Rllmuk's Official Sales Figures Thread

Recommended Posts

Ah, sorry, I meant Asia in general. HK, it's there in abundance, small stalls putting copied games on, selling pre-modified PSPs and applying screen protectors and all that, like a big conveyor line! Happens in China, Malaysia and Thailand too from what I saw.

I was actually pretty surprised that I didn't see any DS piracy while I was in KL, I wasn't looking out for it but I expected it to be far more widespread considering how easy it is to sort out. My cousin in Singapore didn't even know that the DS stuff now didn't even need flashing!

But yeah, in HK I'd imagine it's pretty much exclusively piracy, my cousins have a DSL and a PSP S&L but I'm pretty sure they have no idea how to put new games on, or even if they can...

Singapore is so dead set against it I'm unsurprised. But KL? You never went into Times Square shopping centre? Copied stuff (clothes etc) all over the place, there's lots about but you do need to know where to go for it. Bangkok is more piracy-ridden than HK I found, there were a lot of authentic DS games for sale in HK, whereas there wasn't nearly as much in Thailand in general.

Really? Where is it then. Can you say that every Wii owner out there has another game beside Wiisports?

;)

Bizarre. Anyway, have a look at the software charts in all three regions to see that Wii games are selling. there are more Wii games in the UK charts than 360 games and we all know that each 360 owner owns 3000 games.

GamesIndustry's take on the latest UK charts:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Grand Theft Auto IV have finally dropped off the top ten of the software sales chart in the UK, for the week ending July 5, according to figures from Chart-Track.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl has held onto the top spot while Battlefield: Bad Company retains its position at number two.

These are followed by Lego Indiana Jones: Original Adventures in third and HB Studio's Wii game Big Beach Sports at fourth place.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is the first in a spate of titles to see a reappearance on the top ten, jumping up from eleventh place last week to eighth. Wii Play climbs up three places to reappear back on the chart from twelfth to ninth place, and The Bourne Conspiracy closes the chart at tenth, up five places from last week.

'Finally'? Metal Gear Solid's only been there for three weeks hasn't it?

I don't know where to start!!!

Apparently, the Wii is only for 9 year olds who don't buy games and the 360 is for 13 to 33 year olds. So, in a year's time I'll be too old for the 360 and there are millions of 10-12 year olds with no console for them.

This is mental

Thats one of the silliest things i've read, since Sony said that rumble was last gen

My 17yo niece has Wii Play, Mario Kart and SMG. I dont know anyone who only has Wii Sports (there will be a few people, but so what if there is). Around christmas time I couldn't find SMG, heck I couldn't find Mario and Sonic at the Olympics ffs

Also during the christmas period a fair few retailers (and some online ones) where trying to force consumers into Wii bundles, with frankly some crap titles, with next to no real savings either.

I am sure within this thread that it was reported that the Indiana Jones game sold the most on the Wii when it was released....

Why would I need to?

Because you think I'm wrong and you sounded like you had something to back that up?

**the sound of straws being clutched**

Sigh. Some good input there.

I know one person who's only bought WiiSports

OMG the sky is falling

LOL back at you. Where did I say that Wii software was not selling?

Heh you'd be surprised, my uncle took me to an independent game store to look for Wii Fit at the time and they were selling someone a chipped Wii with copied games. As for KL, I wasn't looking for any games so that's partly to do with it but I was just a little disappointed almost that the NDS domination hadn't spread so far considering the ease of piracy but I suppose £100 for the console's a large factor in that.

Yeah in Japan where the media create numbers are for, most people are playing on unmodified normal retail PSP and likewise actually buying the real software UMDs from shops. So piracy is not what's driving the Japanese PSP market.

I never saw legitimate sales of PSPs anywhere, so presumed they must come from Japan or something.

The Japanese sales are fairly pleasing, apart from the slightly disappointing total sales for Mario Galaxy - it's the only reason I haven't sold my Wii yet and it should have stomped over all the other uninspired tripe that's outperformed it on the platform.

Best selling console for the year in Japan.

It isn't really a bad console - games development was engulfed by Sony's success with the PS2 then by their (correct)decision to focus on the PLAYSTATION 3 and has been forgotten i nthe press for a while due to the mass appeal of the Nintendo DS. It actually has more games that appeal to me than the DS though mainly because of the Playstation emulation.

Lest we forget it is the only real handheld that hasn't floundered in the face of Nintendo's handheld domination.

In gaming terms, it's a Monster Hunter machine really. Other than that it essentially sells as a multi-media/emulation device rather than a gaming handheld, hence its second biggest seller of the year (the previous edition of MH, as it happens) only scraping over the 200k mark. For most of its life it's generally been treated as a higher priority than Wii for third parties (the list of franchises on the console speaks for itself), but the dismal software sales in all territories are seeing it treated as a leper when it comes to future development.

But you're still gonna get one for Project Zero 4, and that you cannae deny!

I say that, yet MGS4 and a PS3 still comes first... and god knows when that's going to happen.
