Quote

At the last count, in 2014, there were 1,339 people in the UK between the ages of 30 and 44 who had been diagnosed with dementia – or 0.01% of the 13 million in that age group, or one in every 9,500. The startling news that former professional rugby players from that demographic have been diagnosed with the condition presents rugby with a reality it has dared not face until now.

Even if the 11 (eight of whom are joining a new legal action) turn out to be the only ones, which is next to inconceivable given we know of another 90 with likely symptoms – and this before those players had gone public, this before some have even reached middle age – they represent nearly 1% of the roughly 1,500 players from that age group who played professionally in England and Wales in the 15 years after rugby union went open. Assuming the incidence rate derived from the 2014 Dementia UK report has remained constant, the chances of that same wider population of 13m returning 10 or more cases from a sample of 1,500 are a shade under one in 10 trillion. For 11 or more, the chances are so small that a regular spreadsheet cannot cope and defaults to a probability of zero.

Fucking Italy, terrible showing but their future below the under 18 level is looking very promising.

Scotland looking the far better team but as usual at this level the last 20 minutes will show what's what.

A warning and yellow xard on 8th foul, doible that and no more cards, what a joke. But we bloody won! Wtf was that drop goal about though?

Never the less Scotland dominated and England looked useless, score shouldve been more but still who cares?^_^

Edit: by which I mean we should have been more that a score ahead so many times.  We played so well, but is the classic Scotland thing of too little reward for such good play.

Fuck yes Scotland, amazing, made my night.

The ref needs a talking to though, England should have had at least 3 players off the park.

Tottally. Constantly offside at rucks most of the game but only Scotland got penalised the one time they did it

Offside at a ruck was got Vunipola his yellow so not sure about that. Great performance by Scotland though, it feels like it's been coming for a while now, and christ Van der Merwde (?) looks impressive. Russel's dim witted trip aside there was barely anything wrong with that performance.

England were piss poor, and that loss has been coming since the France one. The entire Saracens debacle has been a complete fuck up though, having almost the entire spine of your national team made up of players (Daly > Farrell > Vunipola > Itoje > George) who now haven't played in a couple of months, certainly not at anything approaching a decent level is a mess. They were passably match fit apart from Vunipola who didn't look fit enough to play at an amateur level and some way off looking match sharp. Fuck knows why Jones didn't start with at least Ford and Ben Earl on the pitch, who knows if it would have made a difference to the result but it cannot have made England any worse that's for sure.

A stupid Welsh mistake to keep the game going when it should have been killed off, and then another mistake from the Irish to actually end it. Weird ending to a crazy game. Wales won but Ireland came out of it looking better.

One of those was expected though!

I'm not sure why people think the red is harsh, it's a shoulder barge to the head, with the player coming from outside the ruck and going off his feet straight away. It's not like the ref didn't look for mitigating circumstances either.
