Halo 3 playlist updates

They've always said that they have no intention of making the legendary DLC free.

Though they have lowered the price (and removed the free 6 months of Bungie Pro as a consequence).

Gah. Second accounts wind me up so much that it might just have to be custom games from now on.

They might well never be free. There's always going to be a split in matchmaking anyway because of the hard drive not being universal. If they really are going to tie DLC to individual tags that would be wicked. Still not seen anything about that though, I did read the last few Bungie updates and saw no mention. Does anyone remember where they saw it? If they don't go free then I hope as many playlists as possible require them and they leave those without them ghettoised in a couple of lists so those who paid get to use them lots.

Also, the full 750 extra achievements are up on Xbox.com so that's definitely happening. I wonder how the rules have changed, and whether other games are allowed to do the same thing.

No-one else has, have they?

true (well R6 Vegas did, i think). it just seems like a massive waste. surely the amount of people buying them will slow to where they just wont make any more money, really..

then they might as well to attract fresh players.

A lot of people apparently moaned that the last map pack was made free after a while, despite that being the system that Bungie have used for the last tthree years. So I can't see them being free for a long, long time. If ever.

that's depressing. those maps are pretty much in limbo, you can mess about in unranked games (fun, no doubt) but you can't play them in ranked. it's madness - to me.

Previously they've always said that the maps will become free and given an approximate date for that when they've first gone on sale. This was the first time they've said they don't plan to do that. I agree that they will remain paid for. Same with the Mythic maps, I suspect.

I think Vegas only did because the PS3 version included the DLC and MS's T&Cs say that you can't charge for something on Live which is free on other platforms.

Well, you can play them in ranked if every person in the lobby happens to have the map pack, but that's obviously a slim chance. I don't know whether these achievement points were always planned or if sales of the Legendary Map Pack have been low or whatever, but I'm sure having this new push will encourage more people to buy it. How many, I don't know.

Didn't Bungie place self-imposed restrictions about not restricting ranked play to map pack owners? I'm sure I heard that after they split the Halo 2 community more than expected.

As far as I am aware (and as someone else said) the map packs are part of ranked but only if all players have them.

That's definitely true, what's in question is how many of the playlists Bungie will be willing to lock out for those who haven't bought the maps, paticularly once the mythic maps exist too. Obviously to give value to those who stumped up it should be as many as possible, but that will antagonise those unwilling to pay.

There have been ranked playlists which required the new maps ('Swat' off the top of my head) and I wouldn't be suprised if that happened again. Its a bit of a conundrum for Bungie because they have 3 crowds to appease (no-maps, some maps, all maps) and probably not enough players to go round.

I'd love for them to say that Team Slayer requires all maps, but that would never ever happen.

As for the maps showing up in normal games - it happens suprisingly often for us. Generally, the higher the level you are, the more commited the player, the more likely they'll have the paid maps.

I think they are weighted higher too.
