Taken - Liam Neeson

Wow this film takes itself way too seriously,

Especially given that its rammed full of ridiculous stereotypes and Liam Neeson is running around with some kind of invincibility cheat mode on.

It could have done with Liam making some kind of hilarious quip each time he killed someone.

In fact they should have got Arnie out of retirement to make it, they could have called it Commando 2 as it basically the same plot only simplified.

I dunno, I mean I can see why people enjoyed it, but I just couldnt buy into it, I think if any other actor was the lead it would have been a very different film indeed.

Just back from actually going to the cinema to see this and still enjoyed it just as much as the first time I saw it, gunshots especially being a lot louder :P

I did notice though that it was edited slightly in the torture sequenence

you don't see Neeson clink the two nails together saying 'Focus!' and then driving the nails into the guys knees and then hooking up the grippers to each nail. That's all cut out. I'll have to check but I think a close up reaction of the guy screaming has been edited as well

I'm guessing that this MAY be the same version the americans get as a PG-13 next year as it was 20th Century Fox distributing it here also. That's all that was edited though so not very much at all, all the other violence was left intact. I'll probably end up buying the asian version though if the dvd for that's uncut.

Yeah just saw it tonight - with a group of friends - (about half of whom had 'seen' it already) and we were slightly miffed that bit had gone also - hopefully it'll be back in the DVD version - or we'll be importing also...

Just back from this and really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure if it was where I was sitting in the cinema but the floor was shaking every time a gun was fired. Really added to the experience I thought.

It is a very simple concept, but it worked well and I thought Neeson did a good job in the roll. 8/10

Meh watched it last night it was OK but I couldn't buy into the characters or the idea that he was able to put the pieces together with such ease. The idea he was racing to save her from being podgered by that fat robed Arab and >just< managed to get to her in time was a bit too much.

The opening is pretty horrible, I don't think anyone will deny that, but it does succeed in getting you to cheer for Neeson's character (if you like the film). Probably would have worked better if they'd completely cut the whole Holly Valance part. Just too much cheese.

You can never have too much Holly Valance!

I couldn't bear to watch the first 20mins again so just skipped it on my PS3.

The only thing that reminded me of the cheesy 20mins was the last minute of the movie.

But holy fuck the space between was awesome, just awesome!

Thanks, guys! :)

Actually the whole thing with his daughter was a bit sexual to be honest. Considering Besson had a hand in it though, what with Leon being the only paedo action flick in recent years, isn't totally surprising.

Agree totally with Kerraigg on the 7 blokes bit, how awesome with the immigrants speech, and then he releases white fury.

Finally got round to seeing this. Absolutely loved it! It's easy to pick holes in (why did he chase after the french guy when his black mate who he just knocked out would have had the same information?) but it was just a riot. The fights were so brutal and quick. Reminded me of A History of Violence quite a lot in that way.

I liked Neeson in it but I would have preferred someone else. For some reason Timothy Dalton came to mind. Actually I would have loved Timothy Olyphant. Or any other actor called Timothy perhaps.

Well even that, a lot of it was luck. It's a minor quibble that's all, I know he was pressed for time, in fact now that I think on it his no nonsense attitude is part of the draw. It would have been nice to have a bit of cleverness to the action, the only bit I can recall is when he

lay among the bodies and picked people off.

Got to hand it to the actress who played his daughter... I had a hard time belieiving it was the very same actress who was in Lost. I mean, in that she played a bitchy, uptight woman in her twenties. Yet in this she completely nailed the awkwardness and daftness of a 17 year old (she even looked 10 years younger). Had I never seen her in anything else, I would just assumed she was another disposable young actress.

And I agree with the sentiments about the first 20 minutes - they were absolutely necessary to establish Neeson's character and what he'd given up - and they helped get the old 'blood lust' going. Also the whole 'under the bed' sequence was fantastically done. Genuinely chilling and bad ass.

It was stuff like that (the character motivation and the direction) that made the film for me, because - let's be honest - without it it would have just been a Steven Segal movie. The action wasn't even as good as The Transporter - so I think the whole set up was absolutely necessary so that the revenge payoff tasted pretty sweet.

8.5 fire extinguishers to the face out of 10.

Loved this so much. I think the opening 20 minutes are essential in hyping the carnage. i sat there nervously twitching in my seat going "oh man, he loves her SO much, he's gonna kill EVERYONE!"

:) Agreed. I didn't think the first 20 mins weren't too bad - the bit where he saves Holly Valance just helped hype up the tension and showed how bad ass Neeson's character was. Great film, really enjoyed it.

He seriously fucked that black dude up, probably had a concussion and a crushed larynx, I doubt he would be doing much sensible talking any time soon. And the other guy appear in the photo so was therefore the best direct link to his daughter.

The comparison with AHOV is one I made myself, I could watch Viggo kill people all day, the same here.
