Rllmuk's Official Sales Figures Thread

Why would you have expected it to have done better on the Wii? All the previous games have been on the PS2 or 360 and they have a bigger installed base in the US. In a very competitive software chart those are great figures (estimates) for the Wii GH3.

Purely because of the kind of title it is.

I know until Halo 3 and BioShock, Guitar Hero II was actually the 360's biggest seller this year, but in my mind that kind of game perhaps appeals to the Wii's userbase more. Certainly didn't expect the gap between the two versions to be quite so stark, anyway.

GH3 appeals mostly to rockers - and rockers tend to be guys. Rockers who play games tend to be guys in their 20s and early 30s... prime 360 ground. These guys tend to be tech savvy as well - so their 360 will be online and they'll be aware of the downloadable content on the 360.

The folks who bought Wii sports and Big Brain aren't necessarily the same folks who will buy GH3.

It'll sell well on the Wii - but the 360 version will outsell it.

However - it has nothing to do with the comparable success of either console. I doubt GH3 will shift 360s... although many 360 owners will buy it.

EDIT - I know it's all just a veiled dig at the Wii anyway. :(

It's not at all - I honestly thought it would shift more copies on Wii than that. I don't buy the "mostly appeals to rockers" line either - everyone who plays Guitar Hero enjoys it. It has that same universal appeal that something like WiiSports, SingStar or Buzz! has. Nevermind - I suspect sales will pick up. ^_^

And, on a hardware note, 360 and Wii sales rose this week, so I suspect there was the odd one or two people who got Guitar Hero with their new console. Nothing on a Halo level, though.

You seem to think the Wii version has done badly just because (understandably) it's been outsold by the 360 version.

What do you think about the Wii version outselling the PS2 version out of interest?

..and that was 'Post hoc Rationalisation 101'. Tune in next week where we'll continue to explain why things happen after the event, but never what is going to happen prior to one!

Special Guest ScottCr tells us why last weeks lottery numbers came up as they did.

Are there actually still people that play on a ps2?! :(

That's, like, so last gen

Didn't PS2 PES sell the best in the UK? £25 for the latest PES or £250-£299 + £40 for the latest PES?

There are quite a bit more 360s than Wiis in the US of America so you'd think GH3 would sell more copies for the 360.

That's all it is down to really I would imagine. Didn't GH2 sell very well too on 360?

The reason GH3 sold best on the 360?

Because most game stores recieved at least twice as many copies on the 360 than elsewhere. Gamestop (at least) recieved something like 50 copies for 360, 25 for Wii, 25 for PS2 and as low as 5 on Ps3.

Have read some other stores recieved simular amounts.

I *REALLY* hope Zak & Wiki gets good sales, because it so deserves it.

No.

Because 360 owners only ever play shooting and driving games.

I was gonna say "and it doesn't even have guns or cars" but changed my mind because I thought someone else will...

Yes.

Because that's the only game on the 360 that isn't either shooting or driving.

All the signs point to no currently in both the US and Japan, stock problems in the US, low sales sofar in Japan.

It all depends on what the developer/publisher want from sales, though.

Sales of, say, 100,000 might be enough to turn a nice little profit. The game has racked up 29,000 in the US according to these estimates, which isn't a bad start.

Not every game needs to sell a million copies to be a success.

6,000 x 7 = 42,000 weekly sales? Top of the Japanese charts has been just over 50k recently...

That wouldn't be too bad, but I assume the actual figures will be a lot less...anything around 30,000 would be a good week I think.

And because you can use your old Guitar Hero guitar with it.
