Guitar hero on DS -

Finally! Finally we get to know how exactly those crazy folks at Vicarious Visions will realize an authentic Guitar Hero-experience on Nintendos popular Handheld. The answer has a name: Guitar Grip! And it looks very promising! It's more or less kind of a shell-grip-controller-hybrid and fits in the GBA-Slot of the DS (either the game is only compatible to the DS lite, or there must be two versions) and covers pretty much of the handhelds back. It also has a strap for your hand to assure a good hold and enough freedom for your fingers to rock on!

The game is played with one hand in the guitar grip, holding the DS sideways - Hotel Dusk- and Kawashima-Style. The non-touchscreen shows the usual GH-"music-highway” with the indicators for the button-presses. Strumming is done with a pick (seems like it comes bundled) on the touchscreen. The gameplay itself seems absolutely the same as previous Guitar Hero iterations. You perform perfect note-strings, gain multipliers, gain star power, use star power and feel pretty damn cool. The screens even indicate a working tremolo. We wonder how this works. You absolutely have to check out the video at the first page of this news. It pretty much shows the real deal, even if it is a bit too casual for our taste. But hey, it is Guitar Hero! And it seems to rock the DS. That's what matters! Now the only thing left to do is playing the waiting game. Guitar Hero On Tour will be released sometime in summer '08. Oh curse you, waiting game!

No, really.

Poor sound quality, one less button, and the buttons aren't parallel to the buttons on screen, which will just mess up my playing. I'm bad enough at GH as it is. I can't work out why they didn't come up with some new method of play for the DS instead of crippling the console versions. I think I'd prefer to tap the circles Ouendan style as they were coming at me more than this.

That, or it's fucking genius*.

(*excluding the MENTAL blowing into the microphone shit, that needs to die right now)

I love how they are dancing around cut to DS shot and they aren't moving at all.

True. I'd like to see them try and play that whilst dancing about.

Most people would be sat down playing this, can't see the point of it somehow.

At least with the real version you feel like you're playing guitar.

.::: The idea is smart tbh. Whether or not it gives you an on-the-go Guitar Hero experience might be something else. But considering the hardware and the peripheral-road they've chosen, this is pretty nifty.

Ironically, I think this would've been better as Amplitude DS, though.

Poor sound quality,

It won't sound great, but Elite Beat Agents shows this isn't really a big deal.

This will only have around 20 songs, though.

one less button

This is true, it won't be as much fun with just four, nor will it be as difficult either. Then again, most people probably only use three buttons anyway.

and the buttons aren't parallel to the buttons on screen, which will just mess up my playing.

Good point. It might be uncomfortable, too. 'Strumming' just looks awkward.

Still, I want it. Despite this:

The game's battle mode will feature similar gameplay as the mode created in Guitar Hero III, with power-ups created specifically for Guitar Hero: On Tour. For example, players can activate power-ups that'll send raving fans to the other screen, and the opponent will have to sign autographs on the touchscreen to get rid of them. Or out-of-control pyrotechnics will be set ablaze, and players will have to blow them out using the Nintendo DS microphone.

:D

Im not too bothered about losing out the 5th button because i dont get on so well with that one!

the sound should be fine especially if using headphones (EBA was great using headphones).

im not too sure on the strumming though.

This is just the beginning.

Rock Band DS

Just imagine it. You already have a mic, and the touch screen can be used as a drum kit of sorts (albeit one where you can only hit a single drum at any one time -- by the way, did they manage to get around that limitation for the Taiko DS game?), and a couple of these peripherals, and you're all set. You could even play over WFC! How can anyone see this as a bad idea?

I'm going to start an Internet petition to get Harmonix to make it. Who's with me?

That sound hilarious!

That sounds more ridiculous than the product advertised in this thread, if that was possible.
