Do people still say it? I can't think why something like rubbish or bollocks would be replaced with poppycock in some update of the forum software?

I don't think poppycock was in everyday usage in 2009 but my memory is shit so I may be talking balderdash.
