Anyone got a film of a decent level 35+ Lone Wolves game on Guardian or Narrows?

Depends what you mean by decent... Do I not have any uploaded from those maps myself?

I know I don't for Narrows because 90% of the time I don't have 'decent' games on that map, but I thought I had a guardian one...

Nope, your LW films are on Epitaph and Construct (which I seem to do okay on, as it goes).

Ah ok, I think I have some saved away somewhere that I considered uploading at some point, i'll have a gander and whack them up if you want. In fact i'm tempted to upgrade to Bungie Pro, but 8 quid seems so expensive... If it was more like 4 i'd be tempted. You don't really 'get' enough to justify that money, IMO.

Where are your films, Krypt? :)

Here's a really nice commentary from Str8 Rippin' player Tsquared on a Guardian Team Doubles game. He gets a perfection medal, which as always is partly because his opponents are pretty bad, but there are a lot of useful tips in there.

I've been busy unfortunately (work sucks) but I'm free today so I'll have a look through some and see what I can upload.

chuck them a lot :( I got a kill last night with a hopeful grenade that I honestly think i wouldn't have thrown usually. it all helps. I saw you bounce a few up into the top room at the yellow lift. I'll try to remeber that, and the same for the shotgun room.

another thing I completely forgotten: in a one on one where youre both rounding a corner, fire, jump, then melee.

Both tactics i discovered very recently. I fucking love throwing a shitload of grenades up to the top of the lift when there's two people fighting it out, they're ALWAYS none the wiser. Easy kill, and if lucky a double.

As for the jumping and meleeing thing, I guess most people are wise to it, but it is a nice tactic, as you see on Narrows it got me out of a very sticky situation. I need to get into using the bumper jumper configuration really, I think it would really improve my game, especially with regards to melee. Jump on the left bumper just feels wrong though.

A decent film, but a shitty gametype. What the hell was Bungie thinking?

I think for Crazy King, you want to avoid meleeing people once you're in the hill. Most of the time meleeing means you're going to lose, have a simultaneous death, or at best drop your shields. I noticed that you almost never used grenades while in the hill.

As soon as I expect someone else to arrive (but maybe before I see them on the motion tracker), I'll speculatively grenade the entrances, hoping to take someone's shields down a bit. Then I'll shoot while backing away, even if it means moving out of the hill for a minute. So obviously I'll also try to pick up a headshot weapon. After five minutes, there's normally a big pile of grenades at every hot spot in a Lone Wolves match, so don't worry about running out.

Also, once I die, if the hill hasn't just moved I'll hang around one of the other two hill locations. The hill moves every 30 seconds, so if you're on the other side of the map and there's 15 seconds left, you're at best going to get a couple of seconds of hill time.

The only other thing is that I noticed your melees at close range sometimes missed. Which button config are you using? If you're using Default, you might find Bumper Jumper to be much better, since you can aim while meleeing.

I'm using Greenthumb, which generally works ok for me. The melees missing are more due to me still being pretty rusty, only really come back to Halo in the last couple of days.

Excessive melee is a habit I'm trying to get out of, but it's not easy - I get a feeling I should be closing in for the kill whereas bullets are generally more effective! Silly really but it's more of a reflex than something I'm actively trying to do.

I did try hanging around the other hill spots a couple of times but the issue was the turret guy - you couldn't really just hang around if he was lurking, it did work once or twice though.

Good advice though on general hill tactics, will bear in mind

Spotted this on bungie.net, and you thought you were good at halo...

That literally got posted two posts ago.

But yeah, it seems the only thing that picks MLG apart from the top players is sniping it seems. In a map without snipers, judging by the videos i've seen, I reckon I may be able to give some MLG players a run for their money, but with snipers, I would get hopelessly owned - my skill with the sniper is absolutely nowhere near approaching that level :(

You kind of wonder what sort of shit they have in their system to give them those reflexes though... GAME FUEL

Does anyone mind having a look at a Lone Wolves video of mine from earlier? I'm a Level 40 in that playlist and got stomped on in pretty much every game I played today (without dropping a rank, oddly). I've uploaded a video from the Pit, which is usually one of my favourite maps, but I came in last place. I may just be punching above my weight at Level 40 as I can't see a lot that I'm doing particularly wrong, and beyond having more time with the power weapons I'm not sure where to improve - any pointers appreciated!

I'd like to think that, but sniping is just the most obvious and clip-worthy thing to show. In terms of player/map awareness, as well as teamwork and tactics I'd imagine they're beyond the standard player by quite a margin.

Has anyone got any links to MLG player hints, or just good player fileshares? Anything else similar to this - Ogre 2 Shows you How to Be the King of Your Hill - would be cool. One thing that I'd never thought about doing before:

Duck down. Throughout the game you’ll notice Ogre 2 retreating while looking towards the ground. This is a basic tip that we like to reiterate because, one, it’s easy to do and, two, it can save your life! Looking towards the ground while turning your back to an opponent makes it harder for them to land a head shot.

I had a few thoughts from watching your game:

- Throw grenades earlier, more speculatively. Splash damage is pretty huge, so you don't have to be that accurate. Better to be quick than precise. Bounce them off walls more often, for example. If you run into someone and you don't have the edge on them, it's worth backing off and dropping a defensive grenade.

- Any competent player will be able to defend the sniper tower position, so it's not worth attacking unless you have an overwhelming advantage (e.g. sniper from green box, BR from high spawn, needler from sniper ramp, bouncing a grenade off the back wall to drop their shields, or sword + overshield up the lift)

- Don't hold forward as you spawn. Sometimes you'll spawn above/below a player, and if they're moving you can crouch to get the drop on them.

- Especially on The Pit, Construct, or Isolation, get yourself a BR or Carbine as your highest priority. The needler is amazing, but only if you're firing at someone who doesn't know it. 1v1 face to face, almost anything beats needler.

- Don't go looking for other players too much. Unless you have sniper, you should expect to get most of your kills by picking off other players as they fight each other.

I'm finding Lone Wolves pretty hard at level 41, but my games go differently-badly from yours. Next time I can work up to playing LW, I'll post a video for comments.

it wasn't all bad, there was a really good little sniper spree in there, three headshots in a row? I'd be saving that if it were me.

good tip about the spawning and not moving straight away. I was about to say you were unlucky to spawn near people a few times. never considered that it could be an advantage.

I saw that looking at the floor trick being used by an MLG guy recently. must try to remember it
