England team;

Malins | Steward | Marchant

Youngs | Smith | Slade | Daly

Ludlam | Simmonds | Curry

Isiekwe | Itoje

Sinkler | LCD | Genge

Replacements : George, Marler, Stuart, Ewels, Dombrandt, Randall, Ford, Nowell.

If nothing else that is an incredibly strong bench! Not entirely sure about the starting team, doesn't look one that could grind out a result in shit weather, which is what it looks like it will be at the moment. I'd be a lot happier if I wasn't having to drive 7 hours each way to watch it, with a slight sinking feeling that this year could go the same way as last.

I'll be honest seeing Josh Adams in the centre for Wales while Johnathan Davies has been left out has me scratching my head but I trust Pivac. I guess Pivac could be thinking more ahead to the world cup and building that depth with the new players coming through.

OTB podcast clearly haven't learned anything saying Ireland are going to kill Wales and the score will be 40-10, they did the same thing last year and were made to eat their words.

They probably assumed the game would be played by 15 men on each side.

Wasn't expecting it to be this bad but if you're missing more than half your team against a really strong team it's to be expected.

What a pile of wank from Wales,  congrats Ireland, by far the better team.

I enjoyed this story in 3 parts.

I can't decide if this is our traditional peak before the inevitable disappointing World Cup, or if we are just going to get mugged a few times after flattering to deceived.

Ha. I did see a comment today along the lines of "I know Wales start slowly, but I wasn't expecting them to start in reverse". As much schadenfreude as I took in it, it was more baffling than anything - there was no cohesive gameplan whatsoever, they never looked in any danger of being close to competing (despite Shane Williams' weird optimism 50 seconds in), and I think the scoreline flattered them if anything. Really odd.

As for Eng, I think better game management won the day. My Dad was moaning about Scotland being "spoilers" as supposed to playing flair rugby, but I don't agree with that - they defended excellently, took the chances when presented with them, and exposed holes in our mid (bit worrying that). After spending years watching Scotland get routinely humped I much prefer a close contest, the squad look really cohesive and well drilled. I think France are going to win this year, possibly Ireland, but I'd love to see it go down to the last weekend with Scotland in the mix.

Wales might have won the championship last year but they could easily have ended up with just one or two wins.

Our defence looks awful and we let Edwards walk away. Terrible decision.

Our offence looks toothless. We have Stephen Jones in as attack coach. Bland decision.

We face a very in-form Ireland and decide to leave out Davies who Marshall’s our demented so well and put Adams in. Suicidal decision.

This could be a painful tournament.

I thought England would lose by a couple of points so was close enough, although I never really thought they would be in the game despite that. It was a bit weird really, straight after the game it felt like a pretty good performance, ball held up over the line, moment of madness for the penalty try, really strong maul, Marcus Smith excellent again......yet thinking about the game more there were barely any line breaks, England failed to capitalise from possession and territory and any notion of leadership felt virtually non-existent.

It feels like an odd England team, one that is sort of in transition, but almost against Eddie Jones wishes. England could still do well in this tournament but at the moment it feels like there is a lot of muddled thinking around the the selection and tactics. Scotland were the opposite to an extent, they looked settled and relaxed and had a clear game plan, even if the tactic (if it was one) of 'giving up possession' only ever looks good in hindsight when you've won the match, especially one this tight.

I think the one area Scotland will be looking at a bit nervously would be physicality, this is not a vintage England team and I don't think it's unfair to suggest that Ireland, France or even a fully fit Wales team would probably have won that game with the same level dominance.

Was my first visit to Murrayfield too, and the atmosphere was astounding once the penalty try had been given. Great experience overall. I also saw someone huffing gas lighter fluid in Edinburgh centre, another first for me!

I suppose the silver lining is we're going through a transition at the moment with quite a few players at the end of their career and the new guard starting coming through, gives us time to start building ready for next year.

I trust Pivac but that was hard to watch on Saturday.

I don’t necessarily disagree but I think we missed our chance. We had an incredible squad for a good period of time and a great coach and should have reached two World Cup finals. I’m not sure there is better to come.

Well atleast I've got to live through a shining period of Welsh rugby if that's the case.

Yep. And just to be clear, I really hope I’m wrong but we really did have such a good squad paired with an amazing coaching team.
