Guru's write up of Rise of Queensdale has had me lusting after that game ever since. English versions have now been released on Amazon.co.uk. I've got one on the way and I'm very excited.

Excellent news.  Can't wait to hear other people's impressions.

I'm quite excited – for the first time in literally years, I have a weekend to myself which happens to coincide with a meeting of Beyond Monopoly in York. Really looking forward to it.

Well, I had a lovely time - really enjoyed it. Very friendly and inviting bunch of people.

Started off being invited into a game of Castles of Burgundy (I lost by a mile), then played Twilight Struggle with a very patient and helpful chap (I lost, but didn’t do as badly as I expected, given that I’m rubbish at Twilight Struggle). After that got invited into a game of Auztralia,  which was good but ran quite long so I ended up missing the last bus back to the park and ride. Had a splendid day.

Weirdly I played Auztralia today as well - loved it, the initial rail building/resource gathering flew past and before you had time to settle the old ones were spawning all over the place and it shifted to a  push your luck, combat focused game - came 3rd of 4 but would love to play again as I can already see ways I could have improved my game.

So War for the Ring turned up yesterday; last week I got slightly thrown out of the house so in an act of petty spite decided to get the best board game I could find in Yodobashi Camera, which turned out to be Viticulture. What with Fire in the Lake turning up not so long ago, I can now look forward to having even MORE games to look at!

I even managed to get a game to the table the other week - 7th Continent. Cleared the first island with a lot more cards than I thought I would have; though also playing as Frankenstein I have a companion who I can't tell is going to be more of a help or a hindrance whenever I get round to continuing...

I saw you then! Sorry I didn’t read this before- would have said hello proper (you were the person that said they enjoyed themselves and would return yes?) and given you a lift back to your car. I was late due to bed assembly, played Le Havre and some others I don’t even remember I was so tired. I did ask Jim if Auztralia had a loan mechanism though!

Oh, I’ll definitely be back as often as I can make it. I was sat opposite Jim for Auztralia, and playing Twilight Struggle next to your Le Havre. I’m afraid I didn’t get the guy’s name I was playing TS with, but he was very helpful. I didn’t really mind missing the bus, as I didn’t want to duck out of a game part way through and spoil it for everyone else. Though I was a bit worried that the car park would be locked.

Were you the chap carrying Lords of Xidit when you left?

Appear to have fucked up my first math trade on BGG and seem to be about to receive a German copy of Arkham Horror card game. I was sure I hadn't checked the box to allow this scenario on the want list thingy and looking at it now I can't see how that happened.

I assume the olwlg thing can't be wrong so I must have made a mistake myself somewhere, just have no idea where.

Finished Template of Elemental Evil campaign with my son yesterday - he really loves it and I find it great fun too.  The system is easy peasy but the ugprades and skills are advanced enough to keep it interesting.  Thing I'll pick up Tomb of Annihiliation next.

Yay, War for the Ring arrived AND Rise of the Empire for Star Wars Rebellion from my mum.

My daughter thought all her Christmases had come at once with all the counters she got to punch.

Just reading the Wikipedia entry for risk and it claims (citation needed!) That risk inspired Catan.

Does anybody know of *any* evidence that risk inspired Catan?

I assume it's more like that Catan was an evolution of pre-existing games (and their strength/flaws),rather than "directly inspired by"

Had a very successful clearout recently so have rewarded myself with more games!

Azul and Camel up (2nd edition) have already seen play and are definite keepers, beautiful productions both!

Battleline has a new medieval version coming from GMT games you order pre order here https://www.gmtgames.com/p-741-battle-line-medieval-themed-edition.aspx

Cat lady and Condottiere are both very well priced on Zatu games. Cat lady looks like it'll be a hit with my group in the same way sushi go was, simple card set collection with a fun theme.

Games!

I like the look of that medieval Battleline. Unfortunately I am so embedded in the doghouse right now I don't even want to risk trying to secretly buy it.

Anyone here got any experience of playing in Pandemic: Survival competitions? Daughter and I might try this at the Expo this year (she wants a change from 7 Wonders Duel!) but we're quite new to Pandemic tbh having acquired it at last year's Expo - will we just get completely creamed? Do we need to have experience of anything other than the base game?

So anyone from here heading along to Airecon at the start of March? I’m going for the sat/sun and it would be nice to meet up for a game with some folk.

I'll be there! I'm helping out on the playtest stand most days, and trying to get interest in another game of mine (a small card game) which I hope to have promotional copies printed by and freebies to entice people with.

How about a giant forum game of Sidereal Confluence one evening (I know I've been pushing this game a lot, but it really benefits from loads of people)?

It's a decent game with terrible art, components and theme. The core mechanics need to be lifted by a decent gaming publisher and put into a more relatable theme and it could be a stunning game. As it is.... "anyone got three blues for a space dustbin?"
