Last bank holiday blowout for me this year and a day to myself without the family. The last big Saturday boot closed for good today, so no Saturday boots in my area once the weather turns and the summer boots close. Gutted, I'll have to wander over Bristol, heard there's some undercover ones that run all year.

Anyway, some slim pickings sadly. Dealers where gorging themselves early, saw a boxed Atari STE get snapped up for £25, boxed ps2s, Gameboys et al. I just grabbed some spare cabling and some electronics to flip. Although I found a minty complete Alien Storm on the Megadrive for £8.

Hit crime converters on the way back home and found Bloodborne PS4, fallout 3 GOTY PS3 and mudrunners spin tires for Xbox one all for £9. Afternoon boot was better, another 360 e 250gb console but it came with 30 games and 2 pads for £35. Minecraft pig controller for Xbox one for £12 in need of repair, blood and truth on PS4 for £5.

Bought a lovely condition NES in a carry case off my work friend for £40 on Friday to keep and a fat Xbox one off Facebook on the way home from work for £30.

Odd spot today - a cardboard box full of power supplies for classic micros. Sinclair and Amstrad era Spectrum ones (that +3 PSU is huge!), C64 and Amiga, and some Atari ones I didn’t recognise. Must have been dozens. No sign of the computers themselves or anything else related on the same stall. I had a nostalgic sift then moved on.

Feels like I’m seeing more micro stuff lately, old games on tape and the occasional big-box Amiga game. I think the dealers hoover up all the console stuff, but these can slip through the cracks.

that’s a fantastic haul! Congrats. Where did you pick it up?

I’ve never heard of the bad boys game, I’ll look up some reviews right now!

I think one of the devs posted on the forum about it. Think he was like lead developer or something.

I went to a boot sale for the first time in years, more out of curiosity than with any expectations of buying anything.

No sign of any gaming traders there, just a bunch of private sellers each with a small pile of games. It was mostly X360 or PS2/3 stuff, better than copies of FIFA but nothing amazing looking. A handful of PS4/5 games, and a barebones Master System 2 were about the only exceptions.

I went to one this morning and found some good stuff.

Bundle of cassettes at 25p each, some nice stuff in there, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Kate Bush, Nirvana etc

A load of adventure game books which was a lovely find, Lone Wolf 1-5 and 5 random Fighting Fantasy ones

A great condition leather messenger bag for £3

A Saisho ghetto blaster for £10 but the tape player doesn’t turn. I’ll open that up later, hopefully get it spinning again. It will need a new belt and some new grease I’m sure. I’m really hoping to find a Sony one eventually

Wii Sports resort 50p

Dirty Sanyo Walkman 50p

Asterix Omnibus £1

Sounds exactly like the one I was at. Hayes Farm?

Given that you specifically mention keeping the NES, is it safe to assume that everything else you've bought is to sell on? Doesn't that make you one of the dealers gorging themselves?

It would perhaps. But I keep a lot of the stuff I buy and trade on the rubbish or duplicates. I'm currently collecting a lot of Xbox 360 stuff, and I'm pulling the titles I want out from the bundles I'm picking up. Console gets sold on and the rest goes into cex for credit so I can buy some of the rarer titles I never see cheaply (Dodonpachi resurrection recently). Keeping the PS4 and Xbox one titles, seeing more lately and given I've had a kid in the last few years I'm catching up on a lot of titles I missed.

Dealers round my way just grab anything vaguely gaming related but baulk at paying more for bundles. Retro games are near non existent. That alien storm is going up on the shelf tho. Other electronics I pick up are generally for selling on, helps to feed the habit hah.

Personally I think there’s a difference between picking up bargains at car boot prices then selling them on at the going rate via other channels, and bare facedly trawling a boot snapping up everything gaming related, haggling to get it all for the minimum outlay, only to immediately price it up by a thousand percent on your own stall at the same event.

What a great find. I recently refurbished my father's late 1999 / 2000 Walkman and purchased a nice little Sanyo micro hi-fi with CD and tape player and have started to get back into collecting cassette tapes. As a child I have memories of tapes sounding awful with loads of hiss and poor audio quality. Looking back, I think that's because a lot of my music was copied. I've been pleasantly surprised with how good the audio is on the majority of the tapes I've picked up and I'd struggle to tell if the audio wasn't coming from a CD.

I love how tactile a tape is, and the clunk of placing it in a tape deck isn't a million miles away from the feeling you get from inserting a games cartridge into a SNES or Megadrive. I also really like the inlays, and seeing how the design team have taken the content from a 12" sleeve and have attempted to get it to fit into a cassette box.

Enjoy!

That DS is beautiful @erhgiez

Yeah, I think it’s going into the personal collection and I can offload some of the more dingy ones I have. It is gorgeous, I’ve not seen this one before, unsure if it was a limited edition. Anyone know?

I’ve had a good run this week from charity shops and car boot sales

PS2 Slim and 2 memory cards - £3 no leads and not yet tested…

Toshiba Walkman - 50p Didn’t work but I brought it back to life and now sounds fantastic

WiiSports Resort - 50p

Diablo III Reaper of Souls - £1.50

Saisho Ghettoblaster - £10 - powers on and radio works but tape not turning. I’ll take it apart this week and take a look. I love the aesthetic and design of this one

Adventure game books - various prices from 10p - £2.50. I normally never see these but had a flurry recently

DS lite £1! Mint in box, don’t think it’s been used.

Preacher Graphic Novels - £2 each, volume 6 is missing but otherwise complete. I’ve been wanting to read this series, so was a nice pick up

Those adventure books are worth something, sold some Livingston books while back and was surprised how much I got despite condition.
