Public holiday here yesterday, so Son #2 and I had another game of Necromunda.

Turn out Van Saar are not great at defending in Sabotage.

How old is son #2? I’m desperate to play a bit of Necromunda but worry the very crunchy rules might be a bit much for my 9 year old (and myself, if I’m honest!).

Also, where did you get that terrain? Looks good!

He's 12, but I've been playing various games with him and his slightly older brother for years. You often have to break down rules to make them more basic for them at a younger age. We used to play Warmachine because of the low model count and simple rules. Necromunda is pretty straightfoward, and while there are a tonne of special rules, they're repad over the 12 factions or so, so two crews will only have a handful between them.

And the scenery is mostly Mantic Deadzone terrain. The walkways are TTCombat, and the airvents and stuff I have no idea. I bought them off a guy at my club.

Nice, will check it out. I have the terrain that comes with Hive War but it’s hardly anything and certainly not to the level required to properly play. I also have Into the Dark and the Kill Team starter set, so I could use terrain from those if I ever get round to building it…!

Who did the Van Saar defend against? Tell us (well, me) more!

Orlocks. The problem is the defender starts off with half of their gang off the table and their activations and reinforcement relies upon them spotting the attackers sneaking in towards a target in the middle. Given the Van Saar are the most expensive gang they only had three gingers on the table to start with.

But the sbeaking around was fun. I ended up making some unnecessary shot to try and start the alert, but if this comes up in a proper campaign game and van saar are defending its going to be a struggle.

Three gingers?!?

You need to show me your painted gangers!

I need to finish painting my Orlock, Goliaths and Ironhead Prospectors. I also need to build my Van Saar gang, finish building my Palanite Enforcers, Escher and Delaque and then finish painting all of them!

Just bought Cursed City. Not sure about the game but goddamn, those models 🫠

They are beautiful models, but by fuck are some of them bastards to put together. I refused a commission to do some because of an issue I had with a previous one - whereby I got so frustrated I took the clippers to it and chucked it out the window.

They are brilliant models, but I'm still getting through them after nearly two years. You're going to be very busy.

No massive issues putting them together here, but I did have to basically remove some of the guide posts to get stuff flush.

Trimming the pegs down is a default thing I do now. They are routinely too long on most models.

The vampires on the arches were the most problematic models in Cursed City for me.

Anyone else catch the live stream? It was 2pm for me, which was nice sonciseing what usually happens with aus realises.

Anyhow, yep, 10th Ed, primaris termis. Noice. Also free rules, although well see how free. Looks like the "optional" rules will be locked behind codex purchases, but that will be revealed.

The rules changes mean nothing to to me,  ut my club players are excited. Apparently it looks to fix a lot of issues 9th had.

Anyhow, I'm on this edition. I'll be painting up some Carcharadons ans running them as.... ooh, raven guard I think. Although there are arguments fir running them as space wolves or blood angels. Well see.

Lion El’Johnson? What a terrible name

That is nothing.

On top of it "Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka" is a bastardisation of 'Margaret Thatcher.

Thanks for sharing. The Lion as a giant self hating closeted gay catholic makes a lot of sense.

Also the Dark Angels chapter monastery is called The Rock which was apparently a famous gay nightclub in Nottingham so that scans.

I think that's a myth. The famous club in Nottingham is Rock City, which has been going since 1980 and is an absolutely legendary music venue and rock club. I think the name comes from that, and then someone put about the rumour that it was/is a gay club because they wanted to insult the Dark Angels chapter, and they thought that being named after a gay club was an insult. They also didn't realise that the actual inspiration for their primarch was right there.

I double-checked, and found an article about all the LGBT friendly bars in Nottingham's history, and there's no mention of anything called The Rock. It was quite an interesting read about an aspect of this city where I spent a lot of time growing up that I was completely unaware of. There was a gay pub called The Flying Horse on Market Square that was apparently world-renowned. Unfortunately it was sometimes known locally as "the pansy's parlour." Different times, I guess. At least we know that the founders of Games Workshop weren't sniggering at homosexuality when they named that part of the lore.

Man the cursed city models are incredible, easy to put together and even easier to break. So many of them are extremely spindly, I’ve had hands, legs and swords break just trying to push them together using the push fit. I’ve now made everything except the zombies and skeletons. I can see painting some of them - Jelsen Darrock for example - are going to be fiddly to paint.

Look good, though :D
