Rllmuk's Official Sales Figures Thread

You seem to think the Wii version has done badly just because (understandably) it's been outsold by the 360 version.

It's not done badly at all. Just I thought it might run the 360 version a bit closer than that.

What do you think about the Wii version outselling the PS2 version out of interest?

If it hadn't, then alarm bells would be ringing.

So has the PS3 price cut happened in the States yet then?

EDIT: 2 November.

Nope - the 40GB launches on November 2nd. The price-drop was last week - this is the first week of sales since then.

If you had a 360 and a Wii, surely you'd buy GHIII on the 360?

It will look better and have achievements, online scoreboards and DLC.

Something very odd is going on over at VG. They've just removed Guitar Hero III from this week's software estimates. Was it not actually out this week? Bizarre.

EDIT - Ahh.

"Guitar Hero III was released on the 28th and this set of data is for the week ending 27th.. That's why it was taken off. The initial numbers were most likely first day sales numbers."

P.M.S more like!

When some of Capcom's projected sales figures appeared a while ago Zack & Wiki wasn't even on the list, so I get the feeling they're not expecting much — Umbrella Chronicles was, for reference. Personally I can see it doing rather well via word of mouth, and isn't it out at a lower price point in the US?

29. [WII] Zak & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (Capcom)

Zack and Wikki there at number 29, looks like that 7k~ figure was for a 3 days of sales as the game came out on the 25th. Not awful but not great.

I'm not sure what Capcom expected when they hardly even advertised the game and now it will be up against SMG. Opoona looks fucked too, even though it looks like a decent game for rpg fans. Resi Chronicles should do pretty well though.

The official Capcom line on Zak & Wiki sales:

Our expectations are modest as a raw number, but relative to the performance of most third party Wii titles, they are aggressive.
Our guys in Japan had a HUGE marketing push for this title. It's only just come on the market there too so I'm not so sure how you're passing judgements so quickly.

As for us, let me make a few things clear:

We can't force a retail buyer to take it (though we got it on the shelf in pretty much every major retailer).

We can't make a retail buyer expedite freight so it's on shelf the day after shipment everywhere like Gamestop typically does (which is why Wal-mart and Best Buy only started getting it on shelf on Thursday/Friday).

So for those of you who only shop at Gamestop, either pre-order or look elsewhere to find copies. There were very few pre-orders at Gamestop on Z&W (especially relative to what we're seeing on the first couple of days sales). If you want to see more units on the shelf day one in that particular retailer, then pre-order. Gamestop bases their day one number as some multiple of its preorders. Period.

A number of retailers we pushed to take more units than they did but they have their own thoughts about the game and the market and make their shelf allocations accordingly. Our day one number was a decent number by any measure, owing a lot to the reviews and PR work that we've done. We are not out of stock anywhere except for possible spot out of stocks at Gamestop (probably rectified already as they took their backup order after the first day of sales).

As I've said repeatedly, if you're having a hard time finding it, Wal-mart has the most units and you're most likely going to find plenty in stock there.

Don't try MySims. I thought I'd accidentally let the disc-loader eat the cellophane wrapping as well as the disc.
Proof that people will buy any old pap.

To wink or not to wink... that is the question.

Bullshit. I'm playing CSI: Hard Evidence right now.

*cough*

Anyway. MySims is great, if you're in the target audience. Terrible load times, none of the charm of Animal Crossing, a bit fiddly at times, but so far it's been the most enjoyable non-handheld videogame I've ever played with my daughter. The split design of the nunchuk / wiimote pair mean that we can take it in turns to look after each half of the controls and she doesn't get overwhelmed with complexity. She's only five, but she's designed and decorated some amazing custom furniture in the games 3d editor. She spends ages deciding on her outfit, she's built some smashing houses, and the game is filled with lots of incidental animations that she loves. Unlike just about every other videogame, there's are no failure states to put her off, and none of the mild peril (which she hates) that suffuses most movies and games for kids. She runs away from the goth teenager every time she turns up in the game, but that's probably for the best. It's one of the few games that allows you to be genuinely creative. It's a shame it's not a bit better, both technically and in terms of its wider appeal, but I'm very pleased with it.

I suspect I should have posted this in the MySims thread. Anyway, carry on!

the PSP is starting to do better - with DS sales starting to cool down a bit. I'm wondering how many 'new gamers' who have bought DS' have become so hooked on mobile gaming that they've also gone out and bought PSPs as well... a rising tide lifts all ships and stuff like that.

So - are we expecting further uber Wii sales next week for Super Mario Galaxy?

Bloody hell, GamesIndustry.biz are at it again.

PS3 closing gap on Japanese Wii sales

PS3 closing gap on Japanese Wii sales

But Nintendo console still outsells rival by 2-to-1

The Nintendo Wii is still outselling the PlayStation 3 by 2-to-1 in Japan, although the gap between the rival formats has closed for the fourth consecutive month.

The latest figures released by Enterbrain and reported by Reuters show that Nintendo shifted 110,415 units in the four weeks to October 28, while Sony sold 47,183 PlayStation 3 units.

Microsoft continues to struggle in the region, with sales of the Xbox 360 reaching 18,717 units for the same period.

Can somebody explain to me how a gap can widen and close simultaneously?

Of course, what they really meant is that the rate at which the gap is widening has slowed down. Didn't anyone at GI.biz do calculus?
