Just listening now chap. To be honest I'm loving Koop's stuff at the minute, it's very uplifting.

I don't know them at all, but I like the one you've linked to. They've certainly got that sixties vibe down. Is Summer Sun a cover version do you know, it sounds awfully familiar.

Not sure fella, found it on their album Waltz For Koop. The first four tracks have that kind of vibe, then it goes down hill to instrumental stuff. Bearing in mind that's only my taste preference - I'm sure some of these cats like the instrumentals, I just think it changes the album mood.

Might have a listen to Take Five now ;)!

I got my brand new Miles Davis box set yesterday. The design is lovely, fitting of any music lover's shelf, the production of it less so. The Amazon customer reviews say it all.

Mine's naturally going back. I will sigh as I say goodbye to it, knowing a thing of such beauty is destined to end up in a skip.

@DC07 - that's a crying shame about that box set - looks like it should be a lovely thing.

I don't listen to much jazz, but being an electric bass player and wanting to broaden my horizons a bit, I've picked up some Weather Report/Jaco Pastorius stuff. My word that man could play.

Since then I've also picked up the SMV album (Stanley Clark, Marcus Miller, Victor Wootten) and that is just epic.

Also started listening to a bit of Soil & "Pimp" Sessions (Japanese 'Death Jazz' apparently) which is quite entertaining - loads of their stuff up on Spotify.

Also Niacin, again because of Billy Sheehan who really is quite a great player. These are an odd lot - a real rock 'fusion' effort and the bass tone is pretty dirty for jazz but again some wonderful playing all round.

Thanks for bumping this larry, I had a couple of Jazz recommendations that I didn't want to inflict on the Soul thread (soulful though they might be in their own way).

Anyway, something new:

15864_b.jpg

The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble - Miles Away

It's another Madlib alias. Some good grooves and noodles though, with a cosmic jazz-funk/fusion slant, as you might expect from the title. No hip-hop!

Stream it on last.fm (it wasn't on Spotify last time I checked).

And something old:

SirEdward.jpg

Sir Edward - The Power of Feeling (Download)

A nice little smooth jazz album from 1973, with the odd touch of funk and a couple of good covers. Lots of info and preview tracks here.

Bit of a bump but couldn't see a better thread to put this in.

Saw Polar Bear last night in Ipswich and they were brilliant. Last saw them a couple of years ago (don't think the third album was out at the time) and Leafcutter John seems much more integated into the live show than before - some really excellent stuff with balloons and (seperately) looping the saxophones etc. Hugely recommend going to see them if they're playing somewhere near you on this tour.

Yeah, I saw Polar Bear last year (before the recent LP had been released) and was seriously impressed with Leafcutter John's role. I remember being left struggling to think of a better musical balloon player and was impressed with the Wiimote action too - without which the show might've been erring a bit on side of a touch quiet and polite.

I'm going to recommend this amazing piece of loveliness for you all.

It's one of those things you can't really dive into - you have to let it go from the start.

Kindly uploaded by someone who doesn't seem to mind holding a sleeve up for 10 minutes...

Yep, Seb Rochford is an amazing drummer. I saw some of the last Acoustic Ladyland (another band he was in along with other members of Polar Bear) shows in London late last year and he completely staggered me, so effortless - they're going in some jazz-grime direction or something this year under a new moniker which will likely be a bit pants.
