@Matt Defis what's your opinion on the reffing so far? A load of Welsh fans on FB are harping on about how terrible it's been but I thought he'd been having a pretty solid game.

Good match this. Can see Wales sneaking it on 70+.

The ref has been fine, I have far more problems with the ref last week in the first half against Ireland.

Anyway, apologies for the triple post but what a great pair of games today. I know Ireland are everyone's second team but for the first time in my rugby-watching career I was absolutely cheering France on today - ever since that NZ autumn international I realised that in spite of my genetic generalised hatred of French rugby they're the real deal. When they can get the quick offloads they look upstoppable, that fast rugby is still something NH teams are still struggling to adapt to and this French side have got it down to a tee.

Shame for Scotland, Wales played a shitload better than the corpse of a side that trotted out last week but still weren't great. I must admit after the initial two pens went over my English defeatism went 'oh here we go again, they're going to beat us and then roll over' but I'm thankful that wasn't the case. Wales probably edged it but after the first half hour or so Scotland seemed to run out of ideas - the backs didn't have the pazzaz, and it really shows when Russell is having an off day.

Interesting match tomorrow. With the U20s and the minor disarray England have, it's probably the best chance Italy have had in a good few years (since Ruckgate). I still think we'll win but close.

Thoughts on the championship? I reckon France to steamroll everyone, except England will spoil it and beat them messily, then France will win on bonus points or diff or something.

When was the last Italy game that was good for the neutral? It was a slightly weird game as Italy genuinely played alright, yet the scoreboard was probably still pretty kind to them. It was an ok enough performance from England, still plenty of errors which are a worry going into the Wales game.

It looks like Lawes and Tuilagi might be back for the Wales game, which would be a good boost for England, i'm assuming there will be some Wales players back as well though. I would probably expect England to edge it at home but who knows at the moment, I don't think either team is capable of putting in a brilliant performance, but both are definitely capable of putting in an absolute stinker!

England squad announced, Lawes and Tuilagi back in which isn't a surprise but Randall starting at 9 is. Shows good intent, that is a pretty attacking line up through 8,9,10,12,13. Still feeling a bit unsure about the game though, i'd probably give England a 70/30 chance of winning but if things start to go against them and the penalty count creeps up it's easy to see how Wales could get a foothold in the game.

With Faletau back for Wales I would rather it was Sam Simmons at 8 for England, but if we go for an open game I fancy our chances.

 Couldn't believe* it when I saw it this morning.

Be interesting to see what Jones does now, Daly is the lazy choice but I wonder if he might take a risk and put Nowell or Simmonds in there. Both have the speed and strength (not as much as Tuilagi obviously) and both are excellent defensively. It's obviously a specialist position and based on Wales attempt to experiment with Adams at 13 maybe that will put them off anything too wild. I imagine it will be Daly though, with Slade switching to 12.

*pretty much nailed on.

I don’t think there’s anything too lazy about that. I don’t like Daly much (even though he’s from my old haunt) but he can really come to life at centre.

He seems to be riding on some decent centre performances in the Championship last year increasing his versatility, I have no problem with him at wing or fullback, or even at cover for centre. He just offers no real gain line threat and when the Welsh defence is likely to be really tight it makes sense to have someone who'll at least be able to make a few yards and just keep the defence on the back foot. The flipside is that Randall, Smith and Slade could well create the space for to use his pace.

Some of the refs decisions in this game have been weird. France get a pen and warning not to hold the lineout jumper too long drawing a foul. Price gets told not to milk a pen when the French guy was obviously impeding him leading to a French try, seem off to me.

Spilling that pass when there was a 3 man overlap to walk in was a sickener

If I was a Scottish fan I'd be livid. Some of the missed opportunities is horrible. Ref does seem a lil inconsistent, but not the deciding factor.

I'll wait to see Eng v Wales later but I can't see anyone beating this France team right now.

Exactly, we gave that away so badly

Wayne Picac needs to watch Squidge rugby, he highlighted Wales breakdown going forward and how it means the can beat Scotland and France but means they'll lose to Ireland and England and it's all there to see right now on your tv.

Even Erasmus has commented on how he uses Squidges knowledge of teams to help him.
