Rllmuk's Official Sales Figures Thread

They weren't the only site to mention it. The gap is closing, that's interesting news to some people I guess.

It's confusing wording though. What they actually mean is, the weekly gap is closing. But the Wii is still outselling the PS3, so the real gap between the console is still actually widening.

It's bizarre reporting. It's like they're willing the Wii to do badly.

No it isn't.

I don't see how it's fanboy journalism, tbh. Seems to be just stating fax.

No it isn't.

It's not closing, it's just growing at a slower pace.

RubberJohnny gets it.

And he then goes on to say

While Sony can be pleased with its progress, Microsoft doesn't have much cause for celebration - the Xbox 360 moving only 18,717 units over the same four-week period.

Let's look at those ratios,

Wii/PS3 - 2.34

PS3/360 - 2.52

I honestly can't believe that some people see this as unbiased reporting.

The change is that the Wii is selling less, rather than the PS3 gaining momentum.

Benito has it.

Did Sony actually spin it though?

Not officially, no. There was no 'press release' from Sony about weekly Japanese figures - there never is. They'd get lynched if they tried to spin bad figures in such a way. It's a case of one site, perhaps with Sony leanings, reporting it in such a way and the rest of the web following the same path because writers can't be bothered to write their own stories.

The gap in weekly sales. I thought we established that's what they were talking about around 3 days ago.

I established no such thing sir!

If the fact that it's being outsold by less now than it was previously is the only straw you've got to clutch, I suppose you have to take comfort where you can...

I do sympathise actually. Us Nintendroids went through the same tortuous self-delusions in the last two generations. You're already experiencing the joy of "being relegated to a corner at the back of Game". Just wait till you endure the teeth-gnashing frustration of "no longer being stocked by Woolworths" and "only having a quarter of a page in the Argos catalogue". These things are good for the soul, though. Through suffering, enlightenment.

I get it too!!! I get it too!!!

Of course! *kiss noise*

Where am I posting any news about the gap closing? It doesn't interest me.

And I still can't believe some people don't think the PS3 is gonna sell well. LOL.

Why, were you not happy owning the above consoles? the last 2 at least were perfectly viable gamer machines.

I didn't actually own a 3DO or a Jaguar, (although I can see now that my post kind of implied I did).

I did own Sega's last 2 consoles though and you're quite correct that they were viable gamer machines. Unfortunately, people stopped making games for them long before the hardware proved itself redundant. I hope to have new games to play and look forward to on my PS3 three years hence.

Ah yes, Denial. I remember it well. "The good old Cube will come good in the end," I used to tell myself. "There's no way a console this good will fail. It already has so many great games, and so much potential! Not to mention the world-famous brand name."

Just wait till you get to Anger. "It's all the fault of Woolworths/Game/Edge/Thatcher/those thought-leading opinion-formers on RLLMUK," you'll fume, just as I did, and just as wrong-headedly.

But eventually you'll reach Acceptance. Just in time for the next generation to kick off!

Well it's done 7m ish already and has only just fallen under £300. Once it falls a bit more and stuff like Home, Firmware 2.0 (assuming is has in-game XMB) and MGS4 is out I predict sales will rocket.

Home? I'm not sure about that?

The firmware is gonna increase sales?

MGS4? Mmmmm.

I reckon it will outsell the 360 in the end but not get anywhere near 100m. The price is the only thing that will help.

I remember when Metroid Prime came out - the black cube with the prime bundle... Prime actually shot to number 1 in the charts and it was reported as the best week of sales since launch.

We've been there Soong - we share your pain. That's why us Nintendroids are such a happy and becalmed bunch. It'll be worth it in the end.

Yes, I'm sure sales will be booming as soon as they introduce that feature.

If it means online gaming with the PS3 improves ten-fold (which it would, with in-game XMB!) then amongst ze hardcore I imagine there will be a lot more interest.

As for Home, that's gonna be covered by mainstream news and will definitely get people interested.

Really?

I thought everyone expected the Game Cube to fail.

ah but you see - it didn't fail... it was very profitable from day one and made Nintendo tons of cash. Yes, of course, in terms of raw numbers it may not have...

ARGH!

STOP!

sorry - that was the old me.

Really?

I thought everyone expected the Game Cube to fail.

Everyone who didn't buy one.

Which is, of course, a pretty good working approximation of "everyone".

When Sony will come up with a crazy, off-the-wall idea, and dominate the industry once more?

Nah, they'll be out of business by then! :(

"you can upload porn on your TV in your virtual home and let guys with female avatars watch"

"where do I login?"

All joking aside, Soong, that sounds like the worst thing ever.
