I could have told you that straight away from the image, but for some reason I haven't looked at this part of the forum all weekend, sorry. Dark Eldar are very much my bag.

I've been painting something pretty cool over the last couple of weeks.

I didn't do the conversion/sculpting work.  I think the guy who did might actually be a genius.

I’m redoubling my efforts to clear my frankly ridiculous backlog of accumulated Stormcast. I nearly considered just selling them partially painted, but once I started these three a couple of nights ago I found myself having a reasonably relaxing time, as they’re quite simple sculpts really.

I also finally finished the first mini I bought when I started painting again (well, one of three that came with Mortal Realms mag).

Those green stuff conversions and sculpting are fucking nuts. Like legitimately bonkers.

You should see it in the hand. It's actually mad to me to look at pictures of the unpainted mini and realise that parts I thought were just part of the original GW sculpt are actually bits that the guy made out of green stuff. Things like the knee-pads, the ropes and tassels and the detailing on the upper leg armour.

It puts the pressure on you as a painter, I can tell you. If you cock it up, there's not a second copy of the miniature you can work on instead. I don't even know if you can strip paint off green stuff.

Yeah, that's really cool. What blows my mind even more though is that (I think) every mini used to be hand sculpted in greenstuff, back in the metal mini days.

Some still are.

My favourite dwarf miniatures come from Scibor. https://www.sciborminiatures.com/

Check out their wonderfully characterful miners.

They still sculpt like this, you can see it in some of their photos. And the detail they achieve is just as good as GW stuff. It boggles my mind how anyone can do it.

Getting there with this Isengard army.

Although it has reminded me why I hate doing an entire army in one go. I'm now working myself through 70+ bases in one go.

Also, from this project and the three Necromunda gangs I've just gone through I've learned that contrast paints rubs off really easily. Deinetaly something to keep in mind.

By contrast all I've done this year is paint 3 Plague Marines that I started last year 😆.

I've had a lot on and nowhere proper to paint until about a month ago though. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

And I haven't painted anything, do you're winning there.

Comparison is the thief of joy. You do you, babe. All that kind of thing.

Guardian of Souls done:

That mini is stupidly delicate.

I broke its sword arm off and had to use a chopped off pin and superglue to splint it from behind.

You cannot see the pin easily, which is good, but you can still see where it broke.

Yeah, I had an absolute nightmare with that sword arm too:

I’ve been having a few similar issues with a few of my models, notably my kill team kroot leader whose arm snapped off, and three of my house Cawdor gangers from necromunda. I tried reattaching it a few times with the citadel plastic glue but it’s not working and basically just melting the already thin joint. Would it be better to switch to super glue for repairing that?
