Saturday Night Grifball

Grifball, created by Burnie from Rooster Teeth, is a violent strategic Halo sport. It's everyone's new favourite custom game.

It's set on an emptyish Foundry (so you need to buy the Heroic map pack), and is a neutral bomb variant in a rectangular arena. The rules are:

- Two teams of 3 or 4 on each side, next to bomb spot

- All players have Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords

- Bomb starts in the centre

- Bomb carrier gets 150% speed, 300% overshield, and turns orange (like Grif from Red vs Blue)

- Instant arm, 1 second fuse

- Respawns: at your own bomb spot, every 3 seconds

- Five rounds, score once to win, no time limit

It sounds stupid, but it's really very fun. There's some strategic skill involved in getting your bomb carrier safely through the defensive line, and lots of play tactics are possible. See the Red vs Blue forums for more details on the game.

Unfortunately, you really do need at least 6 players for Grifball to work, ideally 8. It's not (yet) in matchmaking, so anyone who wants to play has to set up a custom game. That's what this thread is for!

Right, Saturday 29th (today) at 8:30pm then. Anyone who shows up before then is welcome to some custom games of Combo on Tron. We might also have a debut test of Squadball if no-one objects.

Playing:

alisdair

MalevolentPanda

Into the Preach

TommyG

Possibly:

Little Joe (got the maps yet?)

wretcherd (friend request me/confirm please?)

We need a minimum of 6, and 8 would be best. Please post if you can make it!

Saturday the 5th at 8:30pm, then. Maybe Xbox Live will be working by then!

Post here if you want a game. If you're not on my friends list and you're going to play, please friend request me: Dr Alisdair

Oh well, insufficient dudes I guess. If anyone wants to organise some Grifball, I'll probably play a couple of games.

5 is okay with me. I'll try to rope in some other guys, I'd say we need 6 at least to give it a fair go.

there's a couple of maps and games I'd like to give a go to aswell if we get the chance. there's a foundry map from the mlg guys that looks good.

see you then

I've been delayed slightly, but I'll be on soon.

As this seems to be the closest thing we have to a dedicated Grifball thread, this seems as good a place to observe that a number of teams I played against last night seemed to employ someone in a dedicated 'spawnkilling' role. It's not remotely noble and it's certainly not pretty, but there were times when it did seem very effective.

Evil! I wonder how you'd prevent that?

Could you put the spawn points a few feet up in the air? then you'd land on the buggers with your hammer! :(
