Taken - Liam Neeson

Having read through the thread, I have to agree with Hoop that Neeson's character isn't likeable, especially at the start and I wasn't really on his side, but rather felt detached from the whole thing.

It wasn't a bit dull so much because he dealt with people quickly, but more that I never felt he was in any real danger.

Here we go again...Official development moving forward..

From Variety

EuropaCorp founder Luc Besson announced that the company has entered the TV production biz at a Paris presentation of annual results.

It has also initiated development on "Taken 2," the follow-up to the Liam Neeson starrer that has grossed $145 million in the U.S.

According to EuropaCorp co-founder Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, EuropaCorp is in talks with French and overseas TV networks to develop both French-language and international productions. EuropaCorp's business relationship with French broadcasters -- both pay and free-to-air -- is vital.

Sales to Gallic TV has raised E42.5 million ($58.9 million) over the 2008-09 financial year, accounting for 33% of EuropaCorp's total annual revenues. Aired June 8 by pubcaster channel France 2 as part of a French day-and-date theatrical, TV and DVD bow, Yann Arthus-Bertrand's ecodoc "Home" notched up 8.3 million viewers and a 33% share, giving France 2 one of its biggest audiences of 2009.

EuropaCorp's TV production plans center on making series spin-offs from its hit movies, such as its "Transporter" and "Arthur" franchises. That strategy yielded USA Networks' 1997 "La Femme Nikita," sourced from the 1990 Besson-directed movie "Nikita," before he set up EuropaCorp in 2000.

But, said Besson, plans include all types of TV production.

"We are taking our time to study options and set up a TV production structure," added EuropaCorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet.

loved this film. bad ass action no punches pulled. the bit where he does you know what to the you know what of you know who is excellent.

See, I'm one of the people who thought punches were pulled. The hand-to-hand action was alright, but the rest of it felt quite light to me. And I've been more impressed with hand-to-hand stuff in the Bourne films, the most recent Bond films and 24.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike Taken, but I fail to see where the massive love is coming from. Even for a no-story action film (which is what I was expecting) it felt quite light.

I watched this yesterday with the mother of all hangovers, thought it was absolute shite. I wanted Commando style trash, I got a big pile of shite with a very boring story, very uninspired action and acting and nothing of note whatsoever to recommend it. It's bad but it's not bad enough, just the same old crap you've seen a million times before.

Larry I love you like a brother but you're wrong like a motherfucker.

Sorry, don't know how else to put it.

This is one seasons worth of 24 reveals put into 91 minutes.

:)

Yeah, I can't see it being any good. I think it worked in the most part because this guy and his rather brutal/sadistic methods weren't expected (well not by me, anyway - I hadn't heard anything about it before seeing it), but he isn't enough of a character to carry a film. Unless it'll include flashbacks of his previous missions and stuff.

Gah, this really will be awful.

They'll probably replace Neeson with Brian Connolly too.

I'm not sure if we'll be seeing Neeson in anything anytime soon. After the death of his wife I'm sure he just wants to be left alone for a long time.

I watched this for a second time the other day with some friends, it is much better on repeat viewings as you expect the awfulness of the setup at the start and know Liam Neeson (or BRIAN!!!) is minutes away from killing some Albanians hard in the face. Somehow I never noticed that his daughter was Shannon from Lost the first time round, probably down to the fact she looks so much younger here. Most films I watch nowadays I quickly tire of and want to be over but I would have happily watched another badass hour of Taken's violent justice killings alone! Just a great film that deserves more attention, and my friends loved it too.

Am I the only person who thought his daughter ran in quite a retarted way?

Do you mean the bit near the beginning where she ran into the house, then sort of spun around and ran back? I think that was just the result of a 25 year old trying to play a giddily excited 17 year old. I thought she did quite well.

I would imagine that Brian's buddies will be back to recruit him for one last mission that will inevitably go tits up and he'll need to bust out the albanian killing skills all over again.

Or Ex-Wife's Rich Hubbie's shady business deals hinted at in the first film will come back to haunt him and this time he'll have to save his daughter AND his ex-wife.

Will it be as good? Will it fuck.

But if it is even 50% as good as the first one it will be AMAZING.

Needs to stay in Europe though. Brian killing American goons just won't be as fun as we all know EURO RAPERS ARE MORE EVIL THAN AMERICAN RAPERS

I watched this earlier, it was OK I suppose. Nice to see Liam Neeson's take on calculated badassery, but it was basically Middle Aged Jason Bourne: Paris Vacation.

That bit with the explosion was a bit silly. Didn't sit well with the rest of the film.

EDIT: Also, I was thinking the 'I've got 93 hours to save my daughter!' thing was going to lead to him activating a really loud beeping 93 hour countdown on his digital wristwatch. They missed a trick there.
