Formula 1 - Codemasters

Recommended Posts

Sorry for passing on all the invites last night, wanted to spend a bit of time with the single player. Although I now kinda wish I hadn't.

As many have already posted the career does seem pretty screwed. Had one 17 lap race totally ruined on lap 12 due to my pit crew not releasing me for no reason at all, and then going on to suggest I pit again the following lap. Even though I sustained no damage etc.

Also the warnings/penalties are totally eratic too, doesn't seem to be any consistency with how they are handed out.

Was really looking forward to this, and while the actual racing is still exhilarating when it all comes together.. It could all have been so much better.

Here's hoping a few patches sort out the more race breaking bugs sharpish!

As Joe said, quite a few of the reports there are 100% correct and tally with what I have experienced.

The most annoying (and almost deal-breaking) issue I have found is that the AI are not affected by fuel weight. Not sure if it happens on all circuits, but if you're doing career and you get to Barcelona, save yourself the bother and don't try and do the race. Within two laps the AI (all of them, including the Lotuses, the HRT's and my buddy di Grassi) were going 1.2 seconds quicker than the pole time, whereas I was struggling around 5 seconds slower and unable to get anywhere near them.

The only 'fix' at the moment is to turn off fuel simulation.

Almost tempted to trade for Dead Rising 2 unless news of a patch fixing all of the major issues is released in the next day or two.

Blimey this is fairly difficult isn't it. Still not got the hang of braking properly, and have kept the traction control firmly on.

That said I was able to finish mid-field in some MP races last night, so I guess I'm not the only one.

Need to long a few more hours with this, see if my skills improve. However I'm annoyed its come out so soon after Reach - it's distracting me from it :(

Are you on pad or wheel? I'm on the wheel and I can floor the brake pedal until I'm just about to turn in, then blend it out to avoid locking up. As for TC, I've not felt any need for it with the wheel. I seem to be able to feel the car go and at least save a 360 spin, if not a big wobble coming out of a corner.

So, After I got the hang of the basic driving I decided to ditch Bahrain and go to a proper track - Suzuka. Now, like most enthusiast racing gamers, I'm sure you can bang on most games and complete a track that you've played in another game without too many incidents. This is a totally different beast for me. It's like starting from scratch even though I know the layout of Suzuka perfectly well. I'm starting to fucking love this game.

Using a pad - have never owned a wheel except for my Sega Saturn :D

I've enjoyed the time I've spent on this so far - I've had the freezing issue on 360 during qualifying, and I also would have met the objective in the race if it wasn't for the pit stop issues, but i'm still enjoying it - nice trying to drive right on the edge, quite stressful, in a nice way.

It seems when qualifying, the A.I cars going out on track is purely cosmetic and the game randomly gives out times for them based on who they are rather than what times they did out on track.

Yeah, they've answered/admitted this one:

T4RG4 - Because we couldn't make them compete in Qualy this time out Looking to sort that though.

I'm happy with TT and online personally as that's all I was going to play with there being no co-op career. And I love the handling but it seems in the mad rush to get this 'finished' some fairly massive concessions had to be made. In terms of single player it's like a beta release.

Has anyone had any joy using the wheel pictured below on the PS3 version of F1 2010?

A work colleague rung me to say the wheel is working in the menus but just is not recognised once he gets into the racing itself.

I know its not on the official list of supported wheels that Codemasters released but then again nor was mine but my Mad Catz one for the 360 works a treat. Cheers.

It might not be the problem, but recently Sony added a PS3 firmware update that borks some third-party controllers.

No idea if that's it though.

That mad rush to get this finished is no doubt to prohibit a clash with GT5.

They could have waited a few more weeks though.

and to hit the 2010 season while it was still going.

I think it's only the sound that lags, not the controls. If I brake hard, I make the corner, but the engine sound doesn't drop as quick as you'd expect and vice versa.

A glitch in the engineer's vocals? Mine said, "your teammate is faster than you. Please confirm you understand". Very odd.

but seriously, it's all a bit superficial compared to rFactor isn't it? Or even F1 97-01 or Grand Prix4. No ability to check telemetry & refine setups? I was never one for tweaking every last detail, but the standard setup screens on GP4 were very interesting & useful. I guess that's what you get with a primarily console game. I assume windows & xbox Live can't race each other?

Ahh. You've so hit the nail on the head.

Superfical.

Sadly both EA and the codies are famed for it. I don't care so much when it applies to something like Dirt as Dirt's style of racing lends it to arcade style playabilty anyway. Lots of crashes, slides and jumps - it works well there.

But for technical racing where you need to be fast and precise - its not so good.

It'll please the masses but it does kinda feel, yeah, superfiscal.

It's a genuine shame that some earlier PC games don't have the wider recognition that they deserve (along with a nice console conversion!).

Choddo, regarding the audio, you could try the 'Software' option within the in-game config. I couldn't get any changes for the Rapture audio driver to hold, so tried the game's Software setting directly. Rapture is apparently processor-intensive. I could cope with the latency but didn't like it, so I didn't mess around and changed to Software mode. Problem pretty much solved.

I say that as there seems to be an ever-so slight lag, but that is being really picky and I must acknowledge that as it's been years since I've played the games I'm thinking of (F1 Challenge, Grand Prix Legends, GTR, GT Legends), my memory in this regard may be - *cough* - a little hazy.

Right, who's up for some Revs? 8)

Grand Prix?

Oh my, it really does make a difference using a wheel and pedals doesn't it?

Couldn't really justify £80 on the official one, so picked up the Madcatz and it will do me absolutely fine.

When using the pad I often found myself having to twitch throughout a corner to get it round, but the wheel just makes things so much smoother

Just came 17th in Malaysia and feel like I've won the world championship, awesome!
