Saturday Night Grifball

Well, myself, Atreyu and Al are planning on playing some of the matchmaking tonight. I believe it's 4v4, so if we get more than that then we can either play together or just go into matchmaking in groups, roving the Grifball pitches in teams all looking for victory. It'll be like a big footy tournament at Hackney Marshes, only with much, much more killing.

All's fair in love and Grifball.

Very cool. Got a link for that, out of interest?

That is tremendous news. In which case I suggest that in addition to the usual roles and plays that are fast becoming part of the rich Grifball tradition we employ a designated spawnkiller. If last night is anything to go by, every so often it'll really freak people out.

I'm interested but I won't be on until around 11pm/midnight if any of you are still around then.

Weekly update:

We’re ramping up the DoubleXP weekends in March and continuing that trend in April and pending the success of Grifball and SWAT, it’s a safe bet that both of those gametypes will see returns.

I do wonder if you're looking at this the right way, Chaz. What's the cost of this map pack - £5? Certainly less than £10. In the real world you wouldn't hesitate to spend such a small sum to have an evening's fun with your mates (just one evening makes the point).

Fair enough, I guess, when you didn't know whether the cost would be worth it - ie, when the payoff was unclear - but the evidence now pretty flagrantly suggests otherwise.

I dislike the "only five pounds etc" argument. It makes sense in paper, but when you think about it it's like going to a club and being told it's free drinks later on in the night or something. What would you do, spend money on booze or wait until the free period and then get absolutely hammered? I know what i'd do.

A flawed analogy, yes, but still. If this had happened, say, a month or two ago, I almost certainly would have snapped up the DLC - 5 pounds is nothing to me. Now i'm not going to just on principle, because I know they're free in a matter of weeks, perhaps less. Perhaps if I had points in my account i'd feel differently, in fact i'd almost certainly crumble and pay the price. As it stands, I have 200MP and no intention of heading into town to get another points card yet, and attempts to pick up cheap points cards online have been in vain (see the Tescos thread in the bargain folder if you care why).

Anyway, to avoid such a situation in future, i'l definitely be picking the new map pack straight up - I already like the look of Ghost Town, and if rumours are to be believed, one of the other maps may be a remake of a popular H1 or H2 map, which would certainly appeal to me. Thing is with the Heroic DLC is that I didn't really like the look of any of them, bar Standoff a bit I guess, like you said, the payoff was unclear.

To run with your example, if my mates were all going to be there early then that's when I'd turn up. I'd much rather have a quiet drink with them (it's not like free drinks are the norm) - and I'd usually to expect to do my share of paying - than hang around to the end when everyone is just intent on getting shitfaced.

But we've now probably flogged that example further than we should have.

This is officially my favourite gametype ever. We must have just played 30 games straight!

God, I really hope they bring this playlist back at some point.
