I've only heard 3 Tool albums (Undertow, Lateralus and 10,000 days; still can't believe I haven't heard Aenima) but I could never get on with Undertow (I heard it after Lateralus if that means anything). I am hearing it wrong? Also, 'Lateralus' is my favourite Tool song but I guess I might be the only one...

Also: someone do a Megadeth list that doesn't include anything from Rust in Peace.

personally I think undertow is shit. EXCEPT those 2 songs. Grab them, seriously they are INCREDIBLE songs

Really? Well obviously I know Prison Sex, it is awesome.

Kelthink: Jeeez, get Aenima, seriously. It's twice as good as any of the other single albums.

Listen!:

That's a bit different from my list. <_<

Can I request a list for solo Lou Reed? I've got Transformer, but what else is good? (Although then again I suppose specifying albums you've already heard goes against the idea behind this topic...)

I'll do one, here's a band with a fair few albums now:

Clutch

A Shogun Named Marcus (Transnational Speedway League)

Ship Of Gold (The Elephant Riders)

Profits Of Doom (Blast Tyrant)

Ghost (Blast Tyrant)

Cypress Grove (Blast Tyrant)

Mr. Shiny Cadillacness (From Beale Street To Oblivion)

Pure Rock Fury (Pure Rock Fury)

Open Up The Border (Pure Rock Fury)

10,000 Witnesses (Robot Hive / Exodus)

It's really hard to not be tainted by songs I'm a bit bored of, but are still their best tracks.

Oh and I'm sure Kerraig would disagree, but I think Blast Tyrant is their strongest album, though it's also probably the most 'Pop'y, as it goes. More on Pure Rock Fury deserves the list too, but I wanted to represent them a bit more widely...

I don't care that they've only had four albums, they're my favourite band and everyone with a love for alternative rock or whatever it's classed as should listen:

The National

Fake Empire

Black Slate

Beautiful Head

Abel

Slow Show

About Today

All the Wine

Brainy (Alternate Version)

Mr. November

Lucky You

I've missed off a ton of songs I truly love. A few of them are on their Myspace I think, for anyone who wants a taster.

I'll try Pet Shop Boys, without singles :

- Two Divided By Zero (Please)

- It Couldn't Happen Here (Actually)

- I'm Not Scared (Introspective)

- My October Symphony (Behaviour)

- Young Offender (Very)

- It Always Comes As A Surprise (Bilingual)

- Boy Strange (Nightlife)

- Home (Release)

- The Sodom And Gomorrah Show (Fundamental)

- Miserablism (single b-side to "Was It Worth It?", on Alternative)

Nice, I'm not sure I would've picked Boy Strange though. Plus I'm not too keen on Sodom, either.

NOTHING from Robot Hive! Crikey.

Converge is really fucking hard. I'll work on it and try for something later.

Wu Tang Clan

1. Da Mystery of Chessboxin'

2. Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin Ta Fuck Wit

3. Protect Ya Neck

4. Wu Tang 7th Chamber Pt 2

5. Re-united

6. Heaterz

7. Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)

8. Uzi (Pinky Ring)

9. Iron Flag

10. C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)

Good list.

Here's my attempt at the top 10 "solo" songs by various Clan members (I use parenthesis because a lot of the early solo stuff featured collaborations with other group members in any case):

Wu-Tang Clan (solo)

1. Criminology - Raekwon

2. Wu-Gambinos - Raekwon

3. Ice Cream - Raekwon

4. Daytona 500 - Ghostface Killah

5. Camay - Ghostface Killah

6. Liquid Swords - GZA

7. Shadowboxin' - GZA

8. 4th Chamber - GZA

9. Tical - Method Man

10. Brooklyn Zoo - ODB

I think that the best "solo" songs by Wu-Tang Clan artists are every bit as good and as essential as the group stuff. It's a shame that they're maybe overlooked out with the hardcore hip-hop heads. They've certainly not received the same level of crossover success, nor have they impacted popular culture as much as the group albums have. This is a shame because, like I say, much of it is as good and, in my opinion, often better than the group stuff.

On this list, I've focused entirely on the first generation of solo albums because they're the ones that stick closest to the group's original blueprint. Later Ghostface music in particular has become its very own separate entity. It's not "Wu-Tang solo music" but "solo music, period," which would be worth compiling into a separate top ten list of its own. But for people wishing to broaden their understanding and appreciation of Wu-Tang music, then these are the solo tracks to check out. Although produced entirely by the group's mastermind the RZA, each song in this list presents very distinct variations of his style. From the lush cinematic atmospherics in the Raekwon tracks, through the roughed-up soul of Ghostface and into the abrasive distortion behind the GZA tracks, RZA ran the whole gamut of superior hip-hop production on much of the early solo releases. And the familiar off-kilter kung-fu sillyness of the group albums showed up again in various Method Man and ODB songs.

You just copied the tracklisting from the 'best of'! Plus 'Everything's Ruined', though. I haven't heard much FNM but surely there's more to the albums?

And neither of you included 'Fall on Me' or 'The One I Love' which makes me sad

Well like I said it was more a list for people who think they know what they're about and the chances are they'd have heard those two. Pre Warners they were a very different band - don't get me wrong, if it was to be a personal top 10 I'm no snob about the later stuff (well, as far as Up at any rate - Chorus and the Ring aside, I cannot listen to them now).

Say which half. I'm not entirely sure any of those would be in my first 10 but at least 3 greedy bastards posted first.

They're still great though.

Okay...

Black Star - Hate the chorus.

You and Whose Army - Okay, but doesn't hit the heights it should, so just sounds like a missed oppurtunity every time I listen.

Killer Cars - Nice pop song, but nowhere near their best.

All I Need - One of the worst songs they've ever done, dreadful lyrics and an awful chorus. The clash of instruments at the end saves it from complete crapness.

Lozenge of Love - Grates to me.

The rest I love, but I'd never recommend House of Cards due to the huge split it brings (many find it very dull).

Incredibly over-the-top, but you asked. All imho obv m8 soz ok bi.

I wanted to keep it pre-1986 given how many people seem to hate them around here. Makes me sad. But they've sucked for quite a few years now.

REM were brilliant. The IRS REM is so different to the Warner REM though. Murmurs is a classic, I could listen to the album all day long. Sitting Still and Pilgrimage are just
